Color is a amber/copper and head was medium when poured out of the bottle.
Odor is good overall. Slightly sweet like toffee or caramel.
Taste was sweet as well. Toffee notes present as well as some malty or breadyness. Some floral and pine as well. Overall smooth and relatively pleasant taste. Mouth feel is good. Light carbonation and easy drinking. Overall not the best beer from this brewery, but a pretty good spring beer.

The body of this beer is a true amber color. The head stands 1/2 inch after the pour and is cream in color. Retention isn't spectacular, recedes to a film with rocky patches of bubbles. Aroma is of floral hops, light sweet malt, maybe a touch of citrus, honey. Taste comes in smooth and creamy. The slightly thik body rolls across the to hue without much complexity. A little bit of grassy hops. I really enjoy a good maibock, but this Was pretty mediocre. I don't think I'll buy it again.

Appearance: A medium copper-like caramel color. About a 1 finger foam head. Decent but not great foam retention. A significant amount of carbonation bubbles.

Smell: Malty, dark fruits, slightly metallic alcohol.

Taste: Sweet, malty, a touch of hops. A slight bitterness to compliment the sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Slick, light mouth feel with a substantial carbonation tingle. Finishes dry.

Overall: This is a good beer worthy of the money spent.

Head was clear and kept well. Light colored for a bock. Smooth on the tongue with a light fizz. Though it tastes watery and is hopped lightly it ultimately has a flavor of a malty beer. Sweet with off flavors. Balanced OK between malts and hops. This might be an alright budget beer but is obviously marketed as a craft brew: the advertising got me!

This brew poured a copper color and left a ½ a fingers worth of a tan head that left some lacing. The aroma is one that is slightly bready with hints of toffee. The taste is slightly tart and has an earthy nuttiness to it that lingers on the palate. While not overwhelming the malt gives this Bock Beer a nice medium mouth feel.

Kind of a hazy yellow beer, soft white head with lots of little bubbles, minorly impressive lacing on this beer. Aroma was largely muted, bready, no hop presence yet slightly metallic.

Taste, high carbonation, bready again, still metallic, but easy enough to drink, mild warming presence of alcohol. Grassy mouthfeel at times. High carbonation really drives this beer mouthfeel wise. No big off flavors, just a standard middle of the road beer, I think this would be more than palateable to people upgrading from adjuncts.

Pours caramel with a finger of cream colored head. Good lacing & average head retention

S: Bready & apricot notes, some leafy hops

T: Apricot, leafy & metallic hops up front. Pear, apricot dryness & faint caramel as this warms up, slight figgyness too along with a slight leafy hoppyness, doesn't blend well. Finishes dry & figgy

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation

A mediocre bock, this misses by a bit. Like most beers from this brewery it just doesn't measure up to the style or even a good beer to just enjoy. Thanks for nothing Mendocino...

What up bock? ...and Mendocino Brewing is also here, so let's go on to the beer:

Toasted orange colored, topped off by a tiny soapy head this dissipates quick and leaves just a tiny lace of itself. The nose is a lot of apple juice, but unlike that note that I've found in other beers, it's actually decent in this one. A little cracker is there to remind that this is beer.

The flavor is tolerable at first and seems to get better. It starts apple sweet before crackery malt comes into play. A drizzle of honey adds some jazz. It's still on the sweeter side, and there's a spring of alcohol that pokes its head into the profile. It's a medium bodied beer with a springboard of "zesty" carbonation.

It's been a LONG time since I've had a Mendocino beer that I've liked, mind you, I also have done little experimentation with the brand. That's something of an accomplishment with this helles bock considering that this style of beer is one of my least favorites.

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass. Probably a tad more than an inch of head. Color was a dark caramel. Some lacing on the top and some uneven film on the sides, which was scattered throughout the glass.

A big mix of hops and bitterness on the smell. Also some pine and citrus (grapefruit). Pretty flavorful smell.

First taste is almost a honey flavor. It is then followed by a touch of bitterness, ending with pine and citrus.

Moderate-to-high carbonation. The flavor that kept sticking around was bitterness and pine/citrus.

A pretty good beer overall. I’d definitely try it again. I’d be curious to how it tastes out of the draft.

Part of the Summer Brews pack from Cost Plus World Market.

Pours a slightly murky honey orange with a fizzy 1 inch whitish-orange head that fades to a thin film. Random foamy curtains of lace form on the glass on the drink down. Smell is of biscuit, honey, and slight floral notes. Taste is of biscuit-like malt, honey, and slight grassy tastes. There is also a slight metallic taste that I am picking up. Mild bitterness on the palate after each sip. Mouthfeel is bubbly and medium bodied with a decent carbonation level. Overall, this is a pretty good bock but nothing too exciting.

I was not very impressed with this beer. Appearance was nothing special. Smell was very spicy and taste was not very good. I'm not a big fan of the Maibock/Helles bock and didn't realize that is what this beer was when I picked up the sample. The other guy I drank this with had to drain pour his. I didn't find it quite that bad but not very good none-the-less.

Thos beer poured out as a clear golden color. The head was a little fluffy at first as it settled it was left some minimal lacing. The smell of the beer had some earthy caramel and grass notes. There was a touch of burnt aromas too. The taste was decent but nothing something that really shocked me. The flavors were of some grains and malt, a slight sweetness, a toasted metallic flavor was in there too. The mouthfeel was on the light side, overall it was just another beer to me. I could really find too much that really impressed me.

This is my first time reviewing a Maibock style.

A - Poured into a New Belgium globe. It formed a half finger cream color head and kept a nice collar throughout. The color is a beautifully clear amber. Not much lacing.

S - Aroma is pleasant. Has a yeast aroma with good fruity and spicy notes that are tough to decipher. These notes interplay with a fresh and clean malt aroma. A trace of hop citrus behind it all.

T - Nice here as well. Bready malts up front with slight caramel and brown sugar sweetness. There is a funky note up front that I can't place. It fades to light hop bitterness.

M - Light moutchfeel with lively carbonation and a dry finish. Make you thirsty for the next sip.

O/D - I liked this one quite a bit. There were some notes in the smell and taste that I could not place. None of them were unpleasant. It has a good clean fresh taste and smell that I would expect from a lager. I mentioned a funky note in the taste that I am not sure whether or not would be considered a flaw for the style, but I liked it.

Not seeing as many maibock beers this spring as I normaally see this time of year.Poured into a stein a deep rich bronze with a fluffy one finger slight off white crown.Aromas of caramel, toast, and iron pretty traditional and true to the style.Big caramel flavors with underlying toast,German iron-like flavors underneath. It gets to be to sweet after a bit but its not really as bad as many others who have reviewed it think in my opinion.

12 oz. bottle, a classic style on this Beltane night,

A: Pours a lovely amber with a firm medium white head, thick lace with good head retention.

S: Sweet caramel, sugar cane juice, sweet and inviting.

T: Strong maltiness, but contains itself in balance, never cloying. Brown rice syrup with hints of molasses, with some nice hop character on the back end keeping the sugar in check.

M: Medium to full-bodied, smooth, easy going on the palate, well done here.

O: This was quite a shock for me of how good this was. I've enjoyed Mendocino beers in the past, but they've never been great. This is a great effort especially in a style that's not been a favourite of mine throughout the years. Very balanced and good flavours and full-flavoured, I enjoyed this quite a bit.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The label has no freshness date or abv%.

Appearance: Its body has a bright orange color with great clarity and some carbonation. This is topped by a just off white head about two fingers tall from the pour. This slowly settles to a thin cap that hangs on well and make for some slick lacing.

Smell: There is light bready malt sweetness here with hints of buttery toffee & caramel. I also pick up a bit of raw grain and some slight grassy/herbal hops way off in the background.

Taste/Palate: The flavor matches the aroma with a medium bodied base of sweet bready malt that has hints of toffee and caramel. This is backed up by a light grainy character and a touch of grassy hops. The palate is fairly smooth and maybe a touch light but still quite enjoyable.

Notes: Overall I feel this is a decent beer and a good value for its price rage.

Poured from bottle a copper hue with little head and lacing.

The malty aroma is quickly overtaken by butterscotch and a metalic twang.

Buttery bad homebrew flavs seem dominate.

carbonation is well represented on a medium body.

I find little redeeming with this beer, but hey what did I expect for $2.99 a six pack, right.

Great color (amber) with a really nice head. Quite tasty, but as Helles Bocks go, it's not the best I've had. Certainly not the worst either.

Feels great on the tongue, not flat, not too carbonated. Smooth like a good bock should be.

Smells great, of caramel and malt more than hops.

All in all, a good experience, and better than many of the other Mendocino Brews available.

Appearance: Deep Red and Brown color. It has a nice cherry vibrancy which I appreciate. It sort of looks like a Kellerbier. Very nice presentation.

Smell: It's clean with a nice balance of caramel malts and fresh grassy hops.

Taste: This is a very unique tasting beer. It has an oaken cherry taste from the start. Tart. Then it begins to have a cola character. Bitter Cherry Coke. I hope it can't be described so simply but I am not super thrilled about this soda-like beer. That isn't helped by the heavy amount of carbonation. What is going on here? There doesn't taste like it is aged in a cave or cellar.

Mouthfeel: The beer doesn't taste bad. It is refreshing but it far too sweet for me to drink one after another. An average beer by an average brewery.

Poured from a bottle into a Pilsener glass.

Look - reddish brown/dark amber in color, with about 2 fingers worth of light tan-colored foam that dissipates slowly.

Smell - only very slightly hoppy, but not malty either. Maybe some nutty hints too, but also subtle.

Taste and Mouthfeel - Not a lot of the hop flavor, but the bitterness is there in the finish. The the beginning and middle have a bit of a nutty taste as well. The texture is pretty well-balanced, but leans a little more toward the creamy side.

Drinkability - not very complex, but a good-tasting beer. Quite drinkable.
