Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Colombus and Amarillo hops, the latter imparting some orange taste a good hop mix. A bit of odd sweetness however. Boozy, is it 9%? Decent drinkability.Average mouthfeel, could be some caramel instead of sugary. Median carbonation.

Draft: Poured a deep copper color ale with a nice foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of piney and citrus notes are quiet intense and enjoyable. Taste is also a very good mix between some piney and citrus hops with a solid caramel malt backbone and a bitter finish. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Well brewed with intense hoppy notes veering on the floral side instead of pure bitterness.

Thanks to hoppypocket for this extra.

Poured from a 750ml. bottle, bottled Aug. 31 2011.

Appearance: A very creamy head, 3-4 fingers strong with long lasting power. Body is a gorgeous hazy orange.

Smell: Reserved at first but really opens up as it warms. Hops, grapefruit, orange pulp, a bit of oak and a mix of sweet & bitter.

Taste: Spicy, citrus, burnt sugar. A bit sweet actually which overpowers the bitterness. Mellows as it warms. Aftertaste of grapefruit rind is nice.

Mouthfeel: Low on the bitterness, surprisingly smooth and very well balanced.

Overall: The alcohol is not felt at all. A nice mesh of sweetness and spices. Would have liked more lasting bitterness but i was still pleased with this one.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle in a 3-monts beer glass

A: Pours a nice deep golden/orange color.

S: Ok nose, with notes of oranges, and grapefruit. This isn't as hoppy as I was expecting for an Imperial IPA.

T: Ok, this is totally sweet. I really hate this kind of IPA, with a lot of residual sugar. And the alcohol is overpowering too, the 10% alc. is really taking the lead. Malts also have the main role, with hops being masked. It's like a sweet pink lemonade, or sweet pink grapefruit juice. It was really hard to drink the whole bottle, and we were 3 sharing it.

O: One of the wort Imperial IPA I've tried yet, at a pretty high price (12$ a bottle). I'd never buy it again, and I'll try to trade the remaining one to someone. Definetely not drinking this again, life is too short ; )

Had this on tap at the brewpub. The menu said it has 100 IBUs... I loves me some hops so I was really looking forward to this one.

The smell of the hops is very prominent, so far so good. I could taste all the hoppy goodness for a split second until the sweetness took over. To be fair, the menu did warn me about the sweetness, but I wasn`t prepared for how sweet it would be. By the end of the glass I couldn`t really enjoy the beer anymore, it was was just too sickly sweet.

It`s a real shame, because I can taste the potential for a very good beer, but the sweetness needs to be toned down a lot.

Now 10% abv, and judging by the reviews, I think this has really evolved.

Golden bronze with a white head, good retention, really great lace.

A tropical aroma of papaya and mango, candied pineapple, marmalade and toffee. Not overpowering, but certainly enticing.

Papaya and mango really come through in the flavour as well, solid bitterness, but not the least bit harsh. Alcohol is certainly warming. Biscuit, marmalade and toffee round out the flavour. There's a little resin from the hops, but it's not the pine and grapefruit rind that's often found in this style.

Well-attenuated, moderate body is extremely smooth with a light hop acidity. Perfect.

Really well crafted. Dangerously drinkable.

Huge thanks to cfrancis... I was pleasantly surprised by this one.

A: Very hazy golden color. Huge puffy cream white head with very good retention and decent lacing.

S: First thing I notice is that candi sugar type of thing as well as the rose water smell that reminds me of the Belgian IPA of Boquebiere. Not a good thing, at all... The rest is decent. Obvious simcoe hops that brings orange zest, lemon juice and some light pine. Some malty sweetness in the back.

T: Taste is nowhere as strong as what I expected for 100 IBU (the beer is almost 2 months old though). Candi sugar/rose water combo is thankfully not as strong as in the smell. Orange zest and lime juice are still there, but not as strong as expected. Malty sweetness again.

M: Creamy and lightly sticky, like a good IPA should be like.

O: Decent beer enough from a micro I didn't know much about. Nothing out of this world good, but decent IPA, which is a rare sight in Quebec.

So... Im desapointed

I had a lot of expectations.

At first, the head is has its supposed to be.

The nose... nothing... So you wait a little because you think the beer is to cold then... Nothing.

Taste: as a hophead, you think that an iipa will be full of bitterness and flavour. The, the first sip give you some of each. Its certenly is americain hop but its near an apa not an iipa.

Overall, for the Price, there are 1000s of apa, aipa and iipa on the market. Before to try that one, wait until Youre bored.

Pint at the brewpub. From notes.

A - Poured a dark orange with medium carbonation. One finger off white head with insane lacing left behind in thick rings with a film of head retention.

S - Rich prickly pineapple, pine and grapefruit. Proper and very inviting.

T - Really strong pineapple, mango, some rich malt backbone character with caramel or bread as well.

M - Good carbonation and a medium body but lacking in the bitterness department. Possibly more sweet than expected.

O/D - Very drinkable with no alcohol obvious. Tasty and pretty standard for the style. Good to have a fresh IIPA available.

Brasseries des Temps DIPA
Big bottle from phyl21ca in CanBIF 2012. Poured into a tulip at ~6 C. Undated bottle, though there is a place for the date.
A: Clear copper with a great fluffy white head that doesn't drop fully and laces nicely.
S: Grassy. A hint of floral hops but very subdued. Just not enough of a hop hit for the style.
T: Clean yeast profile in the body with minimal malt character. The malt that is there sweet with a hint of caramel and lots of honey. Reminiscent of a Hopslam without the hop profile. Were there hops in this beer once?  Hard to tell.
M: Surprisingly low bitterness for the style though it was very well fermented with minimal alcohol of note for the purported 10%. Moderate carbonation.
O: I wonder what is happening with the hoppy styles in Québec. Seriously are the beers I have old or are they merely poorly crafted. I love hops, but if this is a hoppy beer, then Québec truly is a distinct society.

Aroma is a little off, very earthy. Not overly bitter for a 100 IBU beer. Earthiness is gone until the aftertaste. Bitterness does linger well, but something is wrong with this one as it has a bottling date of Aug. 31, 2011. Too bad as this seems like a great beer, the alcohol is well hidden.

Hazy copper colored brew. Fluffy white heady head with thin lacing.

A punch of aroma right up front, perfectly balanced caramel malts swimming in layers of citrus and floral hops. Bright yet warming.

Crisp hop bitterness with the first sip quickly followed by a rush of luscious caramel malt over the tongue. Hops quickly take the lead again with some pine-like resin flavors balancing out the malt sweetness. Body is thick and full but finishes dry with a lingering hop flavor to cleanup the aftertaste.

The Québécois can do an IIPA just as well as any American brewery I've sampled from. The balance between the warm, sweet malt body and the bright pungent hops is perfect. This bottle quickly disappeared, I really hope I don't have to drive to Canada to find this again.
