The atmosphere here varies and is fair. I have been here numerous times over the years at different times, day and night. Day time is relaxed and night time is just as nice. They have a nice outdoor seating area, and inside they have a bar area and an indoor eating area as well. The quality of what they offer here, in terms of food and beer, is above average for a bar restaurant in Bellingham. I have no complaints with the service. The selection is outstanding. I actually had Pelican, Mother of All Storms on tap here a couple of days ago. What a great barleywine to find on tap in Bellingham. The Copper Hog usually has something special on tap. This time around the food was very good. In the past, I have had one or two disappointing experiences here. Value is reasonable.

I have to come here more often.

Keep up the good work Cooper Hog.

Bellinghamsters know that the Copper Hog is stellar. 15 or so constantly rotating taps always offer a wide variety of the best local brews, special releases from well-known craft breweries like Deschutes, New Belgium, North Coast, etc., and only the best from beer makers you've never heard of before. Typically at least a dozen totally different styles are represented. And the food is so fucking tasty. Every menu item is delicious. If you are a foodie and love to try new things, there is some innovative cheffing going on in the kitchen. If you want bar food staples, the Copper Hog's burgers, rueben, fries, brat, etc are all spectacular as well. Good place to watch futbol and football. Good place to sit down for a meal. The beer list and food offerings change often so there is always a reason to return if you want new experiences. Shoot maybe I should make them pay me for this kind of promotion.

Was in Bellingham for the week for work so stopped by twice for dinner. The food was tasty. I went there twice so I was impressed enough the first time I went back again. Had the Bangers and Mash and the Steak Patsy. Both were solid, not to die for but I would order either one again.

The beer selection was good. A wide variety of types and different brewerys. It is mainly Northwest beers with a few Belgians thrown in to round out the selection. There is really something for everyone. Plus they have a full bar.

The service was also good. The first night the bartender was really knowledgeable and really friendly. They had Echte Kriekenbier on tap and there was a lady there that tried it and really liked it so he pulled out a bottle of something else sour and cracked that open for them to try. Good to see a place spreading the knowledge. The second time the bartender was more about making drinks it seemed but he was also friendly and provided good service.

This seems like it would be a good place if you have a lot of different people to please. It is not only a nice beer selection in addition good food plus a full bar and wine. A little something for everyone.

Part of my tour of Bellingham visit the other day, the Copper Hog is a very spacious, slightly more upscale beer bar in the downtown area. As one walks in, the good size bar area is a bit to the left in front of you, with a goodly amount of tables interspersed around. There are also some pool tables and dart board areas here I believe, and the place has plenty of dark wood. This place has a comfortable vibe, with a couple of TV's for watching sporting events and soccer matches over the bar area.

From what I could tell, the CH seems to have between 15 and 20 tap handles, with a constantly rotating selection. Something that also surprised me was that the bar had a dedicated delirium tremens tap handle tower, not something you tend to see all that often in the NW. Otherwise, the chalk board to the left of the bar showed a diverse selection of mostly local and regional micros, that I gather changes pretty frequently.

Service was OK I thought, and we never had to wait long to get a fresh glass of beer from the young and friendly staff. Didn't have a chance to try the food, but what I saw on the menu looked pretty good. Prices were OK I thought, with a pint and smaller schooner glass of craft beer going for $8.

Fact is, this is a pretty nice beer bar and would probably be some place I might consider if I wanted to sit and watch a sporting event while enjoying a decent tap selection. However, given the other options in town (Boundary Bay, Green Frog, etc.), I'm not sure how often I'd stop by here otherwise. For such a small (relatively speaking) town, it truly is amazing how many very good places there are to grab a beer. This place looks to be just one more.

A nice enough room the atmosphere suffers from having too many large glass windows open to the outside. The bar and tables are an attractive deep wood and overall a comfortable spot.

The quality of service varies greatly with who you get as a server, but several of the weaker ones have been weeded out recently so hopefully service is improving. A nice rotating selection of regional, national and international brands are always on tap, with cocktails available.

The food is very good, if on the pricey side. I recommend the happy hour menu which features $2.00 sliders of the BLT, Bison Burger and Ahi varieties.

Overall a good place to have few beers and a snack or a meal.

Edit 12/21/10.

The Hog has been open almost 3 years now and it's time for an update. The staff has settled in and become fairly stable, so service is now very good, even during the busiest of times.

Sadly, the sliders are now off the menu. But there Corn Dog lollipops, house made sausage covered in corn batter and deep fried which are excellent, as are the Hog Wings, pork shanks.

The beer selection rotates constantly and you can always find something that you're in the mood for. Even me, who can get a bit picky.

Overall, a great addition to the Bellingham beer and food scene.
