Nice English pub in Bethel at the Briar Lea Inn. Very cozy, and authentic feeling. Usually around 6 or 7 decent offerings on tap. A few drafts I've found on tap in the past include DFH 90 & 120 Minute, Stone Arrogant Bastard, Weyerbacher Double Simcoe, and Smuttynose Finestkind. There is usually a decent IPA option, and there are some Brittish standards like Old Speckled Hen & Smithwicks always on line. You can find a nice selection of bottles including some large formats like Delirium Tremens, Piraat Golden Ale & a couple offerings from Unibroue. They are also the only bar in the area to offer beers on cask, usually a Gritty's Bitter, however the last time I ordered one it wreaked of sulfur. I'm sure it was just that batch of Gritty's but when I sent it back the waitress asked if I was used to bitter beers, and questioned my opinion.

Another time I asked for a half pour of a strong beer, and was refused. No biggie, but I go pretty regularly, so it would have been nice. The previous owners allowed that option.

Food is traditional English Pub style, and is always great. Great burgers (go Monday night for $5 burger night), fish & chips, curry dishes, English Wellies, Bangers & Mash, etc. Pass on the fries in favor of potato pancakes, very good. One of my favorite items are the Tikka Masala wings. Go in and get an order of those with a strong Double IPA and you'll be all set.

Overall, it can be a little hit or miss, but the food is always good, and you can't beat the atmosphere. And don't go if it's before 5pm. Let me know if you're in town, we'll go grab a pint!

Awesome little English-style pub at the Briar Lea Bed and Breakfast. We were in Sunday River for a class reunion and the resort was sorely lame on beer selections, so we decided to check out this place.

Summer hours are limited, they open at 4 or 5p.

Hot night! Outside deck was full, so we sat in the pub. A little cooler in there but not much. Not a huge tap line up but what they had was all good. Some Alagash, Gritty's Pub Ale on cask, and a variety of English and Irish ales. Bottle list was pretty good too. Food was heavy on the English including some curry. What we had was all delish.

Wanted to go back a second time, but once the reunion festivities got going, driving over the next two days became a little bit of a luxury ;-)

The Jolly drayman is a bed and breakfast about ten minutes from Sunday River. Wasn't expecting much when I walked in and then I saw Weyerbacher Double Simcoe on tap..was shocked. Another time this tap was Dogfish Head 120 IPA...was shocked again. They also have Gritty's on cask. There were at least 20 bombers available including Dutchy's Organic and a couple from Unibroue. Owners were very friendly and are clearly beer lovers...well worth stopping in for a few after skiing all day.

It's across and just down the street from the irving gas station on the way to the mountain right on 26 North.
