Notes/Commercial Description:
To honor Fall we offer our deep mahogany hued Pumpkin Ale, bursting with a robust roasted malt flavor. To this mélange we add copious amounts of pumpkin and embellish that further with nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. This would have been ideal, but perfection is our preference and so we diligently add cocoa nibs as the beer conditions and intensifies the depth of flavor. This melds magnificently with the pumpkin and spice. And as a fitting finale we gently introduce hops to compliment this complex potion and the result is a finish that is clean and brilliant.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Firestone restaurant pint glass
From: BevMo in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $14.99 for a BevMo variety 8-pack (w/ BevMo card)
Purchased: Dec. 31, 2013
Consumed: Jan. 3, 2014
Misc.: N/A

Poured an amber orange color with three fingers of khaki white head that shrunk pretty quickly. A decent amount of bubbles coming up from the bottom. Very good layered foamy lacing along the sides of the glass on the way down. Great and thick retention all the way down.

Smelled pumpkin seeds, peppery spices, cocoa, nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate and faint peppermint.

Tasted a bit better than the smell. First thing I noticed was cocoa, chocolate and fudge chips. Also pumpkin, nutmeg, caramel, toffee pumpkin rind and faint cinnamon. Maybe even some chili peppers in there late?

Medium body. Oily texture. Average-to-lively carbonation. Long, spicy finish.

The most different kind of pumpkin beer I’ve ever had. A couple of my ratings could have gone either way, but I’d try it again.

Pours a...wella pumpkin orange color with a nice looking billowing white head that has a creamy texture to it and never really settles.Aromas of cinnamon and clove mainly and on the lighter side.Prickly at first in the mouth with a lighter to medium feel.Pumpkin pie spice with only cinnamon actually standing out over the rest,a bit of a drying earthiness in the finish.Par for the course I guess for the style, nothing stands out but it's not horrible.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

Lovely looking froth, clear reddish hue. Mild pumpkin and spice int the nose, chicory, fresh grain, orange pith, and mild caramel. Smooth, cocoa nibs, pumpkin, noticeable but still vague spicing, mild broth, very light hopping, dusty grain, ends dry.

A bit different than the usual pumpkin brews but still well within the same vein, the cocoa nib element could have been dialed up a bit more ... perhaps an addition of darker malts would have elevated this beer as well. Give it a try.

Pumpkin pie aromas.

Taste features much more of the cocoa with the nibs and in the malt. Pumpkin is there but it's subtle. Other spices add a kick of spice to the end.

Mouthfeel has low carbonation and is pretty smooth with an up beat finish from those spices.

Overall it's a good seasonal. Add even more pumpkin and it's a true winner.

Saw this new one from Mendocino while traveling back east and picked up a sixer....new fall seasonal....

Nice appearance ,poured into a tulip....some foamy creamy white head, about 1/2 ", nice amber orange color

Smell is nice, pretty muted, but pick up the cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger it is brewed with; slight smell of chocolate, from the cocoa nibs

Taste is decent, I like it; solid brew, easy drinkability, nothing crazy but to the style

Good medium mouthfeel, easy to drink, on a warmish September day sitting outside, not too sweet

Overall, I am glad I picked this one up; some of their beers are so - so, but this is a nice pumpkin at a nice price point ($8.99 / six) - worth checking out!

A- pours a bright clear copper color with a small foamy off-white head, good retention of a small layer on top

S- typical pumpkin spice aromas of nutmeg, ginger & cinnamon. Some cola and cinnamon potpourri, sweet and malty

T- nice malty backbone to this beer, the spices kick in mid-palate with cinnamon being the most dominant if the variety, the cocoa nibs are noticeable near the end and add just a touch of chocolaty sweetness on the finish that compliments it nicely. The toasted malt and cinnamon bring flavors of cinnamon toast on the finish

M- medium body and carbonation, foamy mouthfeel and crisp finish, slightly chalky on the linger

O- nice malty pumpkin ale with an emphasis on the cinnamon, which is not artificial tasting like most. Overall solid

The appearance of this Pumpkin has a lot of amber mixed with a brownish orange. The head was fizzy and bubbly but it did settle to a tightly knit foam.

The scent is typical pumpkin ale with gourd, light cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and some bread or malt.

The flavor has nice pumpkin tones, good spice and a light balance of everything you expect. Nothing screams out superb Pumpkin experience but it is tasty.

The feel is easy refreshing but highly carbonated.

This is a nice beer that I would definitely drink again. I can taste the spices with a subtle pumpkin flavor and mild hoppiness. Cocoa nibs are added, but I cannot taste them. The mouth feel is a little malty, but not real sweet. The color is anice orange-brown. Carbonation is good, but not much head. No yeast at the bottom.

A: The beer is clear amber orange in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high light tan colored head that has very good retention properties and took a long time to die down, leaving lots of rings of bubbles down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of cinnamon sticks are present in the nose.
T: The taste has strong flavors of cinnamon along with notes of pumpkin and other pumpkin pie spices. There is a slight amount of bitterness and the cinnamon spices linger through the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: Both the smell and taste of this beer are dominated by flavors of cinnamon, so if you don't like this particular spice you're probably not going to like this beer. It said it was brewed with cocoa nibs but I didn't detect any of these flavors or associated sweetness. With all of the cinnamon, it seemed a little one-dimensional.

On draft at Tap and Barrel, Smithtown, NY.

Poured a deep amber hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured an astringent rind and faint spices.

The taste consisted of a smattering of dry spice with a vegetal rindy pumpkin.

The mouthfeel was toward the lighter side of the style.

Overall a decent pumpkin ale.
