12oz Bottle into Pint Glass
The Mendocino Brewing Company (East Coast Plant) is right down the road from me in Saratoga NY. Figured I should start diving into the local brews - and at $6.99 a 6 pack, a good price as well.
A - Poured a very hazy golden color, 1/2 finger head with good lacing.
S - An upfront yeasty smell, I did not get much fruit, and from the smell was a little concerned that the taste would have the yeast as well.
T - Thankfully the yeast flavor was not upfront to my tastebuds. Bitter hops bite hits the front, with a mild fruit/sweet flavor on the tongue. As the beer warmed, a slight buttery flavor became present, not overpowering though. The bitterness does stay as an aftertaste - but a good flavored beer
M - Medium, and the carbonation really tingles the tongue
D - This was my first Blue Heron, and I followed it with two more. A nice crisp pale ale, I can see drinking this one in the summer - very refreshing, and a decent ABV to provide some kick.
The Mendocino 12 pack sampler is rearing its head in our local stores, after enjoying the Blue Heron, I think that will be my next purchase so I can try some more from this locally brewed beer. Looking forward to it!
