This brewery is located in Buena Vista a town north of Salida. This is a difficult to find place. It is in a faux area of downtown, you know one of those that developers build to make it look like it is part of some other development. There is a main street in Buena Vista, then there is a South Main Street where the brewery is located. If the beer was better the difficulty would be worth it.
Walking in you get the out door sports vibe. A very small bar of about 4 stools is opposite the door. My wife and I tried the CPA (Colorado Pale Ale) and the Chili Porter. I bartender who was unaware I was sitting at the bar, even after she helped two guys next to me, didn’t know what Chilies were in the beer. None the less it was good. Did eat here and split after a pint.
Some of the service was good, greeted at the door, and asked if we have been helped by another gentleman. But the bartender was clueless.
Don’t make a special effort to get here, but if you are nearby it may be worth stopping in for a pint.

Well I hate to be so harsh but in this case it was justified. We were told they were out if pasta right when we walked in. When we were seated we were told they were out of pasta, steaks, potato wedges and arugula salad. I got the beer sampler which was a decent value at 6 5oz beers for $7 but they were just ok. When my burger came out it looked great but before I could eat it the waiter snatched it, said "I need this back" and rushed off to the kitchen. He came back and had apparently brought the wrong burger. It did taste quite good but the experience was unsettling. A friend ordered a grilled chicken club which was discolored in the middle and had to be sent back. The manager was apologetic and took the club and the beers off the tab and then offered a free dessert sampler. They were also out of one of the desserts. The burger was quite good but overall I would never go back.

Newer facility down by (not on) the river just east of the old downtown. Just keep driving till the road ends. Went there twice with my son. Sort of outdoors sports oriented theme with plenty of outdoors seating. Very busy both nights we went in. Food is limited to pizzas and such. We had pizza and it was very good. Beers were limited to just 4 house beers. The brewing area is very small but the brewer said they were going to start brewing off-premises and expand the bar area. The IPA was very solid while the Pale Ale was refreshing if not quite memorable. If in BV a good place to stop in for beer and pizza. The modest number of house beers knocks this down a bit but don't let this keep you away.

Good food. Mainly had an appetizer and grazed off of the plates of my friends. Good Atmosphere. Pretty hard to find. In a newer area of BV, surrounded by houses that are in a various state of construction. Only had one beer, a brown, and it was good. Beer selection was pretty standard. I believe there were 5-7 varieties so the selection was just okay. Location, location, location. It is very close to the Arkansas River. Had a nice looking patio but the bar area was very small. I imagine this place getting very crowded. I will go back. A pretty standard brewery for Colorado.

The main challenge is finding this place .. I've been to Buena Vista several times in the past, but this is in a new neighborhood that I had no clue existed. Google maps or Garmin don't know where it is either .. Once I got there, my first impression was strange. This is in a brand new "new urban" style neighborhood, right down by the river. Across the street is a manufactured boulder for climbing, so we watched the climbers from the bar .. nothing like enjoying a beer and watching people injure themselves. The main draw food-wise is the wood fired oven - pizzas and meat are all cooked on it. I had a Cuban sandwich, and it was great .. good soup too. All of the food I saw looked pretty good. The beers were all solid - nothing out of the ordinary, but nothing I wouldn't drink again.
Definitely worth a visit, not many other options in BV. I think once the whole neighborhood is populated it will feel a little less strange and out of place.
