Bottle served up in a large globe glass. Pours an inky black with a thin dark brown cap. Light retention yet decent lacing follow.

Aroma is strong on roast and chocolate though not overdone. Low carbonation requires some agitation to renew a surface film so as to appreciate the malt depth and reveal a touch of chocolate sourness. Warms to add a subtle smoky character.

Taste is smooth and creamy with a decent feel that belies the lack of apparent carbonation. Coffee and chocolate with just a light roast character on the taste. Bittersweet chocolate offers a decent lingering finish.

Overall a good and quite straightforward stout. Oats add a creamy feel and finish but the light carbonation limits the love here.

Poured jet black,no highlights even when held to the light, fluffy mocha colored head atop that settled pretty slowly leaving no lace behind. At first the aromas were somewhat muted but after a minute sitting in the glass some nice cocoa, earth, and vanilla note showed themselves nicely.Low carbonation feel giving the beer an almost creamy feel wich was real nice.Mellow roasted flavors along with cocoa powder,a tinge of dark fruit, and a milk stout-like lactose sweetness in the finish.A solid oatmeal stout here,I was pleasantly surprised I have to say.

Thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is roasted malt with some chocolate. The flavor is chocolate, roasted malt, some smoke and some oats. Medium, creamy mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A very nice oatmeal stout and the best Mendocino beer I have tried.

12oz bottle pulled from fridge and allowed to warm up for about half an hour. no freshness date. poured into a bulb style glass.

pours out a opaque black with 2 fingers of biege creamy expresso like head. faded to a smooth creamy thin layer. just tiny bits of lace. very dark, the color and head are reminiscient of a RIS.

the first thing that jumps out at me in the aroma is smoke. behind that there is some roasted/ burnt malt, and a bit of lacto and oatmeal like creaminess and just a hint of dark fruits.

wow, very tasty stout we got here. follows the aroma with a nice balance of smokey burnt wood, heavily roasted malt, and oatmeal/ lacto creaminess. behind that, theres a bit of dark fruitiness, raisons, dates, figs, etc.

smooth creamy medium body. adequate carbonation for the style.

very drinkable beer, drank 4 of these new years eve with a few other beers no problem. and for 7$ a sixpack, you cant go wrong at all. definatly improved my overall opinion on mendocino brewing company. the welcome addition of smoke really made this beer for me. highly recommended IMHO.

Good deep dark brown pour, tan head in the range of 1" on the top. Mild roast notes in the aroma, even some detectable hops believe it or not.

Good evenflow and balance, the oats allow the beer to be smooth, not bitter, but allow the mouthfeel to still be thick enough to not be described as watery. Not a real distinct chocolate or coffee mouthfeel to it, really just full of two row consistency. Which is fine, not everything needs to be all imperialed out or barrel aged, this is a nice somewhat sessionable stout.

Scored a 6 pack of this for $6.99 at Ledgers's Liquors about a year ago. Drank 5 of them in the last year. Still have one left, in the course of the year, each one tasted the same as the last, indicates its pretty sturdy, sure some beers can taste great in a small window of time, this one tastes good in a large window of time.

Dark charcoal appearance, full thicket of tan head with fine even lacing. Aroma soft herbal notes with dark chocolate and some soft creaminess. Dark fruit undertones wrapped in chocolate. Flavor has a strong fruitiness, dark chocolate hints of cocoa soft vanilla cream finish. Mouthfeel, is creamy mouthfeel is medium bodied soft carbonation. Drinkability overall is pretty decent not my favorite oatmeal stout, solid experience one of the better Mendocino brews I've had in recent times.

Undated 12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

A- Pours a fully opaque black color with large, dark tan head. This quickly reduces to a thin layer, but this has excellent retention and a thick ring that leaves plenty of sticky lacing.

S- Baked bread, oatmeal, and plenty of roasted malt with no burnt or even particularly dark roasted grains.

T- A full, hearty malt flavor that's richer and darker than the aroma indicates, and with more contribution formo the oatmeal. Well balanced and very lightly smoky. Slightly bitter and a tad sour, with a fine and lasting, toasted grain aftertaste that has a light coffee edge.

M- Medium carbonation; creamy smooth, slick/oily mouthfeel; Full body.

O- OATMEAL stout - easily recommended for those who like more than a hint of oatmeal in their stouts.

Appearance - Pours a near pitch black with cola brown edging and a tan, finger width head. Retention is subpar, but leaves behind a significant, sticky lacing.

Smell - Rich chocolate. Slightly bitter notes.

Taste - Starts with rich chocolate, as notes of roasted coffee poke through. Slightly unbalanced. Not much in the way of hop character, and it causes this to be a bit overly sweet. Finishes in nearly the same place at it starts. Simple and straight-forward.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Carbonation is spot on, leaving just enough tingle to keep this beer feeling lively.

Overall - A promising stout, but it falls short of being great. The lack of hops causes this beer to be too sweet and one-dimensional, and kills any chance of being sessionable. Probably works best as a desert beer.

Deep black with ruby undertones. Fairly thick head of tan bubbles. Nice and thick lace. Solid appearance.

Nose is burnt malts and chocolate. There's a hint of graininess somewhere in there, too. Maybe that's the oats I'm detecting?

Taste is charred malts up front, followed by an astringent, almost vinegar tone. Ends on a burnt cocoa vibe.

Overall, quite average. I wasn't too impressed.

The aroma of the Mendocino Oatmeal Stout promises lots of oatmeal flavor along with oily hops and perhaps some molasses. Full of big, earthy flavors, this is a very smooth stout. Roasted oats dominate (as they should), followed by bittersweet chocolate, bourbon, and wood. Floral hops make a nice presence at the end, but don't overshadow anything.

Quite quaffable, but I wouldn't be opposed to more oatmeal in this

One of my favorite oatmeal stouts. I love that it is located locally, and that I can stop in for samples. Their whole line seems to reasonably priced. Last year I only bought a six pack then I found out it was seasonal. This year I already have a case, and I am headed to Minogues for another growler of it Yum!
