Found myself in Appleton this weekend for family obligations, and had a couple hours to kill Sunday evening on College Ave.

Walked into Bazil's, which is basically a long bar on the left-hand side with a patio located out back. The decorations are typical college-town memorabilia with Golden Tee, darts, and trivia boxes. Bazil's appears to be attached to a couple of other taverns/restaurants in the same building, but didn't venture into these establishments. I am unclear as to if these are run by the same people or not.

The tap list is fair, with Hoegaarden, Stella, and other higher-end macros. The reason that I thought this place should be added to the BA directory, however, is the decent bottle list. They boast 100 bottled beers served on their beer list. Most are run-of-the-mill domestic and imported macros, but also several craft offerings. Some of the craft brewers offered, most with several beers from each lineup, include: Central Waters, New Glarus, Tyranena, Bells, Unibroue, with New Belgium soon to be arriving. Definitely a large step up from most taverns in the area.

The service was friendly, willing to explain which type of beer each selection was on the beer menu - the beer list didn't give many details. Didn't eat, but saw a grill behind the bar so I assume one could get a burger there.

Overall, much of my review grades are based upon this tavern's location. If this tavern were located in an area with more craft beer culture, this place would be average. The fact that it is located in the Fox Valley means that this place is an oasis in comparison to most of the other taverns on College Ave. Recommended for the BA traveler if looking for a place that serves a decent bottle list.

Had a list of their craft bottle offerings in the window outside as well as on every table. Decent offerings from New Glarus, Goose Island, Bells, Central Waters, Tyranena, and a few Three Floyds. Bartender was super nice and recommended a few other beer spots in town to hit up. Had more glassware thin just pints for bigger beers which I didn't really expect. Tap list was decent with some New Belgium, Central Waters, New Glarus, and some other more common ones. Central Waters Illumination on tap was the highlight for me and a bottle of Robert The Bruce. Didn't get around to any food but the menu looked pretty promising. Overall is a really good bar that I would recommend over some of the others I went to on this street. Is all about the bottle list and the service.
