I got the chance to try my first Tripel Karmeliet a few hours ago and I was completely blown away. Huge head (in typical Belgian fashion) with insanely long retention. Golden color and considerable carbonation (at least visually because you don't feel it when you drink the beer). The aroma is bubble-gummy and vanilla-ish. Flavor is similar and it intensifies as the liquid warms up. Mouthfeel is extremely smooth, and borders the kind of sensation that you get from nitro-treated brews. An amazing beer.

11.2oz bottle into a tulip.

A: Pours a slightly hazy straw/orange with significant, fluffy white head that recedes extremely slowly. Lacing is so-so, retention is out-of-this-world.

S: Sweetness that recalls both honey & fructose. Malty bread dough. Slightly herbaceous.

T: A true extension of the nose. A tad spicy, with maybe a touch of clove as well.

M: Dense but delicate. This particular bottle seems over-carbed.

O: Sublime.

Appearance: Pours pure gold, massive head that stays around, large amount of carbonation.

Smell: Sweet bread, grain, sweet stone & tropical fruits, zesty lemon, white wine, fantastic.

Taste: Just like the smell, zesty with carbonation, dry on the finish with lingering citrus notes, no booze to speak of at all. Decently full mouth-feel coming from the oats.

Overall: Stunning beer, very glad to have got my hands on one down here in oz.

A: slight haze; pale gold in color; 2 finger rocky white head that receded slowly to a wispy cap; OK lacing;

S: clove is predominant with citrus and banana behind it; a hint of spiciness;

T: citrusy up front with clove and banana added in at the middle; clove and banana are dominant on the finish with clove staying into the aftertaste; a little spice throughout; mild bitterness on the finish;

M: medium bodied; highly carbonated; very dry finish; hides the ABV well;

O: really tasty:

This is probably my favorite tripel that I've tried so far. AMAZING, frothy and perfect head with exceptional lacing afterwards.

Look: Gorgeous, full, with a beautiful golden coloring. Pours like a blonde ale. Beautiful head, very full look.
Smell: Very sweet, notes of yeast with a ton of citrus.
Taste: Also great, notes of yeast and a ton of banana. Really creamy, with a sweet, slightly honey taste that lingers.
Feel: Because of the full head, it's incredibly heavy and really filling because of how carbonated it is. That being said, the feel is great; full body.

All around fantastic beer, really like this one and a stand-out among tripels.

The first time (as a young man) I had this at Belgo in Camden, I remember thinking that this was the best beer ever. And then in subsequent years, I went off it.

Now I am critically reviewing it, for the first time, after many more years of tasty beverage consumption.

Firstly, I love the bottle. Great design, colours, and they even write an English translation..! How thoughtful of them.

Proper head. Duvel like.

A whirlpool has formed, wow, amazing. It has to get 4.75 for look. I am drinking in a Chimay glass, I am not sure if there is a whirlpool in an official Karmeliet one.

Aroma, amazing. Beautiful mandarins and apricots, possibly the best aroma ever from a beer before.

Taste is smooth, probably from the wheat. And the oats. Very bubbly, creamy. So bubbly that the feel is bubbleyed to an overt extent.

It's missing the flavor of competitors, such as Duvel. This has a balanced taste, though simply not as much flavor as Duvel/Chouffe/Tremens/Chimay Blanc.

Needs more fruitiness or bitterness, and less bubbyleyedness

Triple Karmeliet reviewed on the "1001" list.
It is reviewed in Roger Protz' " 300 Beers To Try Before You Die!"
Also reviewed in "Michael Jackson's Great Beers of Belgium", this awaits my review with another tasting.... which shouldn't be long.

Amazing tripel here. Massive doses of banana, baking spices, and Belgian candied sugar. The aroma on this beer persists even after the glass is emptied due to the well developed lacing. Yeast breadiness in the mid palate, somewhat like an egg white glazed challah. The head on this golden ale was huge and rocky, with even a careful pour yielding a mountain of tightly packed foam. The mouthfeel is spot on for a tripel. Sweetness balanced with crispy and abundant carbonation. There is a slight tackiness on the lips but for this style of beer I felt it was appropriate. Booze notes are present in the nose. Again, I felt commensurate with the style. Just an amazing drinking experience; anyone who wants a well balanced tripel should seek this out.

Probably the most beautiful Belgian Tripel out there. The beautiful color and smell, a massive white head and subtle, complex and balanced flavors... honey and vanilla that you will probably recognize. The champagne of Tripel ! A must have.

Blonde pour, white head of foam with larger bubbles. Carbonation present. Smell was faint, sweet, floral. taste was...I don't want to say "light" because that has the wrong connotations. It was clean, crisp... others have identified citrus notes, and Mentioned saisons...I get a little of that. Nothing over the top, no strong tastes, but very nice.

Serving Type: 330 mL Bottle

A- Hazy Pale Golden with a 2 finger white head. Decent retention and a fair amount of lacing.

S- Sweet and Fruity. Slightly lemony with a hint of spices.

T- Very similar to the aroma. Definitely a yeasty flavour to this beer typical of Belgian brews.

M- Medium but rich body. Moderate Carbonation. The bottle I bought was a bit of a gusher (likely due to it being bottle fermented).

O- An excellent Belgian Tripel that offers everything a Tripel should. Extremely easy drinking, even at an ABV over 8%.

L: Bright golden yellow, really shines in the light. Slightly hazy. Poured a massive whispey/bubbly head which settles down. Tons of carbonation apparent.
S: Smells great. First off very fruity, typical of wheat containing beers. Also a really strong grain smell which I'm quite fond of. HInts of some kind of spice.
T: Very grainy and sweet. Drinks not all that different from a wheat beer or saison, but with a somewhat subdued phenol/ester character. That is not to say its not present or preceivable, however. Quite delicious.
F: Smooth, rich, yet never heavy feeling. Carbonation is quite high, lending a crisp quality to the beer as well.
O: HIghly enjoyed this beer. Drinking it you would never imagine it was over 8% ABV, as it drinks so light. Quite frankly I'm beating myself up over having not tried this one earlier.

An outstanding tripel. Poured clear straw colored with little sediment at the bottom. Smell is malty sweet with floral overtones, prepping the senses for the deeper flavor to come. The mix of malty sweetness, flowery characters, banana, herby yeast flavors, and a bit of a bite from lite phenols is perfection. Mouthfeel compliments the flavor profile.

Hazy straw color with a massive billow of white foam which, about 2 minutes following the pour, grew to hover over the lip of the chalice. Yeast, lemon and honey on the nose. Flavor is slightly sweeter, with candi sugar, banana and bubblegum flavors. Very tasty. Super carbonated - you can actually HEAR this beer from a distance.

From a 12 oz. bottle with a best by 2/17, pours a beautiful blond, straw beer with a massive pillowy white head. Taste follows nose with floral, citrus, yeast, grain, and some booze. An excellent Tripel and an absolute pleasure to the senses.

Cloudy straw colored with a full cumulonimbus head; lots of lacing. Light appealing nose; I get wheat and florals, maybe a little lemon peel. Taste - wheat, citrus,most of which evaporates off the palate quickly. Mouth feel - crisp and dry, big carbonation, refreshing. I am amateur at Tripels, but this one makes me want to explore further. Still trying to figure out where they are hiding 8.4 ABV in this one -- drinks much lighter.

Plenty of carbonation bubbles, but no discernible head. The color is gold and brilliantly clear. Aroma of light grain, sweet oats, and sweet light Belgian candy sugar are present. I taste sweet light Belgian candy sugar, light grains, sweet oats, and just a hint of slightly fruity Belgian triple yeast. It is a very clean tasting beer that is highly carbonated, dry, and crisp.

Poured cloudy straw color with large amount of white fluffy head, mild pour. The initial flavors were very pleasant: banana, honey, fruity. The flavor was quickly masked by excessive body/mouthfeel. The beer seemed to expand in my mouth with foam, nearly blocking the flavors. I let the beer sit for a little bit and found it to be much more pleasant.

Pours a clear straw gold with billowing head and lots of lacing. Nose is estery, but also somewhat phenolic and medicinal. Flavor is malty with candied fruits, and also sweet and sour sauce. Mouthfeel is crisp.
Honestly, this has been better on other occasions...but you can only rate what you are drinking. Maybe we'll relook this one in the future. A bit disappointing.
