Notes/Commercial Description:
It is a low alcohol, sweet and smooth stout. It is balanced with the addition of Kenyan coffee to the finished beer which gives it a nice roasted flavor. This beer is loaded with flaked oats and milk sugar that gives it that cream and coffee breakfast taste.

Poured from a 64oz. growler filled 7/3/11 into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

Hard pour creates a frothy 2 finger light coffee colored head with moderate retention. Beer is a dark, near opaque amber. Lacing is pathcy and thick with decent cling. A pretty beer, slightly above average for the style.

Nose is iced coffee on top of an oatmeal stout. Very simple. Aromatic. Clean.

Taste is almost exactly like a mocha iced coffee with some oatmeal stout sourness at the finish. Pretty clean aftertaste overall though with just a touch of coffee. Not much going on but what is there is pleasant.

Feel is light bodied and moderately carbonated. Smooth in the mouth and clean and refreshing going down. Finish is clean with some sticky aftertaste.

I'm a total sucker for this beer and when its available, I literally go through gallons and gallons of it. Very easy to drink. Nice flavor. Almost like a Founders Breakfast Stout light. Pretty easy to find in the area and definitely a beer that's under the radar in my opinion.

Pours a deep brown color with a smallish toasted khaki head. The head is a little loose and settles into a light ring. Overall a little light for the style.

Nice aroma of coffee grounds and woody bark. Simple, not much else.

The flavor is of fresh ground coffee, not super strong but flavorful. There is a lactose sweetness that goes well with the coffee flavor. A bark like earthiness and a hint of caramel round out the flavor profile.

The feel is light, almost watery, with prickly carbonation. Sweetish on the palate but not in a heavy sort of way. Not much bitterness from the roast. Drinks insanely easy. Very very light for the style.

This is a tough beer to review. For each category, it is either slightly above or below average. But if you look to see what this beer is meant to be, its awesome. A 3.5% breakfast stout that has good coffee flavor. You can easily drink this for breakfast and go about your day. Not very complex but good.

This is a very tough beer to rate. The smell is phenomenal and the taste is good as well. Everything else is okay for me... The problem for me is I've had far superior Breakfast Stouts. I will say however beer is very drinkable great coffee taste with excellent balance... as they do with most of their beers... low alcohol should not be a turnoff for this beer as I'm sure that's intentional because they made it so damn drinkable

I out of cask at Breukelen Bier Merchants in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Basically looks similar to a Guinness. Black. It has a smokey scent to it. It has a very sweet taste mixed with an intense smokiness. There's an odd bubblegum taste intertwined in there, too. I think that I'd like a bit more if it was chilled, but interesting taste.

On-tap at Blind Tiger Ale House, New York, NY

A: The beer is very dark amber (near black) in color and poured with a finger high beige head that died down but never completely faded away, leaving thick lacing running down the sides of the glass.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of roasted malts in the nose.
T: The taste is very similar to the smell and also has a little bit of coffee flavor.
M: The beer is very light-bodied, airy and dry. It feels like almost drinking the frappé on top of a coffee or a Guinness.
O: This beer is extremely easy to drink and very much sessionable, especially since it has such a light body and isn’t that filling.

Poured a deep brown hue with a one two finger foamy tan head. There was no retention and decent lacing.

The smell featured a dilluted coffee aroma and a touch of sweetness.

The taste consisted of spent coffee grounds, some roasted barley and a slight lactose.

The mouthfeel was toward the lighter side of teh style, but likely appropriate for a proper breakfast stout.

Overall a novel concept but lackluster flavor-wise.

Review from 3/20/2011: pours black with a small tan head that faded quickly and left zero lacing; really not much to look at.

Smells of roasted malt, toffee, coffee beans, smoked peat, earthy, charcoal, grass, hay and light citrus hops; smells smoky and malty with hints of roasted coffee, like a good stout should.

Tastes like it smells with roasted malt, toffee, coffee beans, light vanilla, caramel and/or molasses, smoked peat, earthy tones like mulch or dirt, charcoal, grass, hay, burnt wood and light citrus hops that leave a slight bitter finish. Smoky and zesty overall, this would be a great breakfast beer.

Mouthfeel was light and smooth, with light carbonation, a crisp feel and an almost watery lightness to it before the dry bitter finish trails off. The charcoal flavor is the strongest element to this beer and works really well; this was very light for a stout, very enjoyable and easy to drink. Breakfast Stout's a perfect name as I could drink this early in the day.
