Visited the Groveland Tap with my wife and two of our friends after dinner elsewhere Friday evening. It is located in a nicer section of St Paul, in an area with several local colleges within walking distance.

The tavern itself is somewhat disjointed: The front room is a table and booth area; the bar is further down the left-hand side - where it almost feels like it is in a hallway between two larger rooms; the larger back room has a pool table and barstool seating.

Making up for the weird feeling of the tavern's layout itself is the clientele. It is composed of a nice mix of older local neighborhood residents and students of the local schools. A birthday party of sorts was happening in the back area where we were seated, and the party almost insisted that we join in the festivities. It was all good fun.

The beer selection is pretty solid. All Summit flavors were present, as well as several other craft breweries (Lagunitas, Dark Horse, Surly, & Tyranena are four that I remember). Other reviews below show 30 taps, which sounds about right from my memory. Definitely enough different breweries & styles to keep any palate happy.

The service was good; polite and timely without being pushy. The server knew her beer and was able to keep up with the busy back area for the most part.

Prices were fair; our party had 7 beers, our tab came to around $28 total with tax.

Overall: nice place, nice location. The awkwardness of the building layout itself is overcome by the good beer selection, clientele, and the good service. Will definitely hit Groveland Tap again if in the neighborhood.

Mediocrity in a beer bar:
I love cask beer...i am in town a short while , so researched this place on the web, upon arrival, no cask beer as advertised,

"We are out of the cask and the manager is not here so we can't do another, as its to complex"
