In a Sam Adams pint glass, the beer was a cherry amber color with a thick tan head. A good amount of lace.
Aroma of toast and sweet fruit.
Fairly malty taste, fruit, with some herbal hops late.
Not as full-bodied as I was expecting, but still an enjoyable beer.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy amber capped by a big, rocky head; both the retention and lacing were impressive

Smell: Grainy, with an unusual lemon grass/herbal aspect; smells a little musty

Taste: Slightly sweet, like an apple cake, up front, with a growing lemongrass herbal character that dominates, after the swallow, though there is a bit of the sweetness that lingers in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A bit of an enigma that has grown on me, this beer forges its own territory; I can see how it might become the "go-to" beer for a certain type of beer drinker and that is not in anyway intended to be a condescending remark

Thanks, mdaschaf, for the opportunity

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass

The color is a clear orange/gold with a finger of foamy white head that leaves slowly and has no lacing.

The smell is malty at first with some interesting character. Some noble hop aroma is present as well.

The taste is a sweet with some slight citrus flavor and is also a bit grainy flavor with some caramel and a touch of grassy flavor.

The feel of this beer is light but has a slight crisp feel that is like a larger. There is a smooth feel going down and is drinkable but is a beer is few notables.

Draft version.

Pours a little copper colored with a touch of white foam. Light malty smell, not distinctive. Same comment on the taste - smooth, malty, little hop backing it up. Just so, so. Easy to drink, and not that it is a bad beer, just nothing terribly memorable - wonder if the bottled version would have little more bite to it?

Eh, taken in by the label and story on the bottle. That's the most interesting aspect of this issue. Nothing to see here; moderate aroma, slight clean citrusy lager-ish taste, but no body, drinkable if you're just inerested in quenching thirst, but nothing that makes it leave an impression.

Thanks to Mahlstedt for this bottle!
Appears a deep golden color with a light tan head that settles to a thin coating. Smells of caramel, malt, grain. The taste is a slightly watered down version of the aroma with a slightly dry and bitter aftertaste. A bit of zip...hop bite coming in toward the end. Light to medium body and active carbonation. A pretty acceptable drinking beer. I could handle a few.

The beer pours a hazy golden color with a thick frothy off-white head that slowly fades to lacing. There are some small floaties present. The aroma is decent. It has a light, pale and Munich malt scent along with a moderate hop bitterness and some fruity yeast esters. It has almost a sour edge to it. I'm wondering if this is a sat beer. The taste is average. It has a grapefruit flavor that seems to spell infection as well as a mild hop character and an uninspired malt bill. There is little complexity here; just some pale malts and a bit of Munich malts for color and balance. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a low/medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is an average beer at best. I'm sure it tastes better fresh, but this sample isn't doing it for me.

On tap at sunset grill. Clear orange color with small white head . Slightly sweet smell but very faint. Similar taste with mild caramel. Watery feel. Easy drinking but was hoping for more out of this alt. Not surprising that it was on special at sunset.

This is a no-frills ale. Slights smell of grains, but really not too much to it at all. Pours yellow with a centimeter head that leaves no lacing. This beer has a hint of biscuit malts but other than that not too much to it. Leaves a little bit of a stinging bitter flavor. Really, nothing else to it.

Honestly, not too impressed with this one. I'd consider this to be an easy drinking pale ale at best, but as far as an alt goes, this is not to style.

Frosty Knuckle sounds like a fun, winter time sexual innuendo.

Clear, light amber color with a large white head. Thick retention and sticky lace. Could only look better t'were it redder.

Smells like sparkling cider, toast with orange marmalade, and some swampy hops. Taste is similar drying cider with an ornery menthol bitter. Pond water at times.

Has a few nice elements but just doesn't mesh as a whole.

I think this is contract brewed by Mercury but their website isn't very informative. It seems to predominately feature the Blackburn story and a feller in a toga. Their marketing department needs some work.

Poured into a Sam Adams glass. Hazy light amber color with a foamy head that quickly dispersses into a wispy film. Nice grainy/citrus aroma. Really mellow taste with just slight bitterness and a citrus finish. Went down nice and easy. A good beer to have more than one of. Also love a beer that comes with a story.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is of caramelized malts, tea, hops and some citrus.

T: The taste is a little sweet with flavors of caramel, tea, nuts & citrus up front. Then a grainy and hearty but not too heavy malt character comes in next. There's a decent hops presence that brings some balance, however overall it seems kind of bland. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet but there's a little bit of a metallic bite in the end.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Not very flavorful, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, not the best representation of style, there are many other beers in the style that are better and this particular beer is mediocre at best.

Was going through a beer store and noticed this strange looking beer. Since I was making a mixed 6-pack, I decided to give it a go and see what it really was.

A: A light 1 finger head forms with lots of big bubbles and slowly pop to a smaller head. The semi clear semi hazy golden wheat orange color distorts the light quite a bit.

N: Hmmmm, it starts with some light almost lager like crisp aromas with light malts. Deeper nosing reveals some strange almost very light fruit like aromas and extract kinda smells. Some other strange aroma that brings to mind cleaning products. I can't put a finger on what it is, but that's just what comes to mind.

T: Meh!!!! Super meh! It starts with a very light watered down pale ale, with a slight citrus hop flavor. Some very light crystal malt flavors also come out. A touch of toast and bready qualities. A slight juicy fruit hop flavor also comes through. Mostly its pretty light on taste and watery ;-(

M: Very light on the mouth, some carbonation.

F: At least it finishes very crisp and light. Its light but refreshing flavors quell down quick, but it quenches my thirst pretty well. A slight bitterness finishes the... ummm... finish. Slightly dry as well. This would be a great "just came in from mowing the lawn in the middle of the hot humid summer day" kinda of beer, not end of fall, almost winter, freezing cold outside kinda of beer.

Pours orange with a decent white head and a little lacing. Bunch of carbonation bubbles in this one.

Lightly scented with hops, light dry grain, some fruit elements.

Some lightly toasted malt, good bready notes, some sweet-to-dry fruit, moderate hop bitterness, and a little grassy edge. Overall, not too bad.

Medium bodied but decently carbonated.

Overall, this went down ok. Not the greatest in strength or characteristics, but a very decent beer.
