While from the outside it doesn't really look it, this is definitely a college bar. Thursday nights this place is crazy busy with tons of U of M students. It's usually packed front to back with people with a line out the door.
Atmosphere, on most nights, is actually pretty good. There is an upstairs area with tables looking over the rest of the bar, with a stage for live music, a giant fireplace in the middle and ample tables and booths to sit. When the students flood the bar, however, it's best to leave.
Service is poor, especially on student nights. The bartenders rarely serve any drinks other than BMC and rail drinks. The servers rarely check on their tables. They pretty much leave you alone unless you go find them, which can be annoying sometimes.
Selection is very poor. Mostly your typical BMC and BMC Light beers, with the occasional import or psuedo-craft beer on tap. Don't count on anything special here.
The food is actually the highlight. I usually get burgers, and they are fairly cheap and tasty.
Sometimes it's a bit overpriced, but what do you expect from a college bar.
Overall, not a place I go to drink beer, but rather a place to hang out with friends. If your looking for a calm night enjoying good beer in a good environment, head to Stub and Herbs or Town Hall.
