32 oz. growler filled a few days ago poured into a NB snifter.
Very deep dark brown and opaque with minimal head on the pour.
Lots of deep, dark, rich molasses and ABV in the nose early. Lots of sticky sugar in the glass. Rich caramels emerge as it warms. A bit of licorice. The rum pushes its way forward in the nose and insists on being recognized, along with wood notes from the barrels in the background.
Deep, rich, dark dried fruit mixed with oak wood notes coat the tongue. Hints of chocolate in the finish. Very boozy, like a Thunderhead cocktail with Myers 151 floated on top. Big notes of black licorice after the glass warms up. Traces of dried herbal hops in the finish.
Need to let this one warm up considerably to smooth out the ABV. Even at only 9%, it smells and tastes like a booze bomb. If someone wants to experience the new, raw effect of exposing a barleywine to barrels, this is the beer to taste. This was available on tap - in a perfect world, this beer is allowed to age for a couple of years to temper the rum/ABV and let all the components meld and mellow. Drinking this now? Get a growler and some cigars and spread it around.

On tap at the Basin Pub in Bushnell's Basin, NY.
Pours a nearly opaque copper color, with a small quarter inch head, and a little bit of lacing. Looks inviting.
Smells like wood/oak, rum, caramel, toffee, and a slight bit o' booze.
Tastes just about the same. The rum barrel character is nice and upfront, not hiding at all. There's some warming alcohol, vanilla, oak, coconut, toffee, caramel, and burnt brown sugar. Quite nice.
This one is medium bodied, a bit syrupy, but not too sweetly sticky, with a lower amount of carbonation.
I haven't had regular Three Sheets, but this one is still really nice.

Had this one at Hollingshead, in Orange. Had to choose between this one and DFH 120 minute.
This beer was great. The vanilla and oak from the rum barrels really came through, along with all the malty goodness. Boozy upfront, and very dry with brown sugar and caramel on the back end. Small amount of head, that didn't last long. The 9% abv was perfect, not too much. Overall, I would say I am a fan of this beer, and would encourage it's consumption.

On-tap at Oakquinox
Pours amber in color with an off-white head. A really nice rum aroma to this. Tons of wood and vanilla followed by a healthy dose of brown sugar, caramel, and toffee. A hint of alcohol on the finish. The flavor is full of sweet rum and sugar flavors with a light spice and a light fruitiness. Moderate wood flavor and plenty of vanilla. Maybe a little bit oxidized and a little bit of heat.

On tap at Old Grove. This was aged exclusively in Three Sheets Rum barrels. I heard it was in the barrels for 9 months
A: Reddish brown with a finger of beige froth.
S: Rich toffee, bread, caramel, and brown sugar accompany earth and grapefruit. Rum is pronounced and I get light vanilla and big oak. Date, prune, apple, and alcohol are evident. The nose is stunning when it warms (it was served very cold). The rum really shines.
T: Sweet toffee with notes of date and prune. Candied sugar meets a big alcohol kick. This has a pronounced earthy hop profile that lends an upper moderate bitterness. Rum is pervasive and unmistakable. The bitterness is aggressive and the booze is palate numbingly hot, but the flavors are excellent.
M: Upper medium body with medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is sticky with a lot of warming.
Overall: Very good but very boozy. If this were to mellow out it would be amazing. I'd guess this picked up a bit of ABV from the barrel.
