33cl bottle bought in ABS drinks in Winksele.

Appearance: Blonde hazy brew with large creamy head that diminishes after a couple of minutes. The foam forms a coating layer that rests for a long time.

Smell: malts, yeast, spices, raisins & grapes but above all: sour apples. (Granny Smith)
Unusual but delicous and appetizing.

Taste: Spices and (roasted) malts mainly with notes of alcohol and yeast. The sour apples pop back up in the bitter roasty finish

Mouthfeel & Drinkability: Medium carbvonation and smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Drinkable? You bet, but this stuff is quite intoxicating. Heady as hell.

Conclusion: I'm sort of surprised to see other BA's talking about a sweet brew. I found this brew to be slightly dry & pleasantly bitter. Nevertheless; this is a very tasty tripel indeed, but man is this stuff strong. I'm off to bed.

Beer pours a clear peachy amber. Rocky tan colored head is slow to deflate to a thick collar that leaves gobs of thick white lacing.

The initial take on the scent is fruity, slightly boozy and candy sweet. Nice notes of fresh pear and green apple. Very mild phenolic spiciness.

The taste is similar with strong notes of boozy fruit and sticky sweetness. Almost too sweet, but the phenolic and alcohol heat helps tame the sweetness. Mouthfeel is lively and medium bodied.

Nice beer all around. I always have difficulty and a personal preference against triples that come off sweeter and this one toes the line.

11.2 oz bottle poured into a wine glass. Served chilled. Bottled on date of 08/2010.

Appereance: fizzy cap of white foam with a gold body. Lots of yeasty particles floating around. Sudsy head that sticks around. No lacing whatsoever.

Smell: sweet fermented fruits and funky yeast. Floral alcohol.

Taste: lots of oxidized pears, apples and other oxidized sweet fruits. Spicy Belgian yeast esters and some bubblegum. Rubbery like funk at the end.

Mouthfeel: lots of spicy, perfume alcohol. Plenty of prickly carbonation.

Overall: Textbook Triple. Quite warming but hidden by the nice fruit sweetness. Held up well over 3 years. Recommended if Triples are your thing.

330ml bottle into a goblet. There is no age stamped on the cap but judging by the other De Dolle beers at the liquor store, this one is probably around 2008 vintage.

Pours a very dirty dark gold with lots of specks in it. However the head is a very billowy, frothy bright white with a few specks of yeast so I have to give it some credit for that.

Right off the bat in the aroma I can tell this beer has some age. The sherry/wet cardboard note of oxidation is quite present and overpowers anything else. Apple is very strong along with notes of plums and dark fruit; sort of out of character for a triple.

The flavor continues the oxidized notes. More apple and plums along with sherry. The oxidation character starts to become a little too much as the flavor lingers. There is almost a touch of smokiness about it but not in a real good way. This beer definitely does not have the characteristics of a Tripel that I was expecting. Mouthfeel is quite sticky; not dry like I was hoping for.

Overall, I feel like this beer is a bit past its prime. I was hoping to get a nice, aged beer but this one has been on the shelf a bit too long. Hopefully I will be able to try a fresh sample one day.

Pours a rusty orange amber with a medium white head. Aroma ripe apple, pears, Belgian yeast, fruity alcohol esters, some dark fruit notes as it warms up. Taste of Belgian yeast, fruity flavor of dark fruit, dried plums sweetness and a mild tartness, sweet alcohol. Palate is a med to full body with sweet tart Belgian yeast and moderate carbonation. Finish is of sweet ripe dark fruit, dried sweet tart plums, Belgian yeast, with mild bitterness and sweet alcohol. Overall a very good, tasty and all around flavorful brew, very nice

From a 330 ml bottle (Dated October 2013 on the cap) into a chalice.

A-A gentle pour produces about two fat fingers of light tan head. The foam is dense and retention is quite good. There is a good show of carbonation in the glass, too. The beer is clear and orange-ish golden in hue.

S-The aroma offers of lots of fruity, warming alcohol. I smell green apple and candy sugar, in particular, as well as a bit of bubblegum, some pepper spice, and a bit of lightly bitter, grassy/straw-scented hops.

T-The taste is not afraid to show its 10% ABV, but the taste is less assertive than the smell, which is a good thing. The flavors are still fruity (green apple flesh) and sweet up front, but there is a bit more spice (pepper and clove) and light lemon tartness. The finish is lightly bitter and suggests dry grass and spice.

M-The body is medium in heft with an above average level of carbonation that hurts the smoothness factor.

O-This is a pretty solid tripel. It is very aggressive, with the alcohol but the flavors are nicely balanced, so the beer manages to get away with being so in-my-face. The hops are especially well-done here. The mouthfeel is a little fizzy for my liking in a tripel, but overall this a solid beer that I will drink again if I need a break from my usual Karmeliet fix.
