My wife and I visited here on our 2-week trip to Europe, and this was by far the highlight of our trip! Probably the only place, where we were the only tourists, everyone else was locals.

They are open for Friday, Saturday and Sunday dinner, not during the day, as my wife and I arrived early only to find they weren't open.

We made our reservation for 7, which was when they opened, which might be too early. Wally didn't start his performance till 9-9:30ish. The food was good, as long as you like pork, and just a note THERE ARE NO FORKS, you eat/cut/everything with a knife. Also, the wait staff didn't speak English well/at all, so brush up on your French!

Wally was entertaining and comical all at the same time. My wife and I didn't last till the end, we left at 11:45 and the party was still hopping!

Beers we had were St. Bernadus 12, 3 Monts, and a Brigand, all served in the proper glassware of course.

I cannot recommend this place enough, it was the highlight of our trip, and we have told all of our friends about it. Hope to return one day!

I went to Wally's farm in June this year as part of a three country European beer trip. After staying in France for a few days, we took the trains to Poperinge to check out In De Vrede. We stayed in town for 2 nights, and checked out as many bars in the area as we could while we were there. I had heard about Wally's farm online, and made it a stop on our second night.

Wally's is a farmhouse converted to a restaurant/beer bar on a beautiful plot of land just outside of town. You enter the property to find a big replica of the statue of liberty in front of rows of hops that form a corridor to the bar itself. The inside is full of American rock and roll memorabilia, mostly Elvis.

Wally performs on stage on the weekends, doing covers of songs from Elvis, willy nelson, carl perkins, etc... He's a real character, and the show is worth the trip alone.

If you're hungry, and you like Pork, you'll be very satisfied with the food. If you don't like pork, eat somewhere else. The menu is Pork chop, pork sausage, or porkchop/sausage combo. That's it! We got the combo, and it was both huge and delicious. It's cooked over a wood fire in a brick oven inside. Pretty neat.

The beer list is pretty extensive, serving all the local belgian favorites. Wally also has a house beer, brewed for him by Van Eeck; "wally's beer". The inside of the bar has dried hops all over, and vintage hop farming equipment, and posters from hop festivals that have been held in Poperinge in the past. Pretty neat.

He takes a lot of pride in his hop farming roots, and maintains a really interesting hop museum on the property. After Wally had finished his set, he took us on a private tour of the museum, showing us how hop farming has evolved over the past few hundred years. He has a pretty extensive collection of antique hop farming equipment. It was special to see. He showed us a cot he used to sleep on with his dad when he was a kid in the 50's during the hop harvest season, as well as photos taken on the family farm in the 50's. After our private tour, he decided that it was too far of a walk for us to take back to tow so late at night, so he insisted that we let him drive us back to our hotel.

Although I saw and did a lot of great things in Europe, my trip to Wally's stands out as one of my favorites.

Great guy, great show, excellent atmosphere, good food, great beers, and the hospitality was off the charts.

If I get the chance to return to Poperinge, I will definitely return to see Wally (and his lovely wife Patty) again.

Recommended!
