Visited the Avenue Pub based on Beeradvocate reviews when work took me to New Orleans this week. When we first arrived, the after-work crowd was still there, and it was nearly impossible to get a beer w/ only two bartenders. So, we went and got dinner somewhere else first. Came back, and the place was busy, but much more sane. The Avenue Pub seems to cater to good quality American craft beers. I did try a rare Belgian dubbel they had on draft, but everything else was American. They had around 45 beers on draft, and many more in a bottle. I talked w/ the bartenders who were extremely busy, but very friendly and were willing to chat about beer w/ me for a few moments. They seemed to enjoy that I was so impressed w/ their selection, and that I had come there because of reviews on this website. If you're in New Orleans, I highly recommend The Avenue Pub. You won't find a better beer selection in New Orleans.

"Divey" is the wrong word. So many places try too hard for divey but this place is homey in a more genuine way than so much of the more touristy section on nola. Beer selection is not the best I've ever seen anywhere but pretty respectable, including sours on draft (mucho bonus points for me) and again, the other places nearby are pretty limited. Food is a mixed bag; less pretentiously French/creole but high quality for what there is. Will definitely be back.
