A: Dark brown unfiltered with a reddish tinge, 4 fingers of tan fluffy head, hard to see any carbonation.

S: Dark fruits, floral figs and raisins, and cherries.

T: Awesome balance of dark fruits figs raisins and cherries.

M: Thick, well rounded body that comes and goes wanting another sip. Highly carbonated.

O: This beer is delicious and worthy of tasting. Lonely planet is often wrong but not on this one. Reminds me of Rochefort 8 or 10, but unique in itself. Got in Bruges near beer wall store ‘B2B’, drank Dec 7th, 2013 in Brussels.

(no freshness date - poured into a balloon)

A: large, gushing foam - wells up quickly, gradually settles out... moderately hazy grape red hue to the liquid... poured most of it into the glass, last little bit was incredibly murky, grey-ish... keeps a steady, active cap, however, pretty much no lacing

S: malty-sweet raspberry and apple, mild wild spice in the background... vague lipstick quality, touch of caramelized wood... overall, moderately vibrant and inviting aromas

T: dark candi sugar, malty red ale similar to many Belgian noel beers, ... little hops... but perhaps a faint toasted character - predominantly a showcase for spicy, dark fruit (berry, cidery apple) yeast flavors... most of the bitterness seems alcohol/yeast-derived... bit of a nuttiness late in the aftertaste

M: expanding burst of gas outside, though with a lighter, compact round body on the interior... pretty dang dry in the finish with a invigorating, peppery booze/phenolic tingle left on the palate

O: like a Belgian noel beer with an enhanced phenolic intensity, wild culture influence... De Dolle's ales have this strange balance, teetering on the edge of disaster; electric, dynamic fruity yeast character just saving many of their products

Haven't had this beer in a long time and it's nice to revisit it. The name translates to strong and wet which certaintly is true, but this beer is so much more than that. The aroma is complex suggesting dried fruits such as figs and raisins along with a very tawny character remiscent of port wine. There's even a hint of smoke. This smooth malt and sugar bomb has a tawny port character that carries through the taste of this beer along with some marzipan sweetness and a boozy finish. This is a beer I should have been drinking all winter. I may have to go back and get some more.
