Pollen-laden goldenrod with a single stream of carbonation leading to a manila colored cap. The foam is so dense that even with a furious rate of bubble poppage, it has lost very little height in the several minutes since the pour. The amount of lace looks to be more than a little and less than a lot. Not a bad look.
The nose is standard issue Euro pale lager. It isn't hoppy enough, in my book at least, to be taken seriously as a pilsener. There's a little musky fruitiness to go along with the noble hops. It's low on grassy aromas and even lower on floral ones.
On the palate we're talking run-of-the-mill EPL. There's an acceptable amount of malt, or at least it seems so given the relative lack of hops. The flavor profile does nothing to stand out from the crowds (make that hordes) of lagers that are pale and European. Whatever slight fruitiness I appreciated in the nose is nowhere to be found when the beer comes in contact with my taste buds.
The end is as pedestrian as the beginning and the middle and is (thankfully) brief. This isn't bad beer necessarily, it's just supremely uninteresting beer. The mouthfeel is medium in heft and might feel a half notch lighter if the carbonation was more lively. I'm all for subdued levels of C02 (in most styles), but this one needs a few more bubbles to add some perkiness.
I didn't expect much from Starobrno and that's exactly what I got. One never knows when one of these unheralded Czech lager/pils will exceed all expectations and will actually be good. Unfortunately, this isn't one of those times. Pass.

500 mL brown bottle, 5 months until best before date.
Pours a dark straw colour with a creamy white head that disappears fairly quickly.
Aroma is malty with spicy and floral hops.
Big biscuity malt flavour dominates, barely letting the hops through near the end. Hops are spicy and leave a pleasant lingering bitterness. Much sweetness throughout. Carbonation is high, and the mouthfeel is thick and a bit sticky.
Enjoyable, but a bit unbalanced, lacking the hops necessary to cut the sugary flavour.

I've really been in a Pilsner mood lately, so I'm out trying as many as I can get my hands on. 500ml bottle poured into a pilsner glass...
Pours with a huge head, colour is a bit darker than a lot of the Euros I've been drinking lately, looks like it has a bit of body. Nose is a bit unexpected, more hoppy and less malty, has a nice earthy balance. First taste is very good, a pleasant blend of Grassy hops, earthy/nutty malt flavours and a bit more bitterness than I expected, which is quite welcome. Sticks in the mouth and the throat, lots of nice bite on the tongue. I think this an above-average pilsner, quite drinkable, and better than most that I've been tasting lately.

Starobrno Czech Premium Lager pours a golden copper from a 12oz dark brown glass bottle. Head went to over two fingers, then turns rocky on the way down to a firm cap of foam and lots of lace down the sides of my 22oz beer glass.
Nose is a toasted malt with just a bit of hay and cut grass.
Palate is a wonderful toasted and hops bittered barley malt with the bight of carbonation.
Crisp and clean in the palate and pipes, Starobrno Czech Premium Lager will find its way back into my beer glass soon, real soon.

Perhaps the most reliable Czech lager available in Sweden today. If you can't find what you're looking for in Systembolaget's shelves it is always there to save the day. I have tried it on tap as well. Nice amber color. Malty and bitter taste, with a streak of hops too. A definate bread taste and smell. It's a good beer but not good enough to swing over 4.

Light copper in colour with a good amount of carbonation. Strong saaz aromas with a little bit of malt in the background. Its got a nice sharp bitterness, but the flavors are dominated by some very plain malt notes. Similar to Pilsner Urquell, but not quite as good. Overall, it's fairly solid and quite drinkable, but nothing great.

Dark gold, slightly orange color with a bery small complete layer of head on top of the beer. Not much in the nose, except some tart grassy malts. Taste is full and grassy, with an ok hops finish. Tastes much like any other czech pilsner, riding out grassy malts for the bulk of the flavor. OK, but no better than most of the others.

Had this one on-tap at the Bohemian Beer Hall in Queens.
My 1/2 liter sample poured with a white head and a decent amount of lacing as it went down the glass.
The aroma was only faintly hoppy, with notes of carapils malt and a bit of corn.
The taste had a decent balance, but shifted to a sharp bitterness of unsubstantiated hops in the finish.
The beer was light to medium bodied.
It would be a drinkable brew, except for the shift in the balance...

Pours a brilliantly clear full gold color and is topped by a frothy off white head that is held up by a persistent carbonation. The aroma has notes of sweet grain, fresh cut grass, a lightly spicy herbal note and some toasted bread notes. This beer is nice and crisp with a dry finish that has a nicely balanced bitterness to it. This beer is a nice refreshing beer that is a good quaff for a hot afternoon. As this beer warms up a bit a sweet light maltiness comes to the fore. Overall this is a nice simplistic, crisp, clean beer.

This suprisingly hoppy Czech pilsner pours out a deep amber color with a small head. The smell is all malt, lots of fruit including tomatoes and dates and some biscuit and grain.
Tastes of fruit in the very front followed soon afterward by grainy malt and nice hop bitterness that ends with more dry hops. Not very complex, but nice.
This here a simple beer that goes down smooth. Would be a great session ale were it not for the high price tag.

02/23/05- Purchased at Trader Joes in San Francisco, CA
Presentation- 12oz bottle with no dates. Poured into my 16oz glass mug.
Appearance- Light yellow, almost orange colored pour. Pours with a pretty big white foamy large bubbled head. Next to no lacing.
Smell- Moderate malt and a decent amount of grain to go with it.
Taste- Kind of similar to the last beer I just had (Topvar), but not as sweet in the malt area. A bit salty.
Mouthfeel- Moderate to lower carbonation.
Drinkability- Again, not a bad lager. Would choose several over this one, but if given a choice between this or a macro I would take this one any day of the week.

I am not usually a fan of pilsners but this is a pretty good one for sure. Poured a little darker than your average pils with a small white head that faded quickly. The smell was of sweet malts and grain. The taste was good and reminded me of a amber ale and a pils mixed together. It had a little fuller body with some good malty sweetness to it like an amber but still had a light hop bite and some grainyness to it. All in all a good pils for certian occations.

Pours out pale yellow and sits a light orange-amber in the glass with a good sized white head with big lacings.
Smells quite sweet and malty with plenty of fruit aromas. Apples, golden raisins and melon all come to mind. Light, spicy hops in the back.
Tastes malty up front with nice sweetness to it. Caramel and light fruit flavors come out in front. Mild hop bitterness and a bit of peppery flavors hold down the sweetness and make for a nice bitter finish.
Very smooth in the mouth, and a soft, open carbonation. Medium body that melts in your mouth.
Highly drinkable, goes down very smooth. Another nice Czech lager.

Pours a good looking clear golden color.
Smell is grain and malts and a pleasant floral hop scent.
Taste is mildly sweet and a bit soapy from the hops used. No off tastes detected, hops give a floral and grass flavor and a decent bitterness.
Mouthfeel is good.
A nice drinkable brew a good Pilsner.

Pours a very attractive honey golden color- darker than many pilsners I have seen. A large head of big bubbles- I don't find this as nice as the small, evenly sized bubbles. But overall nice appearance.
Aroma: Gentle, very nice aroma of flowers and bread with honey and butter. Not sweet, but it is just pleasant.
Flavor: the aroma follows through. Minimal hops bite- some, but not much. Found a little orange citrus as well. This is a nice edition.
Mouthfeel- nicely creamy. I like this brew!

The color as it sets in the glass a deep translucent gold with a modest, frothy and bright white head, lace is a thin sheet upon the glass. Nose is malt sweet, crisp and clean, start is also quite sweet and fair malt presence, top is quite thin. Finish is sternly acidic, hops present and pleasing to the palate, very dry aftertaste, a drinkable beer, and once again a decent palate cleaner.

Appearance: golden yellow, sturdy two finger head that lingered well
Smell: nice blast of sweet malt that had me anticipating...
Taste: what happened? where did it go? The smell was followed by a very bland malt taste, bitterness came racing through at the finish and lingered, uninvited, dissappointing
Mouthfeel: OK, a bit astringent
Drinkability: Could drink many on a hot day, but that's not saying much
Comment: tasted blind, head to head with Urquell which kicked it's butt

A pretty nice find here,I havent found to much luck getting good Czech beer.Pours a nice deeper golden color with a light wispy head, aroma was a little skunked so Iam not gonna give it a real low score it was in the cooler for awhile I imagine. The taste came thru pretty well though,a nice sweeter edge to it a light bready malty tinge to it with the hops coming thru nicely to give it a pretty good bitter finish there is also light mineral-like quality to it.Hey a nice find would love to try fresh.

(500 ml brown bottle). Typical pilsener golden colour, large frothy head. Lovely Saaz aroma, the flavour has sufficient malts to balance the irresistibly crisp hoppy bitterness. This is another evidence that pilseners / lagers from big breweries do NOT have to taste like ...nothing. A great refreshment beer from our friends in Brno!

Comes in a tall brown half liter bottle with a classy but unimaginative label featuring nothing but lettering. All in English, by the way, although I bought my bottle in a Moscow grocery store. Ingredients conform to the purity law. Best before 11/27/03, I opened it on 10/15/03.
Pours a clear reddish gold under a small, thin white head that settled quickly at about half a (small) finger, but then lingered quite nicely, leaving a bit of lace. The nose is marvellous - flower hops and a touch of honey. The mouth is prickly and medium-bodied, with a definite hoppy sensation to it. There's a touch of malt to the taste, but the hops are everywhere, flowery, sweet and bitter all at once. The finish features a good crisp bitterness that lingers into the delicious aftertaste. What a great beer!

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with a freshness date on the back label.
Appearance: The amber tinged golden colour holds a decent clarity and a ring of lacing.
Smell: Sweet malt and fresh grassy grain aroma, clean spicy herbal hop smell as well.
Taste & Mouthfeel: A little coarse around the hop bitterness, the hop character tastes somewhat fresh. The graininess gets thick middle to end. Ghost like beef broth and a tad salty on the tongue. Quite solid on the malt side and not to light and crisp, more of a fuller bodied Czech Pils.
Notes: An above par Czech lager, certainly a notch above the ordinary boring Euro-Lager. I paired this one with some Kielbasa over beer braised cabbage.

Ok i bought a sixer of this at Trader Joes for only $4.49..was not expecting much.
Comes ina 12 oz euro style brown( thank goodness) bottle.
Pours a nice semi-dark golden colour with a monstrous frothy white head that threatens to overwhelm my glass..but quickly subsides..leaves a descent lacing.
Smell is of spicy hops as I would expect froma Czech lager..very fresh.
MM a simply lovelly taste, creamy in front then the zingy hops take over..nice very, "thick"..I like a lager thats not too thin and this is good.
Great on the palate thick and creamy yet exhilarating hops..great stuff.
Very drinkable indeed this hot June night!.
I recommend this lager highly ..if you in Trader Joes grab a six pack or two its a great deal.

Nice head (foamy and sticks all the way to the bottom), clear golden colour, nice smelling (hoppy and floral), good bitterness on the palate, but it was a bit edgy in taste at times, but i still liked it. Not the best Czeck pils, but a pretty solid one anyway, not bad.

12 ounce brown bottles...nice to see! A hard pour produces a beautiful just slightly off-white head that settles over deep golden clear liquid. Nose is typically lagerish, sweet wisps of malt and a grassy hop aroma greet the sniffer. The taste is where the charm lies with this one: smooth mouthfeel with a nice soft maltiness, delicate and subtle hop floweriness wash over the palate, finishing up clean, fresh and begging another sip. This was better than I was expecting, a nice and easy drinkinf Lager with a bit more taste than the others in its catagory. A great session beer, recommended!
