Can be the worst beer i've tried the last two years. Just absolutley horrible.

Overly sweet with that kind of buttery corn-syrup feel you get in cheap beers, low carbonation, almost standing still in the glass, strong aftertaste of alcohol.
This reminds me of one of those dirtcheap "xtra"-strong beers you can buy here in Sweden, which I never buy because they are horrible.

At 2,5 dollars a flask here in Sweden, this is a robbery, but not by you... by Baron Trenck. 1/5. Worst beer i've drank out of hundreds the last 2 years.

This beer comes in a long-necked brown 50 cl. bottle. The label is blue with text and a coat of arms of a two headed eagle.

A: The color is golden, and the head is enormous sizziling white. A bit unbalanced dissipation that leaves only little lacings.

S: Pure sweet malt, a bit bready. Then there's floral and bitter hops.

T: A lot like the smell. There's a dryness in the taste. Some citric notes.

M: Aftertaste is longlasting and dry/bitter.
Body as well as carbonation is medium.

D: Much better than most macrobeers, but not a great beer.

Dark mellow yellow colour, with a solid white head that sticks around as a thin layer on the top. Leaves good lacing.

Quite noticeably hoppy on the nose, with a pronounced aroma of rust. Some hints of phenolic fruits, bananas or bubblegum. Probably from the slight extra alcohol. Nice.

Taste is also phenolic, but without the crisp hop bite I might have expected. Instead, the alcohol is too prominent, leaving a rusty coppery flavour in the back, which is the only counterpoint to the overmalty entry. Mouthfeel is overcarbonated. Disappointing.

A shame, this beer could be better given what it looks and smells like. As it stands, it's a mediocre higher-gravity Czech pils that doesn't really deliver.

Baron Trenck is the big brother in Starobrno's family of great beers. The guy moved to the city and dressed up. Thanks to a little more alcohol it has a nice bite, and works well as a "mild relaxant" as they say in the Indian beer ad. But it doesn't have the annoying alcohol taste of some beers in this league. Behind the glittering label is a light yellow and bitterish beer that pours good. It has a full taste of bread with a twist of citrus, and smells of fruit, bread and toffee. It's definately an adult beer, and, like it's little brother, the ordinary lager, a safe bet if you ever find yourself perplexed in front of the shelves of Sweden's monopoly liquor store "Systembolaget".

The colour is gold; the off white foam forms a two slowly sinking finger thick head.

The smell is sweet and very malty. More like a German lager than a Czech pils if you ask me. In the background, there is a metallic bitterness.

The taste is harmonic with lots of full-bodied malt, maybe a bit roasted. There are alcoholic notes, as well as some bitter and aromatic hops, but the taste is unexpectedly neutral. The aftertaste is roasted and bitter with a lot of alcohol with flavours of rye crisp bread and some diacetyl.

The carbonation is strong with lots of medium bubbles, making the mouth feel almost sharp. But on the other hand, it is kind of refreshing.

I don’t know about this one… If I had reviewed it blindfolded, I probably would have guessed “A strong German lager” or “A well hopped Scandinavian strong lager”, but not a Czech one.

Hand-delivered from Prague to Moscow, my half-liter bottle is tall and brown, with a dark red, blue and silver label featuring nothing but words, and most of those in Czech. The ingredients list is in Czech, but I'll bet a few beers that "cukr" is sugar. Best before 3/26/04, I opened it on 3/3/04.

Nice deep, slightly orangish clear gold under a 2 finger off white head that settles very quickly, leaving just a bit of collar and no lace. The nose is fruity sweet. The mouth is fairly prickly and heavy sweet. The taste is a bit too sweet, lacking in a malt backbone. The hops are a bit on the harsh, metallic side, not typical Czech hops at all. The close brings out a bit smoother bitterness, but the overall impression is not very good. Disappointing...
