I was in New Orleans for work about 8 months ago and ended up at Avenue pub twice in 3 days with my co-worker, who was not a beer geek. They do have great drafts/bottles, and good bar food. It's definately a 'local' hangout and off the tourist tract. It was my first stop and ended up being my last before heading to the airport. As noted the staff can be a bit aloof, but i think that's more related to the local feel of the place, but once you get beyond that, it's just fine. They must have the best selection of beer in town, and the food I had was tasty and reasonably priced, and plenty of it.

In a sea of Michelob Ultra Tallboys and Fireball shots, this is an oasis! Had the great pleasure of meeting Miriam, the bartender, while visiting from Seattle. She is well versed in styles and more than happy to offer suggestions--home brewer, formerly from Anderson Valley Brewing, she is on top of it. Great dive bar feel (can't remember the last time I have seen a cigarette machine), but the craft beer selection is thoughtful and well curated--Founders Black Rye and Great Raft Grace and Grit DIPA were terrific. Though the kitchen was transitioning from lunch to dinner, they were able to pull together a nice hummus plate that paired well with my IPA's. Will surely be back!

I dragged the wife all the way from the French quarter to this place and the whole walk over she was killin me about "this place better be good" stuff..
I was nervous when I saw this place from outside.. Even more nervous when I walked in and saw NO tables.. Just a bar and hella people standing up everywhere with what they call "Go cups"

Wow what a FREAKEN selection of AWESOME beers.. I could tell hear guys and gals knew their beer . They were also a humble a can be.. Great group of bartenders..

Now that bad part.. I didn't try the food! That's it..
Check your attitude at the door. This ain't your craft snob hangout .. This is a place to enjoy good beer in Go cups! Ahaha
This is the only bar I've ever been to that let me walk out the door with 2 barrel aged beers for my walk back to the hotel

3 of the beers that I tried to order weren't on tap. I went with 2 other things I wasn't really excited about. I had never heard of 1 of the two and the style wasn't listed. No samples at this bar which is annoying. I ended up buying 2 terrible beers that weren't even enjoyable. Prices are very high. Pours seemed to be short. I can't see how this place is rated 100 on here. I'd have a hard time going back.

Top 5 beer selection of any bar that I have been to. We went during the day on a weekday so that it wouldn't be that crowded. The owner was there, she was very friendly and even made some beer suggestions. The waitresses were very good, the beer was even better. i loved that they offered small pours so that you could try more beer in one visit. Next time I'm in New Orleans, this will be the only place that I go to for beer.

Easily the best beer bar in the area. The bartenders were cool, the place was out of the craziness of Bourbon street, and the food was good pub fair. I'll go back every time I'm in town!

Best place in NOLA to find a variety of well crafted beer. Whiskey/Scotch selection is a bonus.

Great selection of draft and bottles. I've been traveling around the US and have been looking for any type of de Struise beer for awhile (either bottle or tap)--they had Weltmerz on tap. Definitely a world class beer list.

I went on a Friday night around 9:30 PM. Place was busy, but not packed. Service upstairs was slow and impersonal. Downstairs service was better. Nice that they could keep my tab at both bars. I went for the beer list, not the service, but would have been nice if the bar staff demonstrated an interest in what they had available.

Atmosphere was what you would expect from an older NOLA bar (i.e., older building, creaky stairwell, mismatch furniture, low light, etc.). Crowd the night I went was mostly college-educated late 20's, early 30's. Was able to easily find a place to sit with my wife.

Did not try the food.
