Awesome service. Not to much of a scenery, but who cares when you serve good beer.

Much smaller than their tasting room and kitchen, but their knowledge and ability to answer and share what you are tasting. One of my favorite places by far!!

I was lucky enough to be in San Diego the week of 11/11 - 11/16/2014 (craft beer week) and decided to check out Ballast Point Brewery and tasting room. They did not disappoint and I had a great time. Food was also very good with local fares such as yellow tail fish taco's. The best of course for me was the beer... I loved their Barrel Aged Victory at Seas, they had 2 different versions, one was oak barrel and the other brandy barrel.. both excellent. The brewery was very clean, fun, lively and you could tell a good crowd of regulars and visitors such as myself. For take home, there is a place next door with great craft beer selection called Bottlecraft, highly recommend also.

Ballast Point puts out some of the best beers I have tried in each style. Even their average beers are great across the board.

Visited the Brewery today and I must say that it was a very nice day had!

My buddy and I first started off with some samplers before the tour began. We drank some rocktoberfest, sexstant, sculpin and piper down... all great beers. I have to say that sculpin is one fine IPA... however I'm a big big fan of dorado.

The atmosphere was pretty cool and the only reason why I give it 5 stars is for the SpeakEasy they have otherwise it would have been 4stars as I kind of expected more "eye candy" on the walls. Local Brewery needs some more local flare! The one thing that sticks out while you visit ballast point is the laid back attitude(unlike some north county folk) Everyone at the brewery was awesome! Shout out to Kaaren, Amber, Yuseff and Jack!

The tour started and there was about 7-9 of us checking out the Brewery. It was a great atmosphere there with Yuseff and Jack. I was blown away with the great delivery and awesome amount of information from Yuseff. That guy really puts on a great tour! Yuseff and Jack didn't shy away from any questions and were really giving the "dirt" of what we can expect from Ballast Point coming soon and into the future! Most of us know about beer and the process to brew such awesomeness... but the one thing that is interesting for us out west especially is Distilling of Spirits... We don't get to tour as easily the big time distillers like Jack Daniels for instance like people on the east coast. So to see this and the process it takes was pretty cool! One thing is for certain, Yuseff takes great pride in making very "tasty" Spirits. The art of making a good cocktail is making its was back from the prohibition and speak easy days. I saw Ballast Point really becoming a top notch Distiller in the near future during the tour today. Gin, Rum and Whiskey is what you can expect from Ballast Point Spirits.

All in all the trip to the brewery today was a blast and anybody in San Diego that is waiting to go... Get to the Point!

Upon walking in I received an exuberant and friendly greeting, which was an excellent start. The customer service continued to wow me even as another woman came in to help serve pints and tasters. The beer is exceptional (especially the Black Marlin Porter and Sea Monster Stout), and the prices on the memorabilia are reasonable, especially for some of the coolest brewery shirts I have ever seen. My girlfriend and I traveled here from Texas to do a tour of San Diego breweries and I have to say that for overall taste, quality, and experience, the Ballast Point at Old Grove was top notch. I'm definitely going back to grab some amazing brew to take back home, where, sadly, Ballast Point beers are non-existent. I can't wait until more people find out about them and they can eventually expand to the size of Stone Brewing Company...hopefully, even bigger.

Visited the Home Brew Mart on 9/3 during a trip to SD. Was surprised to find a homebrew shop AND a brewery within the same walls. Pretty cool. I browsed through the shop and was impressed with the specialty grain setup, but I was really there for the beer.

The tasting section was small yet acquainting. The locals were friendly, the service was impeccable, and the beers were darn tasty! Having tried very little of BP's beers before I was quite pleased to see all their flagship offerings and large number of one-offs.

I didn't buy anything homebrew related except for some spent grain doggy treats. Besides that, after a half dozen tasters which my wife paid for, 4 bombers cost only $20. A bargain in my opinion.

An excellent setup. I really wish someone out on the East Coast did something similar yet oh so good as BP does it.

At the Scripps Ranch location I didn't have a whole Lotta time and wish I could have drank and talked more with the Bartender there she was awsome had a nice deal where you get 3 taster glasses full for 5 bucks not bad at all.

You can get a growler filled of any of their regular Releases. Knowledgeable staff who told me about the experimental Beers that had been made by the staff.

All around laid back atmosphere and chill place would definitely visit again.

Black Marlin Porter made my day! Ballast Point has great brewery atmosphere with bustling tasting room and 7 regular, 8 limited, and 6 research beers on tap! Service is excellent. Grab a street taco on the patio.

This is a review for the Home Brew Mart location....

You would never really know this is a brewery without actually going in and seeing all the brew house equipment out back.
When out in CA visiting my brother, we make it a must to stop in here for our home brewing supplies. They have an excellent selection of grains and yeast. After the remodel and expansion, this location only got better.
The staff here is more than helpful and very knowledgable with home brewing and obviously their own beers.
They have a small bar with taps that feed directly from the holding tanks. They sell all of their beers from the cooler and will fill growlers here.

Cheers!

This review is for Old Grove Scripps!

A - Small rectangular operation. Usually two tenders, knowledgeable, cool, and social. Cool, social people stacked into a a small place, some can be into only there group of people that don't want to talk much but thats only 50% of the people. Cool tables, cool fish floatin about, cool glass area of BP merch. Good HD tv with usually sports flowin', good overall place.

Q - Beer is great here, everything is really fresh and done right... you get the freshness of a brewery right to your face. They usually have 3 special editions of there styles or a new style not released in bottle form. Costco SD Pretzels are good too!

S - Fast, efficient, and know what there in for. Don't doubt they will handle business and have a great time too! Great for a medium of both fun and business. Good pretzels but keep them flowin' please, thanks.

S - Great, all of the regs with usually 3 specialty brews on tap, some time some super octane special stuff in store.

F - No food sorry.

V - Good place for the reg brews, other specialty brews get a little pricey here and there, but worth it if you like the beer style. They need more Dorado DIPA though. Pints served here... not lame taster only status like HBM BP.

My journey to its production facility and tasting room was truly well met. Starting the morning off right, I stayed with the darker samples ranging from the Sextant, Sea Monster, to the Black Steamboat. This was followed by a cask edition of the Black Marlin Porter with vanilla bean, cocoa nibs, and hints of tart cherries side by side with the regularly made Black Marlin. Both were excellent with the cask tasting a bit like dessert. The last sample was the Schooner dry hopped ale which is what I ultimately took home in a growler. All in all, the samples that I had here were all amazing, especially for darker beer lovers.

That isn’t to say, though, that their abilities don’t extend the full range of styles popularly found in most West Coast Breweries. With both year round and seasonal beers available, any beer drinker would be hard pressed not to find something that appealed to their tastes directly.

Further pertaining to the actual site, the ambiance was truly appropriate with production facilities visible behind the bar. Fellow consumers and bartenders alike made this place special after, of course, the beer. Everyone was passionate and well versed regarding the beer and made the experience fun and enjoyable. I can't wait to go back.

Unfortunately I didn't get to do a tour, but I did visit Ballast Point's tap room here. It was probably the wrong time of day (afternoon) but it seemed more vacant than I expected. The servers seemed more knowledgeable than others I have talked to in other breweries and the Ballast Point quality was definitely there... I just wished I had a chance to try some of their off seasonal offerings. Definitely worth a visit to a beer tourist, just make sure to not forget to take a tour like I did.

I absolutely love this place and regret not being able to go for the past few months. The tasting room in Scripps Ranch isn't huge, but it's big enough to comfortably hold a good amount of people. There aren't any chairs and only a few tables, but I think that they make do with the space they have and it never feels uncomfortable there. The beer selection is usually solid and it seems like every time I'm there, they have something new on tap that is worth a try. They always have the usuals (Big Eye, Black Marlin, Wahoo Wheat, etc.) but it's the specials that make this place worth a visit. I've seen Victory at Sea on a random day in the summer, so you never really know what to expect there.

Biggest bang for the buck of any brewery visit, ever. Thank God I don't live close to this place or I would have a serious problem. The samplers are the biggest value in the history of samplers. It also helps that I loved their Sculpin and Black Marlin beers.

If the gourmet grilled cheese sandwich guys are there when you visit, don't pass them by either!

Review of the India Street (Little Italy) Tasting Room & Kitchen: outstanding, friendly staff, service, and food paired with BP stalwarts as well as "R&D" limited trial brews on draught. Great hangout, and a stone's throw from Bottlecraft Tasting Room & Shop. Good times!

Brewery was very clean and had outdoor and some indoor seating along with a long bar. Prices were decent for samples. I did not count the amount of taps but there were at least 15 different beers. The bartenders today were training but the brewer was helping them which made for some great conversation about the beers that are not sent to me in New York. Beers were all fresh as hell and my girlfriend and I were very impressed with this place!

In addition to Alesmith, I include Ballast Point as my "home brewery." I live a few miles from there, and am in an average of once a week...usually on Thursdays for their specials. This is for the "Old Grove" location.

A - The first thing you see when walking in is their display case. They have items for sale, and also their 2010 World Beer Cup trophy displayed for small brewpub of the year. To the right, there's some tables you can stand at, and some counters along the walls you can put your beer on. The cash register and beer cooler for bottles is on the left.
If I don't know anyone there, it doesn't take long to strike up conversation with someone and have a good time.

Q - BP always has good beers on tap. They always have their standard 5, and then they rotate their bottom 4 specials.

S - Amber, the main bartender, is awesome. We talk all the time, and she always has a smile on her face, mostly because she's talking crap and making you laugh too. This past weekend, I had friends from out of town, and she took us personally into the back and gave us a mini tour of everything. How cool is that?

S - Flight of the 5 basic beer tasters for $4, I think, and a flight of the special 4 costs $5. Pints of the good stuff are usually $5. Growler fills are a bit pricey, but pint and tasters are good.

F - The pretzels are tasty, but that's all this place has

Overall, I love coming here. I meet new people all the time and enjoy their beer.

Went here while on vacation around 5:30 on a Friday night. Was a little afraid that it would be empty since its in a very industrial area, but there were 40 or so people having a good time. Fun bar style vibe with some people enjoying pints after work and others starting their night off. One food truck was outside, they also had chips & salsa for sale.

I had a lot of 4oz samples that were cheaper when you bought 3 at a time ($2 as opposed to $3) as I recall. About 20 or so beers on tap with a large amount that seemed experimental, limited or seasonal. Took home several bottles I haven't been able to find in stores in Los Angeles. Will definitely be back here!

Made a pilgrimage here on a recent trip to SD for baseball and beer. Ballast Point is at the point where they have simply run out of space to store all the Sculpin they have brewed until the trucks can take it away to make room for more Sculpin in the tanks. So they are taking over the building next door for more cold storage. Of course they make other fine ales besides IPA, and now also distilled spirits (I'm saving my money now to taste the whisky someday), but I went here for the uber-fresh Sculpin and was not disappointed. Also got the taproom-only habanero Sculpin, which was very hot and tasty -- but a waste of good Sculpin. The tour was casual and informative, the scene in the brewery passionate and hectic. Place smells like...a brewery....yummm. Recommended for your friends who don't know where beer comes from.

Stopped by here on a whim on a rainy SD sunday. Got a private tour with me and my buddy. The brewer that showed us around was super awesome, energetic and informative. It seemed like he was showing us around "his" place, full of pride and ownership. I think their beer reflects this pride of every employee/member of the team. The tasting room was super cool, with an outdoor porch that i fully intend to enjoy next time I am in town. Chatted with the bartender who was also very helpful and informed. Bought a shirt, Overall great experience. If you are in town, swing by, you wont be dissapointed.
