"This beer in the style of the Brno tradition has been the symbol of Moravia brewing art for centuries now. It has a light amber colour, a full flavour, and a drinkable lightness with a distinctive taste of hops."

The Co. makes at least 12 different brews, including:
Lager, Medium, Traditional, Dark Black and Tan Osma Fríí

Red Dragon Black Dragon Baron Trenck Schlossgold Zipfer

Light bright gold with a constant white head and good carbonation. A spicy, earthy Saaz aroma characteristic of the style. Good balance with a great Saaz-y taste. Medium bodied with a crisp, dry finish.

A great Czech Pils available at Trader Joe's for a great price! In my opinion, right up there with the best of the them including Urquell !

$3.99 for a 6-Pack of 12 fl.z. in Culver City, CA. BARGAIN !!!!But don't let the low price fool you - this is a very high quality Pilsner-type Lager all the way from Brno, Czech Republic. The perfect archetypal Gold Pilsner pours well with good carbonation and a huge 3" head. Lovely hoppy nose that just invites to down this beer on hot days. Bitterness is average, you can taste the Saaz hops, but they are perfectly balanced well with soft malt tastes. Well Rounded and Extremely Quaffable. In 1991, I back-packed aorund Europe on a "shoestring" Budget with a friend of mine after we finished we our respective Degrees. We stayed in Brno (it was cheap) and drank this in obscenely huge quantities in the Town, as well as at the Brewery, for 10 cents a half litre or something ridiculously stupid like that. In what was Czechoslovakia then - it was called StaroBrno 12 (they use the Degrees Plato). This lager takes me right back there. Bloody Good, and I am going back to Trader Joes tomorrow with my friends Pick-Up !!!!!!!

Comes in a tall brown half liter bottle with a classy but unimaginative label featuring nothing but lettering. All in English, by the way, although I bought my bottle in a Moscow grocery store. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 11/27/03, I opened it on 10/15/03.

Pours a clear reddish gold under a small, thin white head that settled quickly at about half a (small) finger, but then lingered quite nicely, leaving a bit of lace. The nose is marvellous - flower hops and a touch of honey. The mouth is prickly and medium-bodied, with a definite hoppy sensation to it. There's a touch of malt to the taste, but the hops are everywhere, flowery, sweet and bitter all at once. The finish features a good crisp bitterness that lingers into the delicious aftertaste. What a great beer!

A: Golden beer, with a thick, creamy, large, white head that stays for quite some time.

S: At first it's dry malt, and then you get a lot of floral hops. Nice and clean.

T: The first you sence is the nice blend of both bitter- and floralhops. Then there is a bit of maltiness to it. I also can sence green apples. A smooth, complex beer.

M: First there is a nice creamy tone as well as a tingeling sencation on the tounge. You can't overlook that this beer is a dry one.

D: A nice czech pilsener that stands out from others. This one is a great pilsener that has it all. I will buy this one again, and again, and again (I think you get what I mean)...

(500 ml brown bottle). Typical pilsener golden colour, large frothy head. Lovely Saaz aroma, the flavour has sufficient malts to balance the irresistibly crisp hoppy bitterness. This is another evidence that pilseners / lagers from big breweries do NOT have to taste like ...nothing. A great refreshment beer from our friends in Brno!

This is a good Czech pilsner, tasty, very clean, crisp, nicely balanced and refreshing, yet not as full-bodied or strongly flavoured as some.

It's slightly pale amber with a large, faintly off-white head that dissipates slowly to a thin top with a hint of lace.

The aroma is a nice pilsner smell - toasty grain, bread, hay, honey, hints of pine and herbs.

The taste is mostly herbal with honey, grain, hay, and a hint of fresh apple. It has great balance and starts with a smooth, silky honey sweetness with a little toasty bread, smoothly morhping into a tingly herbal, lightly bitter, finish that rides hints of hay, grass, and grain. It's very clean, yet flavourful and has nice sublte complexity, yet the flavours can easily be lost if it's tood cold or if one has, say, a cold.

One of the Wednesday Night Trivia crew was recently over in the Czech Republic for work and brought back some CANs for me. Once again, it pays to advertise and my thanks to Rod Shenk for the gift(s).

From the CAN: "Best beer in the whole of Moravia"; "Tenor is the secret of good souls"; "Crisp, mildly bitter taste".

The Crack revealed another brimful CAN and I went with an inverted Glug which netted a finger of fizzy bone-white head with limited retention. Color was a deep golden-yellow with NE-quality clarity and now Midas and Croesus were openly weeping in envy. Nose was redolent with snappy, grassy Saaz hops and I was in heaven. Nothing wrong with German Pils, per se, but give me a Czech Pils and I am sent. The intense carbonation rendered it very fizzy and cleansing on the tongue. I felt the old, tired taste buds being stripped away in its wake. The taste was quite clean, very grassy and refreshing. The finish was bone dry, just the way I prefer my Czech Pilsners. Man, this was probably going to be the winner of the lot! I could drink this pretty regularly.

Ok i bought a sixer of this at Trader Joes for only $4.49..was not expecting much.
Comes ina 12 oz euro style brown( thank goodness) bottle.
Pours a nice semi-dark golden colour with a monstrous frothy white head that threatens to overwhelm my glass..but quickly subsides..leaves a descent lacing.
Smell is of spicy hops as I would expect froma Czech lager..very fresh.
MM a simply lovelly taste, creamy in front then the zingy hops take over..nice very, "thick"..I like a lager thats not too thin and this is good.
Great on the palate thick and creamy yet exhilarating hops..great stuff.
Very drinkable indeed this hot June night!.
I recommend this lager highly ..if you in Trader Joes grab a six pack or two its a great deal.

Fine Czech lager. Its quality has not diminished in last 5-6 yrs and today I perefer it to Staropramen, Budweiswe/Czechvar and a couple of other classic beers. Nice color, rich malty taste, picturesque crown - everything you can expect from a premium golden lager from Moravia. Recommended!

Starobrno Premium, ABV: 5.0%.
330 ml bottle, 12.90 SEK at Systembolaget.

A: The beer pours bright amber, with a white head that leaves a nice ring.

B: Malty aroma with hints of citrus, butterscotch and grassy hops.

T: Nice malty flavours with notes of bread, butter, citrus, hay and floral hops. Large bitterness. Simple, but delicious. Yum-yum-yum.

M: Medium body. Average carbonation. Huge drinkability.

O: Starobrno has become a standard beer for me - it's bitter and tasty enough, but still very easy to drink several servings of - and it's even better on tap. To me it's best served amongst friends or with European sausage- or pork-based dishes.

Pours out pale yellow and sits a light orange-amber in the glass with a good sized white head with big lacings.

Smells quite sweet and malty with plenty of fruit aromas. Apples, golden raisins and melon all come to mind. Light, spicy hops in the back.

Tastes malty up front with nice sweetness to it. Caramel and light fruit flavors come out in front. Mild hop bitterness and a bit of peppery flavors hold down the sweetness and make for a nice bitter finish.

Very smooth in the mouth, and a soft, open carbonation. Medium body that melts in your mouth.

Highly drinkable, goes down very smooth. Another nice Czech lager.

Perhaps the most reliable Czech lager available in Sweden today. If you can't find what you're looking for in Systembolaget's shelves it is always there to save the day. I have tried it on tap as well. Nice amber color. Malty and bitter taste, with a streak of hops too. A definate bread taste and smell. It's a good beer but not good enough to swing over 4.

Nice solid pearl-white head with ample fluff.
It smells like lemon bread. There is a slight strawberry note buried within as well. On the palate it is crisp with sweet, ripe grain flavors that morph into nuts and the classic toated bread flavor of Bohemia. Clean, good quality water flavor in the finish. Slightly dilute.

Pours a very attractive honey golden color- darker than many pilsners I have seen. A large head of big bubbles- I don't find this as nice as the small, evenly sized bubbles. But overall nice appearance.

Aroma: Gentle, very nice aroma of flowers and bread with honey and butter. Not sweet, but it is just pleasant.

Flavor: the aroma follows through. Minimal hops bite- some, but not much. Found a little orange citrus as well. This is a nice edition.

Mouthfeel- nicely creamy. I like this brew!

A: Clear, bright golden yellow color. Poured a thin fizzy white head, but had fair retention. Light, inconsistent lacing. decanted continuously.

S: Sweet malt, grains and cut grass. Lightly bitter.

T: Clear grain flavor. Fresh hop bitter character especially in the finish.

M: Medium body (especially for a pils). Ample carbonation. Crisp, dry and clean.

D: Definitely drinkable. Clean and refreshing. This was a good find - better than the average euro-lager/pils.

A: Dark golden brown with a thick 1.5 inch head. A tad orangy.

S. Fresh malt smell, on the light side and slightly sweet.

T: Full bodied for a Pilsner, full flavored, slightly bitter after taste. Honey, malt, herbs. Maybe just slightly too bitter.

M: Smooth then sparkly.

D: Overall excellent, but perhaps not for massive drinking like most pilsners.

Pours a good looking clear golden color.

Smell is grain and malts and a pleasant floral hop scent.

Taste is mildly sweet and a bit soapy from the hops used. No off tastes detected, hops give a floral and grass flavor and a decent bitterness.

Mouthfeel is good.

A nice drinkable brew a good Pilsner.

12 ounce brown bottles...nice to see! A hard pour produces a beautiful just slightly off-white head that settles over deep golden clear liquid. Nose is typically lagerish, sweet wisps of malt and a grassy hop aroma greet the sniffer. The taste is where the charm lies with this one: smooth mouthfeel with a nice soft maltiness, delicate and subtle hop floweriness wash over the palate, finishing up clean, fresh and begging another sip. This was better than I was expecting, a nice and easy drinkinf Lager with a bit more taste than the others in its catagory. A great session beer, recommended!

A nice clean tasting beer that goes down very nicely. A good looking beer with a light golden hue and nice white head that laces rather thinnly, but remains consistent. There is a good delicate balance of the grain and hops combination. It does not overpower in any single department. Clean and crisp sense with a pleasant aroma. Nicely bottled and labeled. Try this, you may like it also.
