I just started homebrewing and I really couldn't have done it without the help of Chandler and Jessie. They are very down to earth, friendly, and oh so knowledgeable. They really run an amazing shop. I brought in my first beer to share and received great feedback on it. Having this store close to me has really helped me go from someone who thought about trying to homebrew to someone who might be addicted to it now.

I have and will continue to recommend this shop to friends, because I know that they will be taken care of.

Was up in Providence visiting friends and was looking for something to do during the day. I happened to find the store online, and saw they were doing a big parti-gyle brew that day. Cruised on over, got there just as they were dough-ing in (140# of grain!), hung out for a few hours shootin the sh!t and brewing a belgian strong. They had a good selection of gear and grain in stock, and plenty of good cheer and advice. Next time I am up there, I will be visiting Chandler again. I have heard the 4th of July party is not to be missed.

There is an earthiness and general Bohemian sensibility that pervades the Basement Brewhaus. If it's your first visit, embrace this, don't let it put you off because the owners are genuine, and have no pretensions about themselves or their store.

They stock enough of everything you need to knock out most BJCP styles, and are very helpful in advising you on hops substitutes, if they don't have want you want on hand. The range of standard yeasts is adequate, and fresh, for most styles, but call ahead if you need them to get the less common strains.

Overall, a good place for Providence-area home brewers to get what they need, and talk with knowledgeable folks.

I like the people that own this place. The DIY, punk, and metalhead types are under represented in the home brew comm. given the numbers who actually participate.

The store is always nice and orderly, with a big-ish library to peruse for ideas. I'm sometimes at a loss on specialty malts but its usually because i'm looking for a a unique british malt that isnt used too often.

Also, though irrelevant to their review score, i would like to see them have recycled brewing equipment. Meaning that when one's home brewery expands (inevitable), they can buy back lovingly used equipment for resale. That would be sweeet.

Stopped by over the weekend while I was in town to pick up some grain. Was pretty easy to get to, right off the highway. Not a ton of street parking, but wasn't an issue. They were doing a co-op brewing session while I was there which looked pretty cool (once a month or so I guess folks can show up and do an all grain brew with the owner, chipping in for materials). A young woman whose name I can't remember was very helpful in helping me find everything I needed. They had a decent selection of grains and just about all the equipment you could need. Prices were about average.

I've finally decided to start brewing my own beer. Before I went here I was under the impression that this would be an expensive and difficult process. Even after reading the brew your own beer tutorial here on BA I figured there was serious money involved. I could not have been more wrong. The people there (I'm not sure if they were the owners or not) were more than happy to take me through and show me equipment and ingredients and explain the process and answer all the dumb questions I had. I was surprised how affordable and easy it is. I'm so comfortable and excited now and ready to brew.

Basement BrewHaus is under new ownership. The new owner is much more friendly and reaching out to the homebrew community through events like Thirsty Thursdays which they show a beer related movie in their beer garden and you can hang out sample other homebrewers beer. I think it's unfair that all the reviews on here reflect the store as is used to be. I haven't been there but heard from others it's like night and day. Don't take my word because I haven't been yet, but please disregard old reviews, visit for yourself and post some new reviews.

Excellent selection, many many items in stock and priced reasonably. EXCELLENT hop selection, considering the current hop climate. the owner seemed a bit put off with my malt needs and suggested that next time to call ahead, but when I saw that he hand grinds his malt (no power drill) I could understand why. Not the best shop for an all grain brewer as far as questions/advice, but fine for a quick supply pick up. Owner gave me some bumper stickers and beer posters, which was cool, everyone loves a little swag. I will definitely be returning.

9 Months Later... I returned to Basement Brewhaus (formerly basement brewhah) Today, and I have to say the new management/owners have taken the store from good to great, friendly, knowledgeable, and serious about home brewing. A definite place to visit. Great job Chandler!

I stopped by on a recent trip to Providence. I was looking for a beer kit and they had virtually every True Brew kit available. I was going to buy the brown ale kit that I had been looking for at my local store in NJ but after talking to the owner I ended up buying one of his own pre-packages kits. Selection of wine kits was good as well. Good selection of equipment. Equipment wasn't displayed well but the store is small. Although I not into all-grain brewing (at least not yet), there was plenty of grain available. Owner was very friendly and helpful. Prices were better than in NJ.

I was given a homebrewing kit for Christmas last year and was excited to brew a second batch. I walked into the easy to get to Basement Brew-ha near downtown Providence, with all the excitement that comes with a freshmen brewer. After doing some looking around, I had a few questions for the guy working there (I assume the owner) who seemed not only underwhelmed with my enthusiasm, but unwilling to help me what-so-ever. I won't go back, and frankly, I'd suggest you don't ether unless you make it a quick visit.
