Science will try to tell you that the tongue cannot detect more than 80 bittering units, but this hop centric imperial IPA will not leave you wanting more. So, have a seat and leave your worries to the Therapist.

The color is a 24k gold color. This beer has a citrus orangey, bite..smells of pine and citrus, slightly fruity smell..the taste is piney, citrusy hops, with a light-medium body that I like. Lots of carbonation, for high abv, which makes for a more pop and action to the mouth. Vibrant, fruity, bitter, resin apparent. Not too much diacetyle. Much bigger taste than smell.

A: perfectly transparent amber color. White head that lasts a while.

S: floral and very hoppy. A little citrus in there too.

T: citrusy and very hoppy. Very good malt taste too.

M: great smooth finish.

O: reminds me of Pliny the elder. A little hoppier and and a little less smooth, but I feel this is a great dipa.

22 oz bottle received as a trade extra.

Appearance: Rich gold with a touch of amber in the deeper parts of the glass. Very attractive. Little head, dissipates quickly, to be expected on a beer of this style with this abv.

Smell: Tropics, citrus, some grass in there. This beer truly has a bouquet.

Taste: Holy cow. Bitter chased with a great orange juice sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Excellent. Smoother than Simtra, meatier than Sculpin.

Overall: Highly under-rated beer. This is a more drinkable version of Simtra, which is one of my all-time favorites. Reminds me of Permanent Funeral if it were brewed by Russian River- lots of West Coast bitterness married to oranges, the malt only exists to make this beer feel good. I'll drink this any day.

Draft poured into a 16 oz. pint. Orange-amber color, though I was in a dimly lit bar. Small-to-medium amount of head. Strong floral presence in smell. Taste was reminiscent of Jasmine - floral notes with a bitter but smooth finish. Definite kick of alcohol towards the finish, and at 11% ABV no wonder! Overall, a very strong beer with powerful fruity flavors. If you have the means, I highly recommend it.

I've had this beer on tap locally here in Sacramento, and I regularly get it in bottles. It's a heavy Imperial IPA with a solid citrusy flavor, which is a tribute to the vast array of citrus grown in the region. It's got low carbonation, so there's no bite, and despite clocking in at 11% ABV it's not boozy at all. It pours clear, and is almost amber in color. It's smooth but mouthfeel is almost light for such a powerhouse of flavor. Very complex notes throughout, from start to finish. And when you're done, you'll realize you just got back-doored by The Rapist.

I'm new to the Dust Bowl brand, but I am quite impressed. There seems to be a new trend in hoppy double and triple IPAs recently and honestly most of them are all exactly the same. Therapist though, has a unique feel to it. It's appearance is a tan to copper coloring, about what you would expect from an IPA. For being as hoppy as it is, the smell of fresh cut grass and vegetation is not overly powering. Its aroma is gentle and somewhat sweet. The taste of this beer is where the real story is... it is very good. Most double and triple IPAs are overpowering and too intense to be enjoyed, whereas Therapist is relatively smooth and sweet, considering it is 10.4% ABV. The mouthfeel is above average, though it does seem to linger on the palette a bit, but nonetheless fresh and sweet. Picked this up on a whim while visiting Northern California and for $7.99 for a 22 oz. bottle, I do not feel let down. Having never even heard of Dust Bowl, I give them props on a great product and look forward to seeing if they get bigger.

On tap at Beer Revolution.

A: Pours a hazy burnt sunset orange body capped with a finger of off-white head. It retains well and leaves substantial sticky lace down the sides -- a testament to the strong hop oil content.

S: Bitter grapefruit rind and dank, weed-like growth. There is a moderate sugary sweetness in the nose, as well. It doesn't have the billowing hop aroma of Pliny the Younger or some other great Triple IPAs I've tried from the area, but I can see the similarity.

T: Good grapefruit hop presence, but it has a lot of wet, mossy, weed-like flavor in the finish that doesn't serve the style very well unless accompanied by sugary burn. There's relatively mild sweetness here -- I'd call it perfunctory, presumably to offset the bitterness a beer of this strength would have, but it fails to give the beer much character.

M: Sticky and oily up front. It has some initial bitterness, but it is quickly covered up by the malt sweetness. No heat, but there is a lingering, sticky oily hop presence with moderate astringency. It's not nearly as easy to down as Pliny the Younger. Oddly, it is a little below medium-bodied.

O: Not particularly great. I think I got an 8 oz pour and left half of it on the table. I absolutely love the name, though.

A true hop bomb. Bitter with a high ABV and stone fruit flavor. If you are looking for big hop flavors with a kick then look no more. I like it.

This is a very good Triple IPA/ Imperial IPA. The smell is citrusy with a hint of honey. The flavor is citrus and piny with bits of honey maltyness, tropical fruits and a bouquet of fresh melons. To spite the fact that this beer is 10.4% ABV, it has an awesome flavor and drinkablity that make its high alcohol hard to notice. However, the body of the beer is enough to help you take it a little slower and really take in all the flavors. This is a great West Coast IPA and is a must try if your ever in CA!

Got this from a trade super fresh and I was not disappointed.

A - Beautiful golden-orange color. Crystal clear with a bountiful white head and light lacing.

S - Strong hop fragrance with lots of resin, citrus, pine, and dank hops. Has some malt in the background but very fresh hop forward.

T - Awesome flavor with full resin punch and all of the big West-Coast DIPA hop flavors that I love. It is very fresh in flavor and has hoppy bitterness to accompany the sweeter malt background.

M - Moderate mouth-feel with moderate carbonation. Really perfectly balanced but there is significant bitterness that I enjoy but could be detracting.

Overall, a very delicious DIPA. I'm very glad that I got to try this brew. It is a pretty typical big West DIPA but this one really packs in the resin and is great. If you like Imperial IPAs this is a great one to try if you can get it! And this one really put me to bed so they aren't lying on the label.

Visited a buddy near Tracy and found this there. Funny...can't get it in the East Bay. Go figure.

Pours a relatively clear amber ale and a bright white foamy head. I mean white. Nicely done there. Just a very nice looking brew.

Was getting heavy pineapple on the aroma right after popping the cap. As it sits in the glass, I'm getting big hoppiness, citrus, malt, dank, pine and rubber. Much to smell here.

The taste is very malt/dank forward. Getting the sticky citrus flavor with an grapefruit rind swallow and aftertaste. Tis good. I used to suck on grapefruit rind and this brings me back. I like. Extremely juicy is the thing I think after every sip.

This is a big beer so proceed with caution. It's very drinkable, but catches up to the party fast. Big and bold and hearty. Worth seeking out. Happy to have one more and will be on the lookout for another...and another...and
