Another outstanding beer from the brewers at Wachusett. This is a hefty beer. Taste is nicely balanced between the hops, bitters and the spice that makes IPA's so wonderful. I have had this beer on several occasions in several different serving formats. I guess it's a tribute to the beer, they have all been dramatically different from each other, but all equally as good. This is a great brewery.

Pours a pale golden foamy beauty. Nice head retention Smell of hops right off the bat to my nose. Freshness notch'd twice, once on march, and once on part of the upc. Carbonation is about perfect and again hops are all over this one. Great beer. I try to pick some up when I go up to Mass as its not avail. in CT.

Wachusett IPA
12 oz brown bottle
Freshness date notched for September
Served in a 20 oz tulip pint glass
* Directly from the brewery

Pours a hazy orange brown color with a great fluffy head on top. Spotted sticky lacings cling on the sides of the glass.

The aroma is a combination of hops and zingy citrus scents.

This is a very sweet and hoppy IPA. Grainy and sweet from the malts, but overall most of the attention must be given to the sharp hop flavors. Citrusy and biting, the hop presence in this beer is at the forefront.

One of the better session IPA's in this market if you can find it fresh. The brewers at Wachusett did a good job on this one. Credit must be given.

A: Orange/amber appearance. Thin white lace.

S: Hops, Hops, Hops. A little fruit and malt. Clearly, this is an IPA.

T: Hops and grapefruit are the first flavors that jump out at me. I could have this for breakfast. The malt starts to peek through at the end, but the hops stay right there with it. Manages to stay fairly balanced with all the hop flavors jumping around. Actually, it finishes quite smooth and clean.

M: Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Crisp and slightly coarse.

D: This is one of my favorites. Not as big as some of the newer IPA's, but, it doesn't have to be with all the flavor going on here. A very solid and flavorful beer. Good for a session, too.

A rich, crisp, clear amber/honey pour. My attention was drawn beyond the creamy, milky, white one-finger head to the funnel rush of rapid carbonation. This is a fresh beer, brought in cold from the brewery - "drink by May". The lace clings a milky stick. There is a delicate nose that with time is evident of soft malts, floral citrus and soft hops - in that order. The medium body goes relatively unnoticed for the first third of the mouth. The malt is not so much of taste as it is of function -fulcrum- supporting the hops. The finish is soft and relatively clear with an upflashing of bitter hops that just seem to stay with you. I enjoyed this tasting especially after training on the indoor road bike. ahhh, I sure anticiapted a refreshing brew and was cleary rewarded by such.

Big foamy, resinous white colored beer is sticky as all hell; leaving almost a sheet of lace. Chewy piney and grapefruit hop aroma. Citrus hop flavor is really tasty, and supported by some pale malts. There's a mild bitterness that comes out as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth. Just goes to show an IPA doesn't have to be a hop bomb to be good.

slightly hazy light amber color with a thick white head that fades and then laces down the glass. real nice floral/grapefruit hop aroma. sweet slick hop flavor, herbal and fruity. a bit of caramel, not enough to fully balance though. medium mouthfeel with prickly carbonation. a solid 4.0 IPA.. very enjoyable, but not remarkable, but that's certainly not a bad thing.

12 ouncer with freshness dating notched on the label. (not noting which year is being referred to allways annoys me however) Pours a light copper/amber, clear with a nice fine tiny bubble head. Leaves behind some well developed lace sheets of lacing. NIce. Light hoppy nose. Medium bodied. NIce hoppy IPA, here, grainy hops present and up front. Hops not overwhelming, but seem to fit into the typical decent IPA range. Drinkable sessioner.

Lightly hazy, yet still bright, pumpkinish amber... a beautiful IPA hue. Richly cream-like describes both the color and the consistency of the cap, a cap that has a soapy, bubbly crown and that leaves plenty of soapy, bubbly lace. The nose is fantastic and could only come from bushel baskets full of the finest North American hops. I don't know if this beer is dry-hopped or not, but it sure smells like it. Pink grapefruit peel is uppermost.

While it isn't quite as snaptastic on the palate, this is still wonderful beer. For starters, there's a satisfactory amount of malt; noted more with regards to body/mouthfeel than actual flavor. The hops build steadily from the moment beer enters mouth, but don't really peak, they just sort of level off. Thankfully, the point at which they level off is satisfying enough, even for a hophead. The body/mouthfeel is medium in a general sense and the low level of carbonation is welcome.

Wachusett India Pale Ale is damn good beer. It has a first-rate aroma with an easily accessible hoppiness that should appeal to just about everyone. Another tasty treat from the Northeast courtesy of blitheringidiot.

Out of the 4 Wachusett beer's I've sampled, their IPA was probably the better than the rest.

Pours out a hazy orange/amber color with a nice head that stays with you for a little bit.

Smell was a little light, even when the beer warmed up a little bit. Some light malts and grapefruit with an average amount of hops showing up.

Taste was a little better than the smell. A good dose of hops hit the palate, but they're not in your face type. Some good malts and fruits balance it all out, which made it go down smooth and fast.

Mouthfeel was good. Not overcarbonated or not too flat. Good flavors show up. Medium body.

A nice IPA from a local brewery. Don't know what happened to the smell, but at least it tastes good. If you like a good amount of hops, but nothing too harsh, this is for you.

Pours an appealing copper color with a chunky head. Smell is mildly floral and crisp. The head is slow to fade, and there's a lot of lacing . This is a crisp, refreshing IPA with a nicely balanced hops/malt ratio. Ultra-hopheads may not be satisfied as it's not an over-the-top brew, however there's a pleasant floral hoppiness that strikes the palate, and a nice creamy mouthfeel. A pleasant beer and one that I could easily drink as a session beer for an evening. I like it a lot.

It pours a bright copper/orange. Not as much head as I would want, and not much lace after a few sips. The smell was floral, a nice aroma. Taste had a nice floral front, hops in the middle, and just a slight bitterness on the back. A nice full, mouth feel. I’ve had Green Monsta on tap, and this has the same character, but is much more subtle. Not a bad beer. I’ll drink 1 or 2 more.

This beer is a very pleasant India Pale Ale. It arrives in the pint glass as a nice amber coloration. There was a descent foamy head. The smell has strong hints of the tasty hops contained within. The taste is nicely hoppy with smooth undertones of sweet malt. A very good beer. Give it a try.

WACHUSETT has a clearly marked freshness date on a plain label with a notch in April. Uh-oh...it's June. Here goes nothin'...c'mon seven come eleven. "Availible only in Massachusettes" bottlecap greets me first. Out with it, you 12 oz. devil!

Clear deep hazy orange pour topped off with tons 'o two finger deep cake-like off white head and a scant bit of a bubble here 'n there escaping. Mild head retention that leaves meandering hops Missippippi River silhouettes down the glass.

Fruity floral hops effervescence in the nose a la Anderson's Hop Ottin' and some grainy malt back up.

Sweet & bitter IPA taster. Well grounded while being lemon orange hoppy and citrusy. Powdery mild grassy notes with orangey fruit and earthy tones in the flavor. Overall dry aftertaste somewhat lingering. Some lolipop lingering malts.

Decent mouthfeel sizzle.

A mild ABV and well rounded IPA that goes a bit into the hop 'til ya drop genre for beer snobs like me but not too much to lose the average Joe.

Last swigs: If you like IPAs like little ole me, these could go back all night long quick fast and in a hurry. Plenty of full flavor and hops to please. This is not a 2IPA contender, but well worth seeking. Trust me. Thanks to my friend JBDubs from Millis for smuggling this one across state lines.

Beer is good. Happy hoppy beering.

From one of my favorite microbrewerys, this is a great IPA. Somewhat intense, very, hoppy in my opinion. Tad spicy and bitter, but what else do ya expect? Great hop finish, I could get accustomed to this beer if it were more widely available, but half of the fun is in the chase, right?

12 oz, longneck bottle, capped, with BBE month notch on the label.

This IPA poured a clear, amber color with creamy, off-white foam that clung to the glass. The smell was mild: fruity hops and malt. The taste was mildly fruity hops with a bit of floral hops, followed up with malt, and finally with hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel was smooth and hoppy with medium body and moderate carbonation and with a lingering fruity, hoppy flavor. This was a decent IPA with not a huge amount of bitterness.

Pours a crisp, clear light amber color with a bright white head that leaves a nice ring of lace around the glass.
Aroma is a combination of beautiful deep malt and wonderful grapefruit hop notes.
Flavor is a pale malt front that transitions into a very fruity hop bitterness. Hints of bubblegum and citrus fruit. Delicious.
Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with just a touch of dry bitter finish.
Drinkability is very high, good easily session this beauty.

Appearance: Pours a brilliant medium copper with a substantial light tan head.

Aroma: Good hoppy tones with some sweet malt giving depth.

Taste: Nice hoppy bitterness throughout, especially in the finish. Malt adds a good backbone. Could use some more hops, IMHO.

Mouthfeel: Flavorful, but too light. Needs more body and wieght.

Drinkability: A good effort, but not hoppy enough for an IPA, IMHO. Give it a try if you are in the area, but no need to seek it out.

sampled at the bar at red fez. gave a hard pour, but was unnecessary- the beer overflowed. when things settled, the brew was a nice golden copper with a big white head. smell was citrusy, hoppy and a touch earthy. taste was hop, hop, hop. and then pine, citrus and a little more hop. ends with a very clean finish.

ipswich ipa has been my ipa of choice of late and think that this may take over for a while. a big, yet highly drinkable hoppy treat.

The beer pours a nice gold color with a thick white head. The aroma is of spicey pine. It is quite hoppy, but not over the top. There is also a malty taste here. I believe that's from an addition of Munich malts. It is a medium bodied beer with good carbonation. This beer is good. It is a little high in hops for some, but I love it; A fine IPA

Orange-gold slight haze and exceedingly well carbonated. Three finger bubbly white head deflates to a floating mushroom cap.
Citrus hop aroma, that of course carry into the taste. A malt flavor that I had a hard time identifying - brown sugary dough? More malt forward than a lot of IPAs. Medium body with a rich oily feel, good acidity. A winner from a local brewery, I just have to find it on tap around here. When I do I'll probably sit at that bar for hours drinking this.

Hazy apricot color with a chunky, lumpy, frothy head. Had to actually get my nose wet to pick up a tiny aroma of hop and citrus. Flavor is initially citrusy, but a very low hop profile. A bit of an alcohol flourish in the finish, and then a strange metallic aftertaste. Sort of a "corn out of a tin can" kinda thing. Fine lacing down the glass. This seemed more like a pale ale, but the metallic flavor will keep me away.

Apricot color with fluffy head, great fresh fresh aroma of a bunch of cascades. Smells also of sugary-sweet light caramel malt. Very inviting.
Taste is good, but has a harshness that I have trouble placing. The harshness dulls as it warms, though. Good hop attack and bready malt body. Feel is nice, very drinkable.
The strange harshness took away from the taste of this beer that has amazed me in the past on draft, but it is still a very nice beer.

Color, a hazy, dark amber, with a sturdy white head above.
Big, hoppy aroma, spikey, sprucey, fruity, aflood with associations of grapefruit, citrus and more. Dazzling, arousing, a joy to drink in the nose.
Once on the tastebuds, a lovely hop-dance ensues, and while malt is not tasted, it's presence is adequately felt in this nicely balanced beer. As we continue to drink, the hops lose prominence in the flavor.
An IPA on the light side, with the flavor residing long on the plate, but playing a little too calm for my tastes. Could've been kicked up a notch, but if a mild-mannered IPA is for you, this is the one.
Thanks to UncleJimbo for it!
