Got this one for Christmas from my brother Andy. Thanks. Poured into a tulip. This one pours a muddy brown color with three fingers of lasting creamy looking beige head. It eventually settles down a bit leaving some really thick soapy lace.

Not much to smell here. The aroma is faint but it's a pretty nice sour raspberry aroma with bit of cocoa nibs in the background. It's faint but very pleasent. Just a touch of tartness in the finish of ths with a supporting body to rasperries, cocoa and nuts. Seems to be a lot going on but this is really seeming to be spot on.

Creamy and full on the body. Nice subtle carbonation. Maybe I'm being bias because I"ve always loved this brewery. Maybe it's also because the last beer I had tonight was terrible but this is really incredible. Good flavors and just a kiss of sour to really pull this one together.

330 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Pours with a surprisingly large off white head. Thick collar. Wispy surface.

Smell - Malty and acidic. Acetic. Cherry and red wine aromas.

Taste - Caramel malt. Acetic sourness. Dry. Oaky. Lots of vanilla and no sweetness.

Mouthfeel - Boozy. Oaky. Dry. A huge sour. Still with full carbonation.

Overall - The slighest oxidation has set in. Otherwise this is just as good as it was when I first had it. It should be noted that this was my first sour. I was blown away then.

Poured from a 11.2 oz bottle into a tulip.

This is an aggressively carbonated beer. A large, off-white sea foam froth forms over a caramel amber beer.

The nose is tart, with nice cherry notes. There is some oak, vanilla, and vinegar in the back.

The flavor mostly follows the nose. It is simple, but nice. Tart cherries,

The mouthfeel is really fizzy and bubbly. Even without a full body, it held the 13% ABV really nicely. It was tart and slightly acetic, but not incredibly sour.

This is a nice Flemish sour.

One of my first De Dolle's, and it happens to be a 13% monster Flanders Red...

Appearance. a rosy red hue that is surprisingly clear. Surprising amount of head that sticks around and laces well.

Smell: Lots of light and medium colored fruits. Spicy and sugary. Pepper and molasses. Put your nose well into the glass and you'll get other darker fruits and hints of leather and funky hay.

Taste: Pretty much as advertised: This is a souped up Flanders, with way more alcohol and flavor than you might be used to. Fruit up front, with a juicy, cherry middle, quite sour mid swallow... Nice oak tannin on the finish. Finish is long and enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: Quite highly carbonated, but that's not going to be whats slowing you down here, this is a sipper. Spend a good half hour or more with this little bottle.

Overall: Enjoyable, but not as drinkable and sociable as something like a Rodenbach Grand Cru.

Cap is stamped Bottled Feb 2010.

A - Dark garnet, two fingers off white head that keeps getting bigger, massive amount of carbonation bubbles, good lacing.

S - Raspberry, strawberry, yeast, oak; as it warms you get aromas of raisons, figs, candi sugar, and hints of caramel.

T - Raspberry, strawberry, brown sugar, tart, oak, yeast, molasses, green apple.

M - Medium-full bodied, moderate-high carbonation, dry finish.

O - I had Duchesse De Bourgogne recently and this is like a darker/mellower vesion of that. Great beer.

This beer pours a dark mahogany color with a wisp of head. The aroma is bursting with sweet candy fruit. The flavor has more that complex sweet fruit, mixed in with hard candy--almost like a tootsie pop. Rich in character and complex in body, the beer is great for digestion following a heavy meal. The alcohol is skillfully hidden its complexities.
