look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

Appearance - Pours a somewhat hazy straw yellow with a finger width head, decent retention, results in a thin, semi-sticky lacing.

Smell - Malted grain, earthy, grassy hops.

Taste - Grassy hop forward, with a bit of malted grain. Subtle hints of lemon or lime. Finishes with a fair amount of balance.

Mouthfeel - Light body, decently carbonated. Goes down with a nice smoothness.

Overall - Decent blonde ale. Not big on the style, and this one drinks about for par. Drinkable, but probably wouldn't buy again.

The bottle bubbles over, not a good start. Makes a good head, but it dies quickly. There's a decent amount of spotty and ring lace. The liquid is dirty gold with a definitive chill haze.

Smells sweet like freshly made, light-colored caramels. No notable hop.

Pleasant "fluffy" flavor--lightly sweet with a raw, pale grain flavor. The hop is mild but present. The body is more full than I would expect; I like that. The carbonation adds to this (it's low). For a Blonde, I think this is a pretty beer. In fact, I'm a little surprised at the other reviews. It makes me wonder if I'm missing something.

look: 2.5 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2.5

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a pale yellow color with virtually no head. It looks pretty dull and has minimal carbonation.

S: Grassy corn aromas come through along with some malts and a subtle lemony citrus. However, there is also a skunky quality to the smell that hinders most other aromas.

T: The taste is comprised of tangy citrus with some malts and a light bitterness. Unfortunately, the taste also has that skunk-like sensation. It isn't terribly unpleasant, but it does block other qualities.

M: It is medium bodied, has minimal carbonation and is thin with an almost watery feel.

O: This isn't really my favorite style to begin with, but I have certainly had better offerings. I usually enjoy Mendocino's beers, but I think I will pass on this one in the future.

12oz longneck
A) Pours with a finger thick head that sticks around - great retention. Clear golden body. Upward carbonation.
S) Grainy. Subtle floral notes. Not very aromatic and quite dull.
T) Astringent taste. Grainy with slight malty sweetness.
M) Fizzy. Light body. Dry finish.
O) Not a very good beer. I will not be having another one of these. The initial astringency was unappealing.

12 oz bottle.

Pours a slight hazy golden-yellow; bubbly with a short, and short-lived near white head.

Weak but nice aroma. Mainly light toasted grain with some fruitiness.

The taste largely follows the aroma; again, decent quality

M - good body for style. Slightly dry finish.

O - a decent but undistinguished summer ale.

A: Pale straw color. Poured a 2 finger stark white head that dissipated to a thin skim thicker on the edges. Decanted lazily. Broken lacing.

S: Pale malt. Faint light-colored fruit; white grape and pear. Even fainter spices.

T: Same as the nose; sweeter. Fruit more like lemon and orange. For a relatively low ABV beer, a fairly distinct alcohol taste. Finish stays a little sweet.

M: Light body. Moderate carbonation. Smooth and sweet with a finish that turns dry.

O: Doesn't carry-off the balance very well.

look: 3 | smell: 2 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 2.5

Appearance: Straw color, 1/2 inch white head, moderate lacing, average retention.

Aroma: Bready, skunky, definitely expecting some diacetyl in this one. Odd, especially since the beer is fresh.

Flavor: Orange at first, quickly turns into lemon, then a bit of butterscotch (there's that diacetyl). Surprised to taste a moderate amount of alcohol, considering alcohol content is only 5% ABV.

Mouthfeel: Light body, dry, the moderate carbonation helps to smooth things out a bit.

Overall Impression: Balance just isn't there. Too bitter and a bit skunky, even when fresh. Not very drinkable. 12 ounces of this brew was more than enough for me.

Poured from a bottle into a Pint glass.

Look - clear golden color, with good carbonation and about half a finger of dull khaki-colored foam that dissipates slowly.

Smell - maybe a little biscuity or skunky smelling. Seems to have more malt smell in it than hops.

Taste and Mouthfeel - much like the smell, a bit skunky tasting. There's a little bit of bitterness at the finish, but not much there in the beginning or middle except for the "skunky" flavor. Texture is pretty well balanced.

Overall - it's an okay brew, but not at all interesting or thought-provoking.

Beuatiful frothy head. Very nice smell and a decent easy to drink taste. This is an easy drinker and has some flavoring to go with it. I found this a decent beer from a little know brewer. Respectable and well crafted. A good summer beer. I just wish their others were this good.

This is the second offering I have tried from Mendocino. I really enjoyed their oatmeal stout and has hoping to get the same satisfaction from the Blonde Ale.

I didn't.

The pour was nice. Plenty of carbonation and a nice head. It even laced well throughout the drinking.

I'm not going to lie, I like my beers on the hoppy side, which is probably one reason that this beer seemed really flat on flavor. In fact, I'd call it just a step up from, say, Coor's Light. There is nothing really BAD about it, but there is nothing really good either.

In some aspects, it's almost like drinking beer flavored water.

In supposed a redeeming value would be that this would be an ideal beer to introduce to a mainstream beer drinking friend who has been to afraid to try craft beer in because it might be too strong or weird. Call it a gateway beer, I guess. But I can still think of other beers I would defer to first.

This beer wasn't too bad. It had rich malty aroma with some hop spice. It poured a nice copper color with a bit above average head and lace. The flavor started off somewhat like a wheat beer with some clove and spiciness and mellowed out with some malt characteristics. There was a bit of corniness at the end. It had an alright mouthfeel and was very drinkable.

I have had this bottle for 3 months without even knowing it until today.Poured into a standard pint glass a pale light golden with a thin wispy white head that was gone in a hurry.some butteriness and light toast in the nose and thats about it,pretty ho hum.Watery and sharp in the mouth, kinda unpleasant in that aspect.Slightly buttery flavors along with some toasted cereal grain, pretty much thats it.I wish I wouldnt have found it really, just a bland beer, the butteriness doesnt help the drinkablility,I dont think it would be all that good on a hot day either.

Picked up a 6-pack on sale at safeway.

look: nice copper color but no head at all. I mean there were like 5 bubbles in this guy.

nose: "smells like cheap lager" barley malt, "noble" hops & sad old yeast

taste: barley soup, mineral water, no hop presence at all kind of reminded me of miller high life

mouthfeel: lifelessly flat, but smoothish

drinkability: found myself drinking it fairly quickly -- reminds me of the gourmet trope: you eat less when there's more flavor.

Aroma: Faint aromas of corrugated cardboard dipped in butterscotch are most prominent. Behind the first impression it is very lightly malty. Very light noble hop bittering aroma - barely distinguishable.

Appearance: Warm pale yellow color. Very clear. A little bit of white fine bubbled head that dissipates quickly and has negligible lacing.

Flavor: Very light and malt profile like Pale or Pilsner malts. Hop bittering is fairly light - a bit of indistinguishable noble hop character. Very slight carbonate profile, like mineral water - though it could be partly from the carbonation. Balances and nothing stands out in the finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium light body and carbonation. A little bit slick in the finish. And slightly dry. Doesn't change in the finish.

Overall Impression: Lands somewhere between Budweiser and Samuel Adams Boston Lager - just a little more ale fruitiness and body. It was drinkable enough to finish the 12oz, but I wouldn't be interested in another.

Aroma is faint...some citrus is there, but that's it.

Taste is pretty bad. It basically consists of some off-putting weak lemon and an odd sour taste...kind of like sour cheese. Not good. Carbonation seems low too. Also, there aren't any hops in this, so it seems. Just boring.

Definitely won't get this again.

Clear golden colored ale with a small white head.

Aromatic ale with strong honey and grain aroma. Caramel scent and not much hop aroma.

Starts out really neutral in flavor. Just malt with a stronger grain flavor and a little caramel. Little bit of noble hop but far from a bitter ale.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Good drinkability. These mostly flavor free beers are the hardest to review. There is nothing offensive at all here, but nothing exciting either. A perfectly innocuous beer that is also pretty boring. Been here and tasted that won't need another one.

Pours a hazy, golden color. 1/2 inch head of a white color. Great retention and decent lacing. Smells of hops, wheat, slight yeast, slight floral, slight citrus, spice, and slight earthy malt. Fits the style of an American Blonde Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of hops, slight spice, slight wheat, slight yeast, slight citrus, grain, and slight metallic. Overall, good appearance, good aroma, and blend. Body is lacking though, the grain and metallic flavors hurt.

Pour is very light golden. Yellow like an american lager. Nose is of corn...like an american lager.

Entry is rather fruity and slight hop backing. Doesn't need much hop to back this malt profile. Again, flavors of corn. A cardboard... blah, flavor.

It seems that they are trying to make an entry ber for macro drinkers. Does little for me.

I tasted opposite Mission Street Blonde Ale from Trader Joes - Firestone Walker which blew this away.

12oz bottle

A- Pours a golden orangish yellow color with an off-white head that disappears into a thin ring of lacing around the glass.

S- The aroma is fruity and malty and slightly buttery wild mild hops.

T- The taste like the aroma has a some sweet malt up front with a good amount of fruitiness as well.

M- The mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation.

D- Overall, this is a pretty solid summer seasonal. It is light bodied with a good amount of flavor. Definitely worth a try.

Pours a slightly hazey caramel colored blonde. Quick head that doesn't last and barely any visible carbonation.

The aroma is creamy lactose and sweet kaiser rolls. Can't detect any hops.

The taste is a thin, creamy vanilla and mildly toasted malt. The hops add some dryness to the texture or maybe this was brewed with hard water. The texture is nice, but the flavors leaves you wanting more.

This was given to me in a summer sampler as a gift from my neighbors (for letting them use the pool this summer). The thought was nice, and there was also a 12 of GReat LAkes in there, but this one was pretty foul.

There are aftertastes of rotten fruit and just plain nasty things. This one may be bolder than others of the style, but it quickly tastes bad.

In the end I just rushed through it to get rid of the beer, but it was not a good experience.

Pours light gold with almost no head. Aromas are faint and characterless, perhaps a touch of grain. Taste just plain bad. Flavor is comprised mainly of grainy malts and lots of skunk with something like rotten lemons that only make it worse. Thin body is unappealing. I will not buy this one again.

Pours yellow with a small head. Not much retention, or lacing.

Aroma is mildly hoppy and maybe a tad bit malty. Overall its very mild, and sort of bland.

Taste is also bland, with a metallic finish that I wasn't too fond of. The other profiles are the mild hops, a slight skunk and a slick mouthfeel. Carbonation is good and because of this, drinkability could be high. But the flavor is just so eh. Its not offensive, but it isn't a beer I'd get again.

OK, this is distressing. I hate this new "trend" in American Craft Brewing wherein the brewers try to disguise what, for all intents and purposes, is a "light beer" by calling it something else. Stone paraded out their Levitation ale, and it sucks ass. Although this is better, and appears to actually be a real beer and not a "light", "lite" or whatever "L...t" type of marketing ploy you use to describe it as, it still fails to live up to the expectations I would have of one of America's oldest and most traditional brewers. Very pale yellow in color, almost lemonade like. Pours with a sprtizy head and stays fairly well carbonated. Nose is very malty and a little bit floral. So far, not too bad. One sip, though, and you know something is amiss. The flavor starts off very malty and quickly dissipates into a very long, and super thin finish. You've had this style of beer before, and without naming names, you probably stopped drinking it in the 11th grade when you found something better. It definitely has the characteristics of a traditional Blonde, but lacks any hint of Belgian spiciness. This is more an American-style pilsner, but not very pilsner-ish. This is not good, and is overpriced when you think of the other beers of the same style you can buy. This is, to me, the end of an era...

Got this one on a whim. Haven't tried much else in the stlye. Let's see.

A: Golden yellow with a small 1 inch white head that quickly fades. Decent.

S: Hmm, just kind of smells like urine. Gross...

T: Man, tastes like a mix of dirty water and trash. Oh man. Kind of like puke! Disgusting. The flavors are a horrible blend! I get a little beef stew flavor blended in. Gross...

M: Does not leave much on the palate. Ok.

D: Goes down a little harder than I would have liked. This one is just gross.

All in all, nope, nope, nope! This brew is pretty disgusting. I do not say that about many. The flavors bouncing around in this brew just are not complex at all and do not compliment each other in any good ways. Avoid, at all costs!
