I love coming here because this place has everything. Not only do they have beer home brewing accessories but they also have wine home brewing accessories. There are quite a few guys working there and they all have a really good head on their shoulders when it comes to a little Q and A about home brewing. Even the younger guys there (they look about early 20s) know a great deal about brewing. They carry everything; hops, yeast, malts, they grind the malts there for you, tubing for kegs, keg parts, shanks, sankeys, books, everything. I highly recommend this place.

Great products. The place organization is fine.
Personnel is knowledgeable. Personnel could be more proactive at providing help to customers.

I've been homebrewing for a while now but never made it out so I decided to come here to see how its like. When I first walked in I was amazed by the selection, and took a look around and liked how clean the place looked. I was very disappointed how I walked around for 30 to 45 mins and not a single employee greeted me or asked me for help. I ended up just leaving. I'll keep buying my stuff in the woodlands. Which is sad because I am about to start coming into this area almost every weekend. I didn't really look at prices, but probably just like normal, online is cheaper.

This place helped me tremendously.
I had only ordered from Northern Brewer and had learned the basics researching online for hours, but I had my procedure all wrong. The staff here at Defalco's pointed me in the right direction. They even hand wrote 10+ reminders for me on my next batch of brew and, being in college station, told me about their website, which is also fantastic, which recipes online for beginners. I wish I would've come here first before jumping into the homebrew world.

Highly recommended.

When I first walked into the store, I noticed around 4 or 5 employees debating and discussing different beers amongst themselves. Eventually, I started talking to one employee who was not only patient and helpful, but also experienced. He stated that he had been home brewing for ten years, but a couple of the other employees had been home brewing for 20+ years. He interrupted our conversation to tell me that he had to have his three o clock beer, awesome. I will definitely go back to DeFalcos, not because of their reasonable prices, or because of their wide selection of malts, hops and yeast; but because of the employee's passion for beer.

This is most definitely my go-to homebrew shop. It's where the magic starts. If they don't have what I need, then well, I look for something else.

That said, it's a bummer when they don't have what I need and then I have to call an audible. It happens most often with hops, but also with grains. Never had to call a yeast audible before. Sometimes the hops get so low you really gotta get creative. With the grains, there's usually a domestic or import alternative.

Service is top notch. They walked me through growing up from extract to all grain. When I needed advice on homebrew equipment or kegerator equipment, they've always offered invaluable expertise.

If you browse online and compare prices, you realize the online shops offer a slightly better deal, but it's worth it for me to go to Defalco's for the convenience factor. Now if only they always had everything I needed in stock!

I love this place. The staff is knowledgeable and approachable. They are always happy to help me and don't mind a thousand questions. I can take my brews in and they don't mind tasting them and helping me diagnose any problems. Definitely an A++ in the service department.

They have everything I have ever needed equipment wise and have a good book selection too. The ingredients can run low/out, but this ensures that what they have is always fresh as the previous reviewer mentioned.

Overall, I really like this place and that is why I keep going back rather than using an online venue. Also, a shopping cart can't talk to me about brewing. Picking up ingredients is part of my "me" time and I really enjoy it.

I got into homebrewing a few years ago and from what I have in the homebrew forum I have it made. This place has everything, and I mean everything, you need to brew. They always ask if they can help you, but have since stopped asking me. They know me pretty well by now and I am a self service customer right down to milling my own grain.

You can become a frequent fermenter and get a percentage off of your ingredients, 10% I think.

Startup kits are reasonably priced to get you going. Liquid and dry malt extract.

Just about every grain you could imagine, and some that you haven't even heard of.

Wide selection of pellet and whole leaf hops foreign and domestic.

Yeast? The entire white labs and wyeast selection. I prefer wyeast and most times the manufacture date is earlier that WEEK! Dry yeast too if that is what you are into.

And other stuff like books, oak cubes, rhizomes when they are in season, the list goes on. Usually a few homebrews on tap to sample.

My only complaint is that they do not have alot of storage and run out of a particular grain or hop occasionally, but that just means everything is fresh, see my yeast comment.

If you are in or around the Houston area and want to homebrew this is where it is at.

I generally do not review Homebrew Shops as a rule simply because I am not a homebrewer. There are those rare occasions when I am either asked to stop in by the proprietor or else my publishers ask me to drop off copies of the paper in my journeys. This stop was one of the latter.

A wide storefront with the entry on the right side opening onto "Winemaking Supplies" and glassware in the window. On the left side were coolers of hops (reserve right to restrict quantities), and both Wyeast and White Labs yeast. Extracts on shelves. Malt sat in barrels on the floor along with a mill against left wall. We were escorted around the shop by the assistant, which seemed a really nice thing to do since it was a sales call more than me being a customer.

A homebrewer's dream come true! The staff is extremely knowledgable and the selection is great. They grind the grain on site for you at no additional charge and they let you serve yourself if you are so inclined. All grain folks, as well as extract brewers will be satisfied by the selection.

The quality of their ingredients is top knotch and consistently so. For novices, Scott runs a homebrewing class that is both fun and informative. For more exoerienced brewers, it is still fun.

They are fairly cost efficient, but I would say that they tend to be a little pricey on some of the equipment.

I highly recommend Defalco's.

Went here for a local home brew meeting that takes place in the store. They have everything you need to start home brewing there. Theres a good selection of grains there that they'll mill for you and a decent selection of hops in their cooler. The people that work there are very friendly and helpful if and when you have questions. Things can be a little pricey there but it is a little shop and not the internet. They do have good prices on cornies though which cought my eye for when I'm ready to keg beer. Good place just a little bit of a drive from North Houston to get to.

Pros:

They have a good selection of malts, hops, yeasts and the like.
I really enjoy the personal service.
The place is laid out real nice, especially for the beginning homebrewer. A good browsing store.

Cons:

PRices are a bit high. Their kits only come in Extract, and they explained that they don't change them to all grain because most all grainers like to tinker rather than buy kits. They are pretty far away from me living in Katy

Overall:

I go here every once in a while to buy ingredients, especially when the other place doesn't have them

Went there a few months ago when I first started brewing. Great place! Very helpful and friendly. They don't speak over your head and are more than happy to answer questions. They have a good selection of equipment and ingredients at fair prices. I really happy about how they will share their recipes and offer feedback on yours. I gone in there with some hair brain ideas that they've helped me create into something tasty. If you are in the Houston area there is no reason to go anywhere else. I don't think there is anywhere else.

This place is a fantastic homebrew store. The prices are really pretty good. The service was fantastic. The workers here are very friendly and willing to help out and meet all of your brewing needs. They are also very knowledgable. Defalco's is definitely a great store in the Houston area. They were out of a few things but definitely made up for that with price adjustments. They also have some beverages for tasting. They had an IPA on tap along with a root beer for our tasting pleasur. That was fantastic. I just wish that I had one near me!

I've used other suppliers but none to the satisfaction of Defalco's. The staff there is very friendly and always willing to give you their two cents. All are very willing to help a novice with getting started. I am also a very big fan of their kits. Some of my best tasting brews have been from a recipe they have (esp. their british porter). My only complaint is that it is an hour and a half drive from where I live, but it makes for a good roadtrip. They also have a few tasting brews on tap for the shoppers to enjoy, which never dampens the experience.

I recieved a homebrewing kit this Christmas, so I decided to check out Defalco's to get input on the complex art that is homebrewing.

First of all, the store is laid out very well. It is not a large place, but they have pretty much everything a homebrewer needs. This is a no-frills, everything-in-here-serves-a-purpose establishment.

The best part of this store is the help. Ask any member of the staff for advice - if it is about beer, chances are they can help you or find someone who can. They love to talk beer, and I have been in the store on slow days and ended up talking with the owner, Scott Birdwell, for some time.

An above average homebrewer's store where the staff knows what they are talking about, because they are homebrewers too. Check it out, or at least give them a call.

This is a very good place to shop. Their mail order service is exceptional as well. I needed a batch of ingredience by the weekend because another outfit had failed to get the goods to me in a timely manner. I was in a bind because I had a starter that was nearly ready to pitch, so I had to have it. I ordered on Wednesday morning and asked to please ship the same day if at all possible. It was at my place of employment the very next day and that was through standard shipping. A class act with a nice selection and superb service! I recommend this place.

I used to get all my stuff from Angel Home Brew Supply but they went out of business and I thought I was in a lurch. Then my wife found Defalco's. Great selection and excellent customer service. I told them I was out to do my first all grain method and they hooked me up. I needed a lauter tun with a false bottom. Not only did they have all the parts necessary - but they built it for me out of parts in stock and saved me about $50.00. The have an excellent selection of Hops & Yeast too. and everything you need form beginner to advanced.

Houston's oldest home wine and beer supplier. They have a fairly wide selection of ingredients as well as all the necessary home brewing paraphernalia. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and always willing to help and offer advice for any home brewing questions or problems you may have.
