Taken from my beer journal dated 3/8/12

Appearance: 22oz bottle poured into Duvel tulip. Colour is a rich garnet-brown. Thick head of a finger in height. Leaves a thick lacing, lots of visible carbonation.

Smell: Fresh and bright citrus, floral hops. There is a nice nuttiness to the malt aromas. Slight alcohol presence.

Taste: Strong bitter hops are very prominent followed by a hint of malts. Alcohol is more present in the taste as opposed to the smell, very warming. Extremely bitter. Wow!

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a slightly silky touch. Carbonation is abrasive with a healthy bite. Finishes sticky.

Overall: Bitter. Very very bitter with the cutting abrasive taste and mouthfeel found in many Long Island beers. A little one-dimensional but regardless, it's a decent brew.

Served in a snifter glass.

Appearance: A hazy amber with tiny sediments on the body. Medium bubble bodied frame off-white head with a light orange tint; rises to maybe 2/3".

Smell: Light aroma and easily the weakest property of the beer, smells very good but it is one of those come and go hop scents. Sweet caramel with a wet hop aroma.

Taste: Strong alcohol taste with a malty feel and heavy hops. It has this incredible caramel feel with a smooth bitterness that makes love to your palates.

Mouth: Medium carbonation and oh so smooth, has the feel of wet hops at the end pretty damn sticky if you ask me.

Overall: This is a pretty damn good brew, and probably the best Long Ireland beer I have had, not to mention maybe the best DIPA from Long Island. It's complexity reminds me of one of my favorites. Spend the 8 bucks and drink up definitely

Poured into a Duvel glass. Rich amber color, and the head is a densely packed white foam--heaps of it. Tiny bubbles. Me like even if it dissipates. Lacing good, but I've seen more impressive stripes, on a tiger, say. Smells of hops and pine and citrus--not as big as I would like but good still. Yet there's something bigger behind it all that I like. A kind of promise. It's not the alcohol. It's something else. Mouthfeel is exceptional. Oily, delicious, a final pinch, a kick. Yup.

A: Pours a hazy dark copper to medium amber in color with some orange highlights when held up to the light. The beer has a finger tall frothy beige head that very slowly reduces to a thin film covering the entire surface of the beer, a couple of small patches of thicker bubbles, and a thin ring at the edges of the glass - very good retention properties. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of citrus hops and pine resin hops. Underlying the strong hop aroma, there is a lighter aroma of caramel malts with a touch of sweetness.

T: This beer has a strong malt body with lots of caramel malts and light amount of sweetness. There is a lesser amount of hop presence, primarily the pine/resin flavors with just a hint of the citrus - there is a light amount of lingering bitterness. Also, there is a light amount of alcohol flavor int he finish of the beer.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. This beer is sticky/resinous and there is a light amount of alcohol heat in the finish.

O: This is an enjoyable beer but not the easiest beer to drink with the heavy presence of alcohol (in the mouthfeel and the taste). This is a beer that you need to sip slowly but is a nice offering from a smaller local brewery.

Pours very cloudy copper brown color with a foamy 2 finger tan head that faded slowly, leaving good spotty lacing and a creamy layer on top.

Smells of grapefruit, citrus hops, orange peel, floral hops, brown sugar, sweet malt, toasted grains, mango, biscuit, pine cone, tea leaf and mild alcohol; complex with enough malt and grains to keep the hops balanced. Sweet aroma overall, with a rum like alcohol essence that shows the high ABV.

Tastes of grapefruit, tangerine, citrus hops, orange peel, lemon zest, floral hops, brown sugar, sweet malt, toasted grains, mango, biscuit, caramel, syrup, pine cone, tea leaf, pepper, spices and mild alcohol; very sweet and complex with earthy grains and juicy hops complimenting each other very well and hiding the ABV quite well, unlike in the nose.

Mouthfeel is oily slick, with a medium body, a toasted essence and mild carbonation that keeps the hoppy heat sliding down fast and easy.

A surprisingly very good DIPA, and one that I'm happy will always be fresh since it's a local brewery. I split the bomber with my brother and he was equally impressed with this one; a slow sipper that is definitely worth trying.

A: The beer is hazy dark amber-orange in color. It poured with a finger high beige head that has good retention properties and consistently left a thin head covering the surface.
S: The smell has aromas of caramel malts and citrusy hops along with some notes of pine resin hops.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and seems to be more maltier than hoppy with flavors of caramel and pine resin. No citrus is perceptible.
M: it feels medium- to full-bodied and somewhat sticky on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation. There are some notes of alcohol in the finish.
O: This is a beer that needs to be sipped slowly due to its higher alcohol content. It's nothing overly special, but is a pretty good offering from the East End of Long Island.

22oz bottle served in a tulip glass.

L - clear amber color with a off-white head that leaves a lot of lacing behind.

S - some floral & earthy hops but the background is fusel alcohol.

T - alcohol is not very well hidden in the taste which is very mild on the floral hops and heavy handed with earthy malt and alcohol heat.

F - medium bodied beer with a warming feel.

O - there are much better double IPA’s out there and I don’t think I’ll be buying this one again anytime soon.
