Thanks Scott (aka cardsfan1) for the recommendation. I stopped in here to get a quick app and a drink after the long drive down from Winston-Salem and was very pleased. I was a little weary when I first pulled in as they have complementary valet parking, but the prices are not so expensive that it really warrants a valet, but the parking lot is small, narrow, and could be difficult to manage, but that's all only slightly relevant.
Atmosphere: We were there during Happy Hour (something sadly not legal in NC) and grabbed three seats at the bar. They had no qualms about our 4 1/2 year old son sitting with us at the bar. Very nice, lively bar. There was a good, seemingly local vibe and the place seemed to be coming alive as more and more people came in after the end of the work week. Everybody was very friendly and they all seemed very happy to be there including the staff.
Quality: They have some really good beers on draft and a pretty good supplemental bottle list. It appeared that the taps change with some frequency as many of the features were seasonals.
Service: From the valet to the hostess to the bartenders everybody was very friendly and accommodating. They all seemed like they enjoyed their job and were genuinely happy to be there. The bar staff was knowledgeable and attentive. They made great food suggestions and very helpful even bringing our son crayons and a paper mat to draw on. (may not seem like a big thing, but considering we were at the bar I thought it was)
Food: This is were the place seems to shine even brighter. We only had two items so it would be hard for me to rate them higher, but they were great. We grabbed the traditional, thin cut fries and the Shrimp Tacos from the Happy Hour menu (again something retardedly (sorry Mrs. Palin) not legal in NC). The fries were just a quick snack till dinner and something easily shared, the tacos were from the Bartenders, and now my, recommendation. They come with a great sauces and clearly fresh quality ingredients. The fries were very good as well and the menu seemed to have some real flair and items that were a little different than your normal restaurant.
Value: While the prices might seem high to some but for the quality of the items we got they seemed right in line. The beer prices were just what I would expect for a pint of craft beer. Our bill for two beers (Bell's Porter and COAST Hop Art IPA), an OJ, a basket of fries, and the Shrimp Tacos was $24, which I thought was a reasonable price.
P.S. My wife (the wine expert) said that the Wine by the Glass list was very good, eclectic, and inexpensive. So if you have a mixed crowd this is another plus to satisfying everybody.
