I dropped in here with a friend for a couple brews yesterday while waiting for our train leaving the Gare de Lyon. It's less than a 3 minute walk, and a much better place to pass the time. Most of the patrons were watching/betting on horse races and drinking the basic French macros, but there was a great selection of Belgians on tap and bottled. The bartenders (3 of them in a rather small bar and at 4pm) were friendly and fast. Prices are considerably cheaper at the counter than if you are seated inside or out on the sidewalk, but even if you want a table it's still borderline inexpensive/reasonable. At the counter there are stools, but not enough for everyone. We had LaChouffe, Tripel Karmeliet, and a few others. Four beers cost 12€. There was also Maredsous Brune and Chimay Tripel. In bottles they had about every Trappist ale except Westy, running at between 4-6€ each. Brews were served in the proper glass and at a good temperature, and taps were clean. Make a point to stop in when you have a layover in the area. It's also a 10-minute walk from Gare d'Austerlitz if you're traveling light. Look for the yellow awning.

My favorite spot during a week long visit to Paris (and I hit them all - La Fin Mousse, etc.). So many positives to this unassuming beer bar ... easy Metro access, FREE WiFi, chill crowd, minimal crowds so plenty of "elbow room", excellent tap list which rotates frequently, solid food, cheapest craft beer prices in Paris ... plus the owner is super cool and allowed me to try various offering before I committed to a full pint. Love this place - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Great little cafe bar overlooking the Gare de Lyon station. Grabbed a chair on the pavement and watched the world go buy at 10.30am. Tap selection on the day was Brewdog Punk IPA, Craig Allen Cuvee d'Oscar (Nelson Sauvign Dunkelweiss), La Choufffe, Tripel Karmeliet, Chimay Tripel and Matin's Bourgogne de Flanders Red. I forgot to ask about bottles, but do believe they carry a good selection.

Staff was helpful and friendly enough, and their English speaking was waaay better than my French.

Beers seemed very reasonably priced, even when sitting outside.

Could have sat here all day and enjoy watching the Parisians walking by. Sadly, I had other things to do.

Recommended!!

There's a long story of how EdL came to be a craft beer bar, but for the sake of simplicity, let's just say that currently, this is the only bar worth going to in Paris for the following reasons.

1. Tap Selection- Last weeks highlights included: Mikkeller Monk's Elixer, Brewdog Hardcore IPA, Craig Allen (French contract brewer) Agent Provacateur (Belgian Pale) & Cuvee d'Oscar (Nelson Sauvign Dunkelweiss), La Choufffe, and Chimay Tripel.

2. Price Point- Bar prices which are 1 euro cheaper than table prices (standard Parisian practice) average 3-4 euros for a 25cl pour. Now, to some people this may seem expensive, but for those of you who have been to or live in any metropolitan area, this is a damn good price. Having been to and consumed my fair share of beer in NYC, DC, ATL, San Fran, Seattle, etc. the price is actually inexpensive...and this is Paris! Especially if you consider the average corner Brasserie charges 4 euros for a demi of Kronenbourg or Heineken!

3. Potential- Romain (the owner) has been gradually revamping his bar into a craft beer haven dedicated to supporting local breweries and obtaining new and interesting beer on tap (Mikkeller, To Ol, Brewdog, De Molen, Cantillon is even in the works).

Overall; I couldn't be happier that the Parisian beer scene has grown exponentially since I first came to France and I am proud that EdL is the first bar to step up their game and lead the pack...Cheers to Romain!

L'Express de Lyon is a great little beer bar, don't let the fact that it's a PMU turn you off. The owners/bartenders are very friendly and show enthusiasm for the beers they're pouring. They have some classics like La Chouffe and Chimay on tap (along with others) and a good bottle selection of Trappists, all served at the right temperature in the right glassware. If you're near Gare de Lyon, stop in for a pint! For good beer on tap in Paris (or even any beer), you won't find better prices than here.

While the food is simple, the portions are generous and ingredients are good quality...I especially recommend the croque madame or the charcuterie plate.

Update: Three new taps added for rotating artisinal beers. Be sure to ask what is on tap as kegs may change without them having the time to change the boards...newest addition, Hel & Verdoemenis from de Molen...
