The Lost Spring Break Beer Review, Chapter 4

Bright amber with golden highlights. Small white head which might be damaged by hotel glassware.

Aroma of apricots and mango, with a hint of pine.

Solid deep caramel foundation. Some juicy fruit. Small bitter bite at the swallow.lingering bitterness. Very slight soap in the aftertaste. Needs a bit more hops to balance the malt.

Medium mouthfeel, mostly smooth with a little bit of bubbly.

A good enough pale ale for a vacation try.

[Suggested Glassware: Shaker Glass]

The pour was a cloudy medium yellow with a light reddish hue and a small (1 finger or less) white frothy head that was mostly lasting, eventually receding down to a thin film and possessed some good spotty lacing.

The aroma was of a grain malt, floral hops and a soapy yeast with notes of caramel and citrus (orange).

The taste was lightly malty and bitter sweet with a hint of caramel from the onset, progressing with a mild citrus sweetness and a bitter hop finish. The flavor lasted an average duration with a fruity hoppy taste settling in on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was a few steps above light in body, watery and a tad dry in texture with a lively carbonation.

Overall a very good Pale Ale, which possessed a decent hoppiness that was set off slightly by a mild citrus sweetness...

A - Poured a hazy, copper color with a one-finger, off-white head of foam. It left minimal lacing.

S - It smelled of caramel and toast. Some grassy floral hop presence.

T - It tasted of burnt toast, caramel and roasted malt. There is a very mild bitter grassy bite.

M - It was crisp and fairly sharp. A light bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - I think they've improved or maybe I'm kind, but this is a better brew than the reviews last summer. Not great but still a worthy brew to try.

A: Pours a slightly hazey golden orange color, with little to no head at all. Just some big bubbles on top. Doesn't look very appealing.

S: Smell was very lacking a small amount of hops maybe and just an almost adjunt lager smell.

T: Taste was also very lacking, a slight hoppy taste with some malts as well, but this could be the worst pale ale I have tasted.

M: Eh, goes down really easy but wasn't appealing to the tongue.

O: This beer needs some work, unless I just had a bad bottle. But not anything to sought after if you are in the area, try the oatmeal stout instead.

Picked up a bottle at the Sunseed Co-Op in Cocoa Beach, because the brewery was out of bottles. I poured the beer in a pint glass, and it pours a light, hazy, yellow-gold coloring, with some ruby highlights in the deeper areas. Spotty film covering, but no head to speak of. Aromas are of grapefruit, pineapple, thickly sweet malt, and spicy green hops. Well balanced smells, and an interesting blend overall. The flavory is a little shifty, starting with the deep and sweet malt, and then lightening up with some citrus sweetness and spicy/peppery hops. Good body on this beer, leaving a lacing along the glass despite the lack of head. The aftertaste is tart and crisp, with a slighlty astringent dryness that cleans the palate to prepare for a follow-up drink. Finish is dry and crisp, with only a slight spice and pucker left in the mouth. Tasty beer...one of their stronger offerings.

Bomber poured into an efes tulip. Little to no no head, faint clear lacing. Aroma isn't exciting, hops not really noted, some malt sweetness and a bit of old percimon. Taste is a bit salty of all things, maybe a beach theme? Just not very much to style, expected some citrus and bitterness and got none.

A - Golden colored beer with a large white head and some spots. Not a bad looking beer.

S - Smells largely blah. Some malts, malt sugar, and a little bit of generic fruit.

T - Tastes about the same. Not offensive, not good. Tastes like watered down malt water. No traces of alcohol.

M - Medium body with moderage carbonation.

O - Boring beer that I have no reason to drink again. It didn't taste bad or offensive, but just wasn't good.

Poured into a pint glass. Nice white head, hazy, bright straw color. The aroma has some earthy and floral hops to it, but not much else. The brew has a definite balance between bitter and malt; the malt backbone make it probably more like a stock ale or english pale ale then what most of us Americans like as our pale ales. Solid body for the style. A nice sipper for the summer heat coming on.

Picked up a bottle on a recent trip to Melbourne. Pours a slightly hazy amber with one finger of white foam, one ring of lace left on the glass. Smell: a light toffee sweetness, mild lemon and leafy hopping. Slightly metallic. Taste: green apple, corn, husky. All bad. Watery pale malt flavors, astringent oily hop contribution but without much hop flavor - vaguely lemon peel and pine. The carbonation is actually fine but the feel is too light from the astringent character. I was hoping this would be solid, or at least an inoffensive refreshing pale ale, but there is far too much wrong here to even finish the bomber. Not recommended.

Thanks to Beerlando for this apparently rare tick. Served in a Half Acre pint glass.

A - Pours with a nice large off-white foam that features good retention and splotchy lace. The body is a hazed golden color.

S - Bland, nebulous sweet malt character. Some grass and apples as well. Alcohol is not apparent - I actually thought this was closer to 5%.

T - Also fairly bland, with toffee and apple malt sweetness. There's some mild hop bitterness in the finish.

M - Medium body, medium carbonation, light sticky finish. No obvious alcohol.

D - Easy enough to drink, but reminds me of so-so homebrews I've tried. Just a largely inoffensive pale ale. You could drink a lot of this, although I don't know why you'd want to bother (unless this stuff is like $3 a bomber or something).

22oz bottle

A- Pours a slightly hazy golden orangish color with a nice off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. The beer looks great in the glass.

S- The aroma is faint pale malt and some citrusy hops as well. Not bad, the aroma is just a little on the faint side. I would have like a stronger hop presence in the nose.

T- The taste has quite a but more flavor than the aroma. The taste starts out with some malt up front and a nice dose of citrusy hops in the finish creating a lingering bitterness well into the finish.

M- The mouthfeel is between light and medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation.

D- Overall, not a bad Pale Ale at all. The only real weakness in my opinion is the aroma. Every other aspect of this brew is pretty solid. Worth a try!

Cocoa Beach Pale Ale came to me in a pint glass at the brewery, it is copper in color with an off white head. The aroma is nice and hoppy. The flavor has a nice hoppy character, the flavor tends toward pine tar without being overwhelming. There is a nice hoppy, dry finish. This is an enjoyable beer, definitely worth a try.

On-tap at Ale+Witch. It pours a golden-copper hue and is capped with some white froth, depositing a bit of lace. The nose, huh, what to say here. It smells like a homebrew, and not a very good one. Vaguely piney bitterness mingles with a vegetal-sweatsock aroma in the nose. It is actually less bad than it sounds, but still is not good at all. The flavor continues along the same lines, but seems to offer more of a wet cardboard thing than the sweatsock of the nose. It still is quite bad. I really want to like Cocoa Beach Pale Ale, but even the homer in me must acknowledge the failings of this brew.

Golden color with rich head and nice lace. Good retention. Nice looking beer. Smell is faint malts and fruity hops. Pretty plain jane. Better than BMC. I don't think its watery, but just moderate. Biscuity and fruity with a hint of pine. Very drinkable.
