Appearance - Light and clear, looking not unlike some ciders and most American mass market beers. Pours with a largish head, but it fades quickly. The foam is pleasingly white and leaves no appreciable lacing on the glass.

Smell - Very appealing. Strong with esters and spices, but not so much as to appear infused or artificial.

Taste - This is the good part. Also the bad. The flavor is quick, complex, fruity, and bright. There is a quick freshness, and a strong suggestion of farmhouse ales. This beer is strong in terms of carbonation, but it doesn't last; drinking at an unhurried pace the beer is near flat by the end of the glass. Shifted quickly from flavor to flavor, beginning with sweet, then moving through non-specific mild dark spices and then fresh green herbs. There is a strong sour aftertaste.that reminds of Flemish sours, but also has a note of bar soap. Iniitally this aftertaste is unpleasant, and I was initially intending to pan this beer. However, by the second glass, I was quite happy with it, and I am disappointed that I shan't soon be buying (or seeing) another bottle.

Mouthfeel - Initially quite carbonated, although not nearly so much as champagne or Affligem. Later, it's as flat as tap water. The overall effect is smooth, and not overly powerful in any direction.

Overall Impression - I would definitely buy this again, although there are so many that are easier to enjoy, that I would buy them first. I would unreservedly recommend this to anyone who thinks about their beer, and who enjoys a good ale.

No smoke in my house, and I quit smoking a long time ago. Beer served in a tall pils glass, at refrigerator temperatures. This is how I enjoy all beers at home except lambic (and hand-pulled English ale, if the opportunity ever presents). This was the first beer of my night, and I did not drink it with food or anything else.

From the 2011 corked, caged bottle. Sampled on June 16, 2014 I waited to post this for review number 1,800 even though I had it a week ago.

Lovely pale yellow pour that overflows to a foamy cream colored head. I need a towel to clean up the overflow mess. Great clarity.

Wonderful aroma that highlights toasted pale malts, Belgian yeast, coriander, pepper, ginger, and clove. Textbook Belgian Abbey brew.

The body is medium to full but it tickles my senses like champagne.

Similar to the aroma I pick up more spicy characters in the taste. The ginger really forces itself forward beyond the biscuit malts and other spices. Lingering light fruit character at the end. If someone was to ask me 6 months from now what I thought of this beer my answer would be one word "Ginger." Good or bad. That's what I take away from it.

A - golden body with active sparking carbonation. Big white head sinks down and retains well.

S - dusty yeast, grassy, minerals, muted fruit, pears mostly, old spices,

T - fruity yeast, pears, apples, muscat grapes, hints of citrus, sturdy mineral notes. There's some cereal sweetness in the but finishes dry and crisp.

M - moderate carbonation, drinks like sparkling wine.

Interesting. It's like beer champagne. This is my first beer of the style, so I don't have anything to grade it against. While I appreciate this beer, it's not something I would seek out. It would be fun to show up to a tasting with this.

Poured beer poured clear golden yellow, with a large foamy head, that dissapated rapidly, had a decent amount of carbonation and lacings. It had grassy flavor, with strong streets of yeast, malts, and grains, punctuated by traces of sugar sweetness, fruit, and hops. It has medium edge becuase of the alcohol content, which is 11.5 ABV, goes down okay, and leaves strong aftertast. Pretty filling.
