Shared a bottle of this with a couple of friends. Special Reserva poured a reddish-brown with a thin head. Its` nose contains dried fruits, tartness, oak and grass. So far, a bit more interesting to me than some others I have tried from the style. Sipping on it and I taste cherries, vinegar, raisins, sweetness and some yeast. It is a somewhat acidic mouthfeel, with a dry, oaky finish. All in all, a damn tasty beer. Quite a bit more interesting and pleasing than other oud bruins out there.

Tasted from a 33 cl bottle at Bier Circus on Brussels.

A - A beautiful beer. Dark brown with ruby highlights. Cream-colored head is initially thick and creamy. It fades to a thin layer along with large bubbles around the glass. Good lacing.

S - Phenomenal aroma! Oak, tobacco (mixed together like the wood of a used cigar box), sweet cherries and coffee in the background. This is intensely complex.

T - Flavors are not as well-rounded as the aromas. Cherries and oak up front, some malt breadiness fights with a sharp vinegar-like note in the mid- to late-palate. Tobacco and smoke are present in the dry finish.

M - Light to medium body. Low carbonation. Puckering astringency in the finish. Alcohol is well-hidden.

O - Incredible aroma and appearance are not quite backed up by the flavors. Still, this is a world-class beer.

Picked up at Hill Farmstead's retail shop at some point early last year. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a crystal clear ruddy garnet hue with a nice half a finger off white super light tan creamy head that faded to leave a thin blanket and light side lacing. Considering the ABV, this is quite impressive.

S - Lots of cherries and vanilla. Some light booze. Its crazy how much aroma pops in this. Lots of big, bold cherry orchard notes and barrel vanilla tones. This is an incredibly amped up Flanders.

T - Taste is excellent, my only complaint is the hint of booze, but even that is to be understood. Lots of cherries, vanilla, barrel notes. What on earth...lightly funky, nice vinegar. So much tannin...this is a 13% oud bruin?! Whaaaat!

M - Lots of carbonation here, shocking amount. This is 13%?! More like 5%! Absolutely crazy.

O - Overall, I almost regret cracking into this one. Its so damn good. Almost perfectly executed. Got to find some bottles of some sort of vintage and age em. This stuff is insane.

Poured into a tulip. Big thanks to SteveFinny for this. A 13% oud bruin, wtf?

4.5 A: Hazed deep plum color. Two fingers of frothy/pillowy beige head. Retention is very good, especially for the ABV and a big ring of lacing is left.

4.5 S: Huge cherry aroma. Tart and lightly acetic. Sweet, yet funky. Apple orchard, oak, vanilla, and berries. I'm amazed at how well this is hiding the booze. That in itself is a feat. This is fairly simple for the style, but it smells so good that I can't deny it a stellar score.

4.5 T: Like this nose, this has a big intensity and the flavors mesh so well. Cherries and berries are the highlight. So much flavor that it's like I'm drinking a cherry cider or something. Moderate tartness and again, lightly acetic. Vanilla and oak next. The funk comes out to play offering rotting wood, apple orchard, wet grass, and some mustiness. The booze is more apparent in the taste, but it's still well hidden. A bit of tannins from the barrel. Very good.

4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation, which is lightly spritzy and a bit stingy. Not particularly creamy, but it works and works well.

4.0 D: Very tasty beer. I can't believe I'm drinking an oud bruin this big. The flavors sure reflect that. Well done.

Poured a silky 1" beige head of medium life. The masstone looks like brown tea but held to the light it's actually a very deep amber. Smells sour and of dried fruit. The taste mirrors the smell and the fruit is strong enough a little pesky fruit fly in the house fell instantly in love with my beer. Taste also has burnt sugar and molasses. And although it's sour, which doesn't always agree with me, it's not a pickle juice sour and I enjoyed this one. Slight acidic zing to the finish. Nice beer.

A-

33cl into a tulip. Pours a dark walnut, appears nearly flat, tiny froth, little lacing.

Aroma is tart dark cherries over rotting dark fruits. Complexity encourages repeated sniffs.

Tart and dry, minor long lived bitter aftertaste. Vinous qualities dominate, tannin notes. Alcohol as a flavor component is fully integrated. Easy to imagine the superb strong dark sitting under this all. Extracted it seems it would be more intense than Oerbier. Medium bodied mouthfeel.
warms well in both taste and mouthfeel
cheers

An amazing beer. Fantastic apperance for an oud bruin. Fair lacing, initially dense head, hangs around a long time, really nice transparent deep brown. One of the nicest looking oud bruins. Vinous, woody, tart, but strong malt components as well. Vinegar married to molasses and brown sugar. However these qualities are faint and one must look for them. The taste is good. Tart and tangy but not overly acedic. Fairly malt oriented. Good winey notes. No way to really detect the high alcohol percentage. Fairly dry but has a decent chocolate finish. Dynamite ale.

Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into a Bruery tulip.

A: Pours a nice dark ruby red color. 1 finger of off white head with nice tight bubbles and decent retention.

S: Lots of red wine notes up front. Some oak, cherries, yeasty funk and some dark fruit. Nice and complex yet balanced.

T: I'm getting a nice balance of grape, sour cherry, yeast and oak. Finish is tart and dry. Some lingering tartness and oak as well. Alcohol is present but not overwhelming.

M: Mouthfeel is spot on here. Just the right amount of body and carbonation for the style. It's what I hoped for and expected.

Overall I am very impressed with this beer and can't wait to see how this one evolves over time.

30th Birthday Party
Thanks to JealousChalice for sharing this

App- A cough syrup looking red with some faint browns and ambers mixed in. Had a almost non-existant head except for a couple bubbles. Fell to a thick looking beer.

Smell- Another great beer from De Dolle. So ripe and lush on the nose. Had a ton of cherry and oak and then melds into this yeasty tannic forward sour note.

Taste- The flavors on this were just so lush and layered. Amazing notes of the yeasty oak intermingle with all the cherry and tart notes.

Mouth- A great mix as it drank. A little bit of a light body and then would aliven to a rich medium but all the while keeping this full lush carbonation.

Drink- A great way to start my 30th bday party. Thanks Chris. Great beer.

A: Pours a clear semi-opaque dark garnet red in color with some light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall creamy beige head that reduces to a thin film with a much thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant lacing is observed.

S: Light aromas of sour cherries, oak, and just the lightest presence of vinous notes.

T: There are strong flavors of cherries with a light presence of oak in addition to the mild amounts of sourness and funkiness. Just a hint of vinous notes as well.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Slightly dry in the finish.

O: This beer is delicious and the high ABV is extremely well hidden. This beer is easy to drink but one that you should sip. There is a nice complexity to the flavor.
