On tap at the 28/65 Brewhouse.

A: Served a hazy light golden color with a small head and no real lacing.

S: Aroma of citrus, mild fruit with wheat and just a bit of malt sweetness

T: Taste of citrus some malt sweetness and a subtle blackberry sweetness. Has a mild bitterness and the finish is quite clean.

F: Fairly light body, crisp and refreshing.

O: A pleasant summer beer that

Pours a cloudy, golden color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of citrus (blackberry), syrup, and slight sweet malt. Fits the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of citrus, slight yeast, and slight sweet malt. Overall, too syrupy - not enough true citrus (blackberry).

Enjoyed on-tap @ the St. Louis Microfest in Forest Park (St. Louis), MO. While talking with a Highland's Brewing Rep, she was able to give me the ABV=5.0% and has 14 IBU's. Very informative. Tapped from their beer cooler into my 16oz Microfest Pilsner glass and enjoy only half of the glass. Has a White Stone Tap with the Train and Blackberries painted on it. Very cool!

Appearance- Poured a hazy, shiny pale yellow color with a Half a finger of white and bubbly head. Had decent retention and left only suds at the bottom of the glass (no lacing).

Smell- Unbelievable aroma! Starts with a crushed blackberry/blueberry scent or some kind of wild berry smoothie. It hits you from a distance and then when you put your nose to the glass, even more scents of fruit come alive! Great job!

Taste- Has an average wheat taste, pale malts, and has a slight taste of blackberries (not what I was looking for though).

Mouthfeel- Light Bodied, Smooth, Crisp, and everything you would enjoy in a American Pale Wheat Ale plus more!

Overall- Has a great aroma but falls short with the taste. I did enjoy this beer but am wondering how could they make this better? May alter the ingredients or slightly change the recipe. Did not taste the 5.0% ABV of this beer.

The new version of the Highlands black wheat is heads over tails better thand the old version after tweaking. A clean and filtered brew, straw yellow with a nice white head.

Of course, the aroma of blackberry is there, albeit quietly and easily - not overpowering - on top of some subtle hints of wheaty malt. Same with the quaff was the same - body was sharp, crisp and finished dry. Easy to drink, easy to enjoy in the summer heat, a fine session or hot weather brew.

A - Hazy golden with slight white head. Left slight lacing and slight head retention.

S - Lots and lots of fruit / blackberries. A lot more than the last time I had this beer. I'm a fruit beer fan, and this one delivered without being overpowering. You get some grain (wheat), slight hints of sweet malts, but the blackberry really shines through here.

T & M - Crisp and clean, big up front sweetness with the blackberry and finishes slightly dry from the wheat / yeast. Some slight malt hints, but no real hop character. A perfect session beer for a warm afternoon.

Overall - I really enjoy this beer. I always tend to have at least one when I go to Highlands. If you don't like sweeter, fruity beers, you won't like this. But I introduced it to a couple people when we went and they loved it.
