Bottle states it was aged in "Calvados casks 2003." I'm assuming that means since 2003. The bottlecap said bottled in 2005.
Pours a hazed amber with an off-white fluffy head with finely beaded bubbles. The body of the beer is hazed by a suspension of nearly invisible particles. The head made some large strokes of lace.
Smell is extraordinarily perfumey with bright tropical fruit flavors and candied strawberries with a woodsy lacing throughout. As it warms I can pick up on some of the alcohol in the nose. Very complex with changes as it warms.
Taste is a little more woodsy and earthy than the nose. More of the cask wood flavoring is apparent as is the alcohol. The fruit flavors lean toward strawberry and apple at first but then finish with ruby red grapefruit and a subtle pepper.
Mouthfeel is warming from the alcohol and creamy and lively from the carbonation. The wood leaves a bittering dryness in the back end.
Very drinkable and very enjoyable. I'll try this one with some good strong cheese the next time I find it. I really appreciate it when brewers experiment with their beers and age them in different wood casks. Bravo!

This bitch pours with an explosive and commanding off-white head. It takes some time for the head to settle down to a healthy 3/8 of an inch where it remains for most of the duration of consumption.
The bitch is the color of dried apricots and is slightly cloudy. If you hold your glass up towards a bright light you can just make out tiny sediment specs.
The label says, "Calvados Casks 2003." I guess this means that its two years old. I think it could use two more.
The nose is almost complicated. I can make out rich fruits just below the surface. I also sense some raison and vanilla.
The taste doesnt excite me very much. The flavors seem muddled and undefined. I think this would improve from aging.
The mouthfeel of this bitch on the other hand really gets me going. Playfully, the bubbles attack the tip of ones tongue with a fervent effervescence. Simultaneously, the alcohol warms the roof of the mouth and back of the tongue. Drinking this beer is like having a party in your mouth.
My overall impression is that this beer needs time. Many might argue with me but personally I would rather not wait, particularly at $5.50 a bottle. I think there are plenty of other triples out there for far less money and that are much better straight from the shelf.

Hazy copper orange pour with a wispy white bubbly head on top that becomes a quick ring around the top of the brew. Aromas of sweet, bready malts mixing with fruit and yeast esters. Rich apple brandy and spice. Hints of wood tannins and some vanilla that sneaks in as well. Bright and vibrant, everything plays together nicely.
First sip brings sweet and spicy bready malts engulfed by a wall of fruit flavors that are big on apple brandy. Yeast esters mingle in with wood tannins. Calvados and spice lingers on.
Quite dry overall with a definite kick of heat on the finish.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth with a bit of a slickness. For the abv this one is a sipper and a good nightcap. Its drinking good right now and I am glad I popped the cap since I've been hanging onto it for awhile. Regular Dulle Teve is damn good, but hopefully they will age it again sometime as well.

Pours a two finger head of large bubble foam that quickly subsides to a more manageable half finger of dense foam. leaves sheets of lace. The body is a hazy light mahogany color with orange hues. Smells of tart fruit, a bit of sawdust and some other mysterious funk. The flavor is sweet light malt upfront which gives way to a more tangy finish. There is a slight green apple tartness that picks up toward the end, but it is not overpowering or as substantial as the nose led me to believe it would be. There is also a fleet of subtle spices that defy identification, although pepper is among their numbers for sure. A decent bitterness comes through. Lean bodied. Smooth mouthfeel.
This is an ale that took well to aging. Unlike some other aged Brett bombs, Ive sampled, this little mad bitch has a bit of tartness that may or may not be Brett induced, but either way complments the beer rather than overpowers it. A difficult feat. The wood is not overdone either and again contributes to the complexity and is only identifiable if you consciously seek it out. One of the most masterfully aged ales Ive had.

Pour: auburn/orange under several fingers of white foam that fades to a skim.
Nose: brown sugar/caramel apple from the calvados aging over standard fruity tripel esters and dry spicy yeast.
Taste: sweet apple skins up front, followed by a souring brandy and burning alcohol that dries it out substantially.
Feel: slick and airy, tickling carb flattens out a bit as it warms.
Drinkability/Overall: a unique experiment, but comes off just a little too boozy and dry in the end.

This is a special one, harkening back to one of the first local BA tasting events I can remember. Six years seemed long enough for this one, decided to pull it from the cellar tonight.
Rocky foam, bone white, on a dull orange body. The Oerbier glass is soon laced with spots of foam. Each swirl rekindles it, but then slowly breaks like clouds dissipating. Musty, fruity aroma, it's begun to show it's age a little. Some apple juice, apricot jam, sugar cookies, and cellar must. Rich, strong, still somewhat boozy after all these years. Fruity and bitter...jammy, and warm like calvados should be. This is one untamable beast. Long dry finish with apples simmering in a spiced liqueur. Rich and savory despite the warmth of the brandy barrel. A sipper for sure, after a few swirls the excess carbonation fades. Not sure that this will improve with more time, or ever lose it's alcohol edge, but it was a tasty experiment and worth the wait.

Aroma is spicy and sharp on the nostrils. Some fruit notes play in the background. Orange body with a thin white head. Fore is thinnish and spicy tasting. Muted pear notes, huge calvados notes, Some mildly bitter citrus peel notes are tingly on the tongue. Low malt presence is mostly caramel accented. Just wasnt getting his. nothing really stood out for me other than the spicy/tingly citrus asspects and while the range and intensity was decent that overall feel was a bit thinnish for the style. Obviosuly a solid beer, but not a great one to me.

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden yellow color ale with a huge foamy white head with great retention. Aroma of apple is quite dominant and weirdly enough reminiscent enough of ice cider; alcohol was not that overly apparent as I would have expected from reading ratings for this beer. Taste is also dominated by the apple component from the Calvados but again very reminiscent of ice cider and was very much enjoyable. Body was above average and alcohol while being evident was not providing a burning-type sensation, which I often dislike. Definitely will be seeking more of this in the future.

Great off-white head has delicate lacing and covers completely the yellow to golden hue. Big yeasty nose, liquorous and strong. Fluffy sawdust woodiness, big apple pie flavors. Also strong and vaporous in mouth, tasty, dry, apple peel reminiscent as well as nice orange and flowers hints, but too hot and not all that complex. Full carbonation, medium bodied. I fear dulle teve was not the best beer for such experiments..

Appears a hazy, orange toned gold with a fluffy white head that refuses to yield. Tons of spotty lacing left all around the glass.
Smell is of funkadelic oak, tart apples, mild horseblanket, vanilla cream, lemony citrus jumping out with obvious infection not quite as big as Rodenbach but there enough to raise your eyebrows and take heed. It's really addictive with the sweetness melding together with tartness.
The taste is of the mentioned aromas with an addictively sweet & tart brew backed up with gentle amounts of sugary caramel, along with some yummy berries. Delicious.
Mouthfeel is bold with vinous notes, tart brett, obvious alcohol, and a dryness in the swallow.

"Special Reserva Aged In Calvados Casks 2003"...
Appearance is a hazy and murky deep golden color with an impressive foamy head... Sediment visible at the bottom of the bottle, which apparently was produced some five years ago...
Aroma was replete with alcohol, lemons, lime, tangerines, and florals...
The five years that have elapsed since this beer was brewed have added a distinct richness and oak characteristic... The alcohol is certainly noticeable, as are the powerful oak-aged, floral and fruit characteristics which completely dominate this brew... Very spicy, rich, and complex with an intricate blend of interwoven flavors...
Rich, creamy mouthfeel...
Drinkability took a hit due to the hefty alcohol percentage and strong flavors found in this one...
Good stuff, although I must admit that I prefer the original Dulle Teve over this aged one...

Big thanks to hopdog for this bottle. 2003 version drank in 2008. Pours a clear orange color with some reddish tint. A large white head that goes down a bit. The aroma is very nice; loads of yeast, apples and citrus notes, some wood, and a hint of sourness. The flavor is very nice; not as sweet as the original, this version is more fruity and has lots of yeast. A large barrel aged character, and a strong alcohol presence. Pretty mellow though, the five years aging, plus two in the barrel will do that. A lot of apple cider flavors here, some sweet sugary notes too, but not too much. Very nice.

vivacious pour, yellow-to-orange and bubbly with a soapy yet thick head on top. aroma strikes me off guard with a big, fruity pink wine blast where butter is expected. somewhat floral as well, with a strawberry and a kiwi taking 1st and 2nd in the fruit lottery. flavor is bizarre and unique.. very messy in terms of architecture. begins with a nice alcohol-soaked piece of leather, a bit of buttered popcorn. continues to explode with apples, strawberries, and an out-of-control rubbing alcohol sting. something moldy in here as well, somewhat grassy in the finish. in the benefit of this beer, it eclipses beers like prophecy in its ability to manipulate the tripel into a different monster. on the negative side, it is a complete mess and needs time. this beer will mellow over time into something nice.. like a fruit liqueur. for now, something interesting to sip and ponder.. give it a few years it will be great. this is like the 1995 tech stock that requires faith and quick thinking.. buy it now and you will be rich in beer come 2010.

11.2oz purchased at Bello Vino in Ann Arbor and poured into a tulip. The cap has "Bottl 2005" inkjetted on it.
Light copper that is slightly hazed under a few centimeters of beady white that slowly falls to a thin layer.
Yeasty notes of dark tropical fruits that have been left in an old cellar. A bit chalky with some sweetness. No alcohol aromas detected. After a few sips I poured in the last ounce and the lees added a nice clove to bubblegum aroma
Sharp and fruity upfront with some suggestions of green apples. Distinct tartness cuts through in the middle and allows the carbonation to bubble up. A bit of sour earth towards the end. Tart finish with some alcoholic pepper without much heat. Much more sour fruit flavor when the lees were added.
The mouth suffers from what seems to be a common problem with bigger Triples: too much puckering tartness. If it wasn't so acidicly tart this would be a much better beer. This also causes it to lose drinkability points. Not quite worth the $6, IMHO.

Wet, crackling noise from this peach/gold liquid underneath a lumpy sheet of white. Distinct ripe sweet apple fragrance. Brown sugar, cream, crabapples, cranberries, sour peaches, stony dry minerals and paper thin pie crust aromas wrap around impressions of apple seeds and other fruit pits, mashed and bitter. Bold strawberry liqueur textures and flavors. Bitter cherry pits, mandarine orange, jellied pineapple, nutmeg and cumin flavors. Quite alcoholic and slippery, like a bubbly Pineau de Charentes/orange/mimosa. Tangy, delicious fruit-salad and spice flavored dessert beer.

Bright amber orange, fierce carbonation that supports the pillowy white head. Fucking amazing nose: Tart apples, strawberry candy, both perfumy all the way, and some musty wood. Youve got to be kidding me. This was a tripel?! The transformation from the regular Mad Bitch to this is mind blowing. Such an intoxicatingly elegant aroma. On first sip, ahh, theres the tripel, albeit a very lean tripel. Some tropical frutiness, spice, and a tartness that had to have been picked up from the calvados casks. Some wet dirt, too. Hmm...Peppery alcohol couples with prickly carbonation and hops (yes, hops in a two year old barrel aged Belgian tripel!!!) counters what little sweetness there is. Some yeasty cookie dough in the aftertaste, especially as it warms up. I cant wait for this to age. Im stashing as much of this as I can get my hands on! Not too long, though. I can see this falling apart quickly. Anyway, Im in love.

11.2 oz bottle
Poured right down the center of my snifter, rigorously but just gentle enough not to disturb the 1/4 inch of yeast at the bottom of the bottle. The '03 DT Reserva pours a dirty orange yellow color with a small peach colored head, lots of stick-age after all of these years. Super funk on the nose, wow, orange skin and lemon tartness, stale, dry hops are detectable, wet wood, herbal tea and bitterness, alcohol, mint leaves and malt. Still very bright with carbonation, causing this beer to really transform mid-palate, faded notes of calvados soaked wood, sweet malts and sour lemon tartness. This is a sipper for sure, damn acidic but truely a wonderful beer. I think this is due for another run...

This beer poured a very murky yellow amber color and formed a off white bubbly head that coated the glass with lace as it subsided. A medium amount of carbonation and a heavy amount of sediment and particles is present. An aroma of malt, candy, molasses, and plum. It had a flavor of malt, candy, chocolate and elements that whisper at the edge, but don't present much more character to the beer. It has a medium body and the finish is slightly astrigent, yet sweet.

Pours a honey gold, topped with a blooming white head, crowning out of the tulip goblet. Slightly hazy. Amazingly, the head holds about a centimeter thick almost all the way through. Nice spotty lace. Big, sweet aroma. Sugary, dominated by honey, caramel and booze. White wine (is that the calvados?) and plenty of tropical, Fruity Pebbles-like esters. A little funky sourness, kinda like an oud bruin. The flavor features a prominent barrel aged quality, heavy on the vanilla-ish oak and alcohol, livened up by strong, fizzy carbonation. Lots of honeyed sweetness, sugary up front, though strangely changing to a mild funky sourness in the finish. Fruit everywhere. Plantain, maraschino cherry, green apple, you name it. White wine character in the finish, a faint touch of spicy belgian yeast, kinda peppery. Ends off fairly dry, with a generous helping of booze. So much higher alcohol I feel like coughing after each sip. If I were to sip on some mineral spirits, this is what I expect it'd be like. Medium bodied, feeling kinda slick despite the dry finish and champagne carbonation. Not quite as belgiany or tripel-ish as I'd hoped. The barrel aging really took this one over, and it feels a little worse for the wear, somewhat oxodized, what with the pronounced honey and supercharged, aged carbonation. Not bad, enjoyable in its peculiar way, but not something I'd revisit. A bit too esoteric for me.

Like brandy or sherry, this one packs a sharp alcohol punch--not just in the ABV, but in the taste as well. There's a sour apple finish that's blended with tastes of tart fruit. The overall effect is warming and soul-fortifying. The essence of a sipping beer. I could imagine drinking this by a fire.
I recommend the Mad Bitch Reserve (preferring it to the regular Mad Bitch), but it's not a beer for your regular rotation. Sharing it with a friend would be a good idea, since drinking an entire bottle is a bit of a chore.

As soon as I pop the cap the beer starts to foam out of the bottle. The beer pours with a frothy, light tan, three finger thick head. The beer is a hazy copper color that has lots of carbonation dancing up from the bottom of my glass. The aroma is an interesting mix of sharp fruit notes (like green apple, and pear) and subtle woody oak notes (with a bit of buttery oak notes). I'll admit that I like the fresh, spicy, sharp and fruity aroma of the regular version a bit better.
The beer has a nice fruity note to it up front that is reminiscent of pears especially and a bit of green apples and tart plums. The oak begins to make itself know in the middle and lingers through to the end of a draught. The oak is fairly subtle, and only plays a complimentary role; it is predominantly woody, slightly tannic, with a hint of buttery-oak, and perhaps even a hint of vanilla. The spicy notes are subdued by the oak notes, though in all fairness a lot of the spice notes have probably just been muted over the aging time as well. This beer is pretty tasty, definitely enjoyable, but just not nearly the beer that the regular version is.

11.2 ounce bottle purchased from Stuffed Sandwich a few years ago for about twelve dollars, has been in the cellar ever since, also consumed on 2/25/09, reviewed from notes, poured into my Dogfish Head snifter, I figured I would drink this the same night as the Grand Reserva from De Struise since both of these beers were aged for two years in Calvados barrels, the color of this brew is a vibrant orange with some amber mixed in, small 1/4 inch bubbly white head that did not stick around very long at all, smell consists of lots of sugar, mild tarty scents, ripe fruit, sweet yeast, mild spice, wood, bready malt, and honey, flavor was similar to the aroma with more fruit up front that you might expect, middle is mostly fruits and candy-like sugar, finish is slightly warming with more sweetness and a bit of oak, once it warms there is lots of apple and sugar, like the little tart bite in the finish, moutfeel is sweet, slightly hot and tart, even dry at times, medium bodied, moderate level of carbonation, could drink the bottle which I did and a few more ounces, sweetness could get heavy eventually, booze are still out in the open and not quite hidden, pretty smooth though overall, this is drinking better than the first time I had it after five to six years of age, it has held up well probably because of the eleven percent to thirteen percent ABV and complexity of malt and sugars, supposedly the alcohol content varied by bottles, will drink again hopefully, recommended
