Ballast Point Victory at Cereal
Poured from a growler purchased at the homebrew shop a few days after Victory at Sea Day. Poured into a tulip.
Deep black, thick as oil. No light getting through, not much carbonation left. A thin layer of sandy tan bubbles rises from the depths and fades within seconds.
Alcohol, coffee, chocolate, sweet cereal, vanilla. A lot going on here, but it's good.
The flavor is better. Captain Crunh is evident throughout -- sweet, bready. Lactose adds even more sweetness. Coffee is still huge, blending with toast and cocoa and French vanilla. The best breakfast ever.
Full body, like a down comforter. Soft, silky. Very low carbonation, a light tingle. Great creaminess -- it has the Captain Crunch film that coats your tongue.
Tastiest when aspirated through the teeth. Really brings out the cereal flavors. They just have added this to secondary. Tons of cereal sweetness that really works with the usual Victory at Sea flavors.

Dry hopped with Captain Crunch and lactose added.
I loved this at Victory at Sea day so I was happy to see it again. Interesting that the first review of the beer didn't mention Captain Crunch. That's kind of the point of the beer.
Black. Spot on grainy Captain Crunch nose with a bit of lactose along with vanilla and cocoa. Very sweet. Delicious Captain Crunch up front in the flavor with chocolate and lactose. A bit of a chalky chocolate grainy Captain Crunch finish.
A very cool beer. I liked the draft version at Victory at Sea day more, for whatever reason. This cask version was almost cloying but still enjoyable. Recommended in small amounts, though I felt like I could drink a pint of the draft version I tried.

On cask at the BevMo Holiday Beerfest held at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and lactose sugar. Taste is much the same with a distinct flavor of chocolate syrup on the finish. There is a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with some great flavors that make it a treat to drink.
