Thank goodness my homebrewed Belgian beers make a nice impression on some nice Belgian folks with whom we do business. A lovely gift straight from the motherland - sans long shipping, light, temp fluctuation, and storage. "Quite fresh" I was assured... Bingo
Big carbonation boosts a thick, lasting and creamy head and grabby, grading laces. Underneath, surprisingly clear, light-gold body is spraying up the bubbles. Overall stunning really.
Rock-candy-like sweetness hits the nose. Bready grain, everripe apple. Some powdery scent, like a whiff of children's orange aspirin. No brewing flaws of course, and no alcohol somehow.
Nice, grainy-sweet yet dry taste, reminding me (malt-wise only) of a big Czech Pils. White pepper, ripe red delicious apple skin. The sugar and spice have a short scuffle before the sweet, particularly, powdered sugar wins out. ("Everything nice" does actually). The alcohol is really what comes out and cleans everything up. A very clean alcohol, like a smidge of Grey Goose. Yeasty fruitiness is there throughout.
Creamy and fluffy on the tongue. The head feels like whipped topping! Alcohol, even while the beer is cold, cuts the tongue coating tastefully and leaves a very smooth warming all way down the pipe. This is way more drinkable than it should be, though a little more crispness to match that carbonation would have been nice. More please!

Trying this for the first time. Tasted 9 April 2014.
Pours a gorgeous hazy golden yellow. One finger of dense creamy white head, looking more like milk than foam. Great retention, awesome lacing, and a dense column of bubbles streaming up from the bottom of the glass.
Smell is bright and alive. Lovely yeasty esters with fruit (banana) and gentle spice, plus some residual sweetness in the back. Yum.
Taste has both the sweet, flavorful side and the clean, crisp side. Outstanding. Warm and fruity, a bit of sugar, a faint hint of spice, and only the tiniest touch of bitterness. Balanced, varied, and delicious. Not even a sniff of alcohol.
Feel is fabulous as well. Smooth and fairly light, with a fuzzy carbonation that spreads throughout. Keeps the flavors buzzing around.
One of the best tripels I've had, for sure. Excellent across the board. Great depth, varied flavors, and a delicate balance. Wow.
