Recently visited Virginia Beach for a weekend. Lived there for most of my life, and other than Hilltop Brewery, I never really saw micros on draft anywhere, with the exception of #9. Was really glad to find this place. Few blocks from the Oceanfront, in a divish building. Can't remember what used to be there, but glad the Beagle is there now. I had on draft Loose Cannon and Bells 2 Hearted, in the bottle I scored a Stone 13th Anniv. which is unbelievable by the way. Just really stoked to find a good selection of draft and bottles to satisfy my drinking needs. Didn't eat, menu looked good though. Also has full liquor for the non beer drinkers with you.

Visited 7/25/10

Told a co-worker of mine (and beer newbie) that it was time to break free from the chains of Rolling Rock, and that I would show her some new stuff after work one night. After hearing about this place, I decided to head over on a late Sunday night after we got off. I saw about 20 beers on tap and a decent sized cooler with more bottles. The bartender was pleasant and knowledgeable. I thought Sierra Nevada's Glissade would be a good transition for her, and I had a couple Two Hearted's. He was happy to suggest other beers and gave us samples. Prices were pretty fair, and I appreciated that they stayed open right up until 2 AM.

This is about the best place I've found at the Oceanfront. Before you bite the bullet and pay tourist prices at the new 11th Street Taphouse, check this place out. I will happily go back.

Just got back from VA Beach, and while down there needed a place to have a good beer or 2 while watching the VA Tech - Miami game. Thanks to BA, ended up at this place.

Definitely worth the visit compared to the other places I went to over the weekend. They had a nice selection of about 20ish beers on tap. Ended up w/ an Octoberfest (not sure by who, but it was good) and Arrogant Bastard (which was awesome). They also had DFH 60 Minute, Abita Turbo Dog, Youngs Double Chocolate Stout and a bunch of other decent stuff.

Prices were good. Coming from Northern VA, everything seemed really cheap actually. Had some of their chicken wings which were tasty enough, but I'm certainly no wing connoisseur.

The atmosphere was cool, if you're into dives. Bartenders were friendly and attentive enough. The bar patrons were also friendly and were happy to chat things up while watching the games.

Kind of smokey which didn't surprise or bother me, but I'm sure it took a couple of years off my nephews life. He had a good time playing some of the video bar games they had, but not particularly a kid friendly place.

Not knowing VA Beach very well, I'm not qualified to compare it other places in town. But having stopped by a handful of other places, I can definitely say this was the better than most, and they certainly had the best beer selection of any place I saw.

I was able to check out this place over the weekend with some friends. It was not exactly what I was expecting, but it was a cool place, nonetheless.

A: The place is decent sized, although there is not much bar area seating. Seemed to be more of a place for the locals as opposed to a tourist attraction - as it's 5 blocks off the ocean front - and it has a more relaxing atmosphere to it. They have some typical bar video games (bowling, big buck hunting, etc.) and a couple pool tables for entertainment. There's a small dining area, but I did not partake in noshing on their morsels. Overall, it was a pretty chill atmosphere.

Q: As I noted above, the place is a local place that's more of a dive bar. While the atmosphere is awesome, the place itself did seem a bit on the shabby side. The stools we were sitting in were pretty old and a little deformed. The bathrooms weren't too bad, but it's not your typical bathroom; just a room and a toilet. No urinals or other such bathroom amenities. One side of the bar area looked well-kept and nice, but there weren't too many people over there as the area was more controlled by the bar games.

Service: The bartenders were nice guys. Did not have to wait too long to get a drink. I can't really say I tested their overall beer knowledge or anything, but they were good at keeping my glass full.

Selection: The selection was pretty good. Probably about 40 different microbrews were there at the time. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're looking for a really special beer to have, but they had a nice selection of craft beers. I had a Shiner Bock and a Magic Hat H.I.P.A. while I was there. They had some other Magic Hat beers, Flying Dog, Young's Double Chocolate Stout, as well as some other breweries.

Overall, the place was not too bad price wise. It was around $4 to $5 for a beer and the same for a shot of the low-level stuff. Overall, not too bad and about what I'm used to.

Discovered this place last weekend after a golf outing. For this area, they have an incredible selection of beers. 20+ taps and 30+ bottles. There is something for everyone here. Drafts I have sampled included Thirsty Dog Old Leghumper porter, Dogfish Head Indie Brown, Dogfish Head 60 min IPA, Stone Arrogant Bastard, Victory Hop Devil and (can't remember the rest...)

Standard beach bar atmosphere. Live music almost every night. Food is very good at a reasonable price. The crabmeat stuffed portabello mushrooms are awesome! Try it out if you're here at the Beach. I don't believe there's a bigger beer selection at a bar in Va. Beach.

For all us locals I will just say that this is Phil's Grill Redux at the beach (same owner, same vibe). Few differences. Not right on the shore but a few blocks away so more local than touristy now. The new building is a lot nicer than the beach location and I'd say at least twice, if not triple in size (Phil's Grill was deceptiver - at first glace it appeared tiny but there was room). Also - about 25+ taps and only 1 beer cooler now. Some things are the same. Still do live music, good bar food (the Giant Burrito is still on the menu), good mix of seasonals and microbrews in the cooler and on tap. The only beer bar at or near the beach for us BAs who happen to be at the beach one day. Glad this place opened as I was sad that Phil's closed.
