Being a fan of Whole Foods, both for the typicaly huge variety of high quality foods available, and for the beer (some stores better, some stores worse) it seems to make sense that I review a WFs store for my 500th place review...First of all Los Gatos is a high rent district, sort of between the beaches of Santa Cruz and the airport outside of San Jose.
Beautiful location, typical WF store filled with beautiful foods. Beer is is less impressive, just not that much of it available. A smattering of the widely available options, Firestone Walker, Sierra Nevada, Stone and the like. For more options, head to another WF store, I know I did...The one in Santa Cruz has a mess of better options

I've been frequenting this WF location since I moved accross the street from it about seven months ago. It's a smaller location, and thus has a smaller beer section, but the selection is thoughtfully curated and the staff is open to suggestion. They recently moved the beer to a significantly larger area of the store, so the selection has expanded to the point that I rarely find myself going elsewhere (namely, Bobby's in Santa Clara or the WF on Blossom Hill in South San Jose).
From what I can tell, this store and Lunardi's (accross the street) are the only places to find a wide variety of crafts in Los Gatos. I will add that the staff at this store are extremely polite and friendly.
Some examples of what I've been able to find there and nowhere else within 10 miles: Firehouse Grill & Brewery Hops on Rye (local favorite of mine), Drake's Aroma Coma, Hopocalypse, Russian River Consecration, Tempation, Supplication, anniversary beers from Stone, Firestone Walker, & The Bruery. I've also spotted selections from Jolly Pumpkin, Pretty Things, & Goose Island, to name a few.

I visited Whole Foods in Los Gatos to see how the beer selection compared with other Whole Foods in the Bay Area, as some of them have a very good beer selection.
Compared to other Whole Foods stores in the area, Los Gatos has a much smaller selection of beer. The beer is all kept in a cooler, but it only takes up a small section of the cooler.
There is a very good selection for what space it uses, but it would be nice if they expanded the beer space to take up more of the cooler.
The variety is still pretty good, and the quality of the beers is also good. All in all, a pretty good beer store, but below average for a Whole Foods. Try the Cupertino Whole Foods (15 min drive) for a better selection of beer closeby; it's supposedly the largest Whole Foods Market in California.

I just made my first visit to this store and I will be back. It was far from the largest selection I have ever seen, I have seen 2 or 3 times as many selections at other Whole Foods Stores and many big time beer stores would dwarf the modest eight foot section of cooler space devoted to beers at the Los Gatos store. However, the combination of good quality selection, some unusual choices, and some outstanding personal attention and assistance made this place a real pleasure. I came home with a Cica's Blue Frog Big DIPA, a six pack of Firestone Walker Union Jack IPA, some Pliny The Elders & Blind Pig, and a Marin Star Brew Triple Wheat Ale. There were easily another dozen brews that were of interest to me, a few examples of many of the classic micros like Rogue, but I couldn't fit much more in my luggage home and now I don't recall the details. What I do remember is how helpful Brian was. Brian apparently manages the beer selection for this store, among other things. When he saw me big-eyed at the cooler he immediately came forward and asked me what I liked and gave me some suggestions as well as pulling out a couple of things from the back that didn't happen to be on the shelf yet. He also pulled out some items that had not yet been refrigerated which was good for me since I was bringing everything home to Connecticut in my luggage, as usual. He was very pleasant, very knowledgeable, and I thank him for convincing me to buy the six-pack of Firestone Walkers, they were impressive. I will be sure to stop here on every future visit to Los Gatos!
