This is a nice, flowery, zesty, full-bodied pilsner type.

This is deep gold with a white head that is thin from the start but lasts a long time and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is yeast with strong, nutty grain and herb. It is very nice and aromatic.

It taste is of sweet, malty, toasty, nutty grain with bitter hop qualities of pine, herbs, and lemon that just barely dominate the beer, through to a lively and balanced finish of bitter hops and sweet, nutty grain.

Although light and highly drinkable, it has great balance and a lot of subtle character and complexity in the tradition of many full-bodied Czech lagers/pilsner that are often, to me, comparable to a good English bitter or ESB-type.

A - Pours a golden straw perfectly unclouded, with a fizzy white head that left a single sticky ring of lacing.

S - Crisp wheat and straw aromas, a bit of cirtus and mainly clean earthy character.

T - Clean wheat and light malt flavoring dominate the taste with a bit of herbal undertones.

M - Light and crisp with a refeshing clean finish.

D - Easy to drink and pleasant on a hot day.

The was the 5% version purchased from Corti Bros in Sacramento. Poured a clear gold with nice white head and good lacing. Nose of caramel malts and floral hops. Smooth and clean mouthfeel. Flavor of mals and some more hops, these a little grassy. Finish is mild and slightly bitter. Pretty decent beer.

Pours a very light amber gold with a good off-white head. Nose is cereal sweet. Flavor is sweet and smooth with a deeper character than you might expect. Feel is good. Nice level of bubble. Smooth on the tongue. Extremely drinkable. This is one to have stocked for you or your light beer loving, non-beer-geek friends.

A czech pilsner? It's a good beer, but it's not like the others I've had. The aroma is sweet, bready and clean, but almost Belgian-like. The flavors is also a bit too clean. The hops are there, but not as in-your-face as others. The rougher, grassier hops don't come through until the aftertaste so that the first hops note is more like an American citrus rind hop. The malt also doesn't seem quite right for a pilsner. There's a touch of caramel over pale malts that altogether comes off more like an amber lager.

Bottom line is that this is a nice beer, but I'd call it a high-end Euro pale lager, not a so-so pilsener.

This was poured from the bottle into a pilsner flute. It has a clear golden color with a decent head that is well retained. Barley malt dominates the aroma with a faint trace of hops. The flavor is clean and, like the aroma, dominated by a strong barley malt presence. Hops are present but noted mostly on the finish. It's very clean. It has a medium body with moderate carbonation.

Overall this is a decent Czech pilsner. However, I usually prefer my pilsner(s) a little lighter though, especially on a hot day like today. It's a bit grainy also for other choices in the style.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a golden yellow color with a large fluffy white head with beautiful retention and lacing. The aroma is largely comprised of doughy malt. The taste is malt with a delightfully dry and spicy finish from the hops. Overall, this is a pretty tasty Czech Pils that I wouldn't mind having again.

A- Pours a gold color into my pilsner glass, with a couple finger, tight head that settles to a ring in a few minutes.

S- Grain fields, white corn, dry, beautiful beer. Smells like a pilsner should.

T- Slightly sweet malt up front, that fades to a caramel, and then corn and white bread and yeast. Very faint alcohol and hops in the finish that leaves the grain taste in your mouth.

M- Watery and thin, with medium carbonation and a smooth, long, perfect finish.

D- So wonderful. I could drink this all day and all night.

Klaster Premium

Served from a 1 PT .09 FL OZ bottle.

Poured somewhat dark amber. Fluffy white lace quickly faded. In my opinion, it has a taste similar to Leffe, a Belgium beer. It is very drinkable. Has slight carmel and then berry notes. The mouthfeel is pleasant and not overbearing by any means. Overall, a great beer. If your looking for other Czech beers, check out Golden Pheasant. A another great beer to accompany a hardy eastern European meal.

Klaster was found at Binny's in River Grove, IL

Pours a clear straw color, about the standard for Czech lagers. A fluffly white head appears with quick dissipation. A bit of buttery notes come through as well as floral hops, but overall quite clean. Flavor, again is standard, and though unremarkable, good for a Czech pilsener: a balance of hops and crystal malts. A bit more body than Urquel, but certainly very comparable. This was a nice new choice recommended as an alternative to Urquel for this unseasonably hot day. Would be great with most summer fair off the grill or some pizza, as well as a thirst quencher on a hot day.

Pours a clear, bright, perfect gold with bone-white bubbles around the collar of the beer. Not too much of a head, but still pretty. Aromas of fresh Saaz sea-air, with little in the way of malt backing. I do believe that my sample is getting slightly oxidized already -- this needs to be drunk as soon as the bottle is opened! On the palate, invigorating bitterness that sticks to the top of the mouth is laid over a sweet malt base. It's the perfect juxtaposition of sweet, bready-dough malts and zippy, acidic hops that pilsner is famous for. Mouthfeel is superb, even for the style. Ultra smooth malts coat the tongue, and the hop oils seem attracted to the roof of the mouth. The result is a sandwich of intermingling sensations, with the middle getting the best of it. Overall, this is a wonderful pilsner. Smooth and racy at the same time, it's an excellent session beer and food beer. Excellent all around.

This beer is light golden in color and there is little head. Some lacing is left in the glass. The smell is slightly hoppy and grainy. The taste is somewhat bitter, relativly smooth. The mouthfeel is creamy and the beer is tolerable. I wouldn't mind drinking a few of these on a hot afternoon.

A - Pours out a straw yellow color. Highly carbonated with a small head. No lacing.

S - Grass, grains and corn are the dominant aromas.

T - It had a bittersweet taste. The corn flavor came through and it was a little toasty.

M - It was crisp and light-bodied.

D - I was impressed. I had never heard of this beer but I really liked it. The appearance an smell was not very good but it tasted quite nice.

I love a good Czech Pilsner and I would argue this is a pretty damn good one. Has a nice gold appearance with a large white head that dissipates quickly leaving a moderate amount of lacing. Has a good grainy, citrus smell. Has a very crisp malt and finishes with great hop flavors. Very drinkable, not expensive a good beer like most decent Czech Lagers. I would definitely say worth a try.

Poured into a pilsner glass. Nice foamy head and good golden hue. The aroma is of saaz hops and a slight biscuit, bread, malt mix. The taste has a little hops bite upfront followed by a sweet corny, bready, doughy flavor that is not overly apparent. The body is light and thin. Not a better example of Czech pilsner IMO. One thing I noticed is that the bottle that I purchased, which has a best before date of October 2006, the alcohol content was listed as 5.0%. Different from the listed ABV here, but the bottles look exactly the same.?

12 oz. bottle with no freshness date and a very foreign label - served chilled in a pilsner glass. It pours a crystal-clear deep gold with light carbonation and a 2 finger off-white head that leaves fairly good lacing. It has a light aroma with a light sweetness, spicy hops and a touch of cardboard with a flavor that mimics it, on top of a light body that leaves a short finish. As it is, it's average at best, but it could be past its prime.

Pours a clear gold. The substantial head is impressively creamy. Rings of lace line the glass. I've rarely seen pilsners that look this good.
The aroma is bready and hoppy with just a hint of sweetness.
The taste has a nice, strong bitterness. It's got an unexpected fresh hop character that's balanced by just the right amount of bready malts.
Highly drinkable. A pilsner that doesn't require a hot summer day for it to be enjoyed.

This beer gives reason to constantly explore pilsners. I'll probably use this one as a benchmark for all others. Solid and highly recommended.

Klášter Premium Traditional Czech Lager imported from the Czech Republic pours with three fingers of creamy white head over a clear dark golden lager body with substantial carbonation that leaves lace.

Aromas are of morovian malts and enticing Saaz Hops that dry the honeylike sweetness of the malts. Enough bitterness in finish for good balance. Medium body with a velvet mouthfeel that is not slick. From the shelves of Lucas in Ellisville, Mo.

Deserving of the name PREMIUM emblazened in red on the label.

Klaster is malty, herbal and floral, and stoically bitter. It's velvety smooth and supple but firm. Each of its components resonate in the finish. Very well brewed. Superbly rounded. And excellent pilsner that offers enough character to keep your attention for more than one or two, and is equally easy enough to drink that that's not a problem!

Garish goldenrod with a small number of small bubbles ascending lazily to the attractive cap. The foam is somewhere between French vanilla and simple white in color, is bubblyfirm and lays down a less than impressive array of sudsy lace. There's a more substantial short collar once the head has melted into a thick puddle on top of the beer and a few fat rings appear once the drinking begins.

The aroma is better than average, although I'm not tempted to ladle on the praise. It's pretty well-balanced, with a respectable amount of sweet pale malt (that manages to avoid smelling grainy), along with a roughly equivalent amount of gentle, mildly musky Saaz hops.

The flavor follows the path laid down by the appearance and the aroma: good, but not great. Considering the nose, I'm a little surprised at the amount of hoppiness. Premium is sharply bitter and delights in stomping all over its malt support. Less bitterness and more Saaz flavor would go a long way toward making it more palatable.

I don't get the sense that I'm drinking old beer, although with no label or bottle date it's hard to know for sure. The hop flavor tastes stale, as opposed to fresh and bright. The brewers have managed to wring every last alpha acid out of every last hop cone, but they haven't managed to do the same for the lupulin esters. Grassy > floral > spicy.

Because the malt loses its composure so completely, the beer is ultra clean and is parchingly dry on the finish. Looks like a little water is in order to rehydrate the mucous membranes. The body is a few clicks shy of medium and the initially lively carbonation is... still lively.

I wasn't hugely impressed by Klaster Dark and I'm not hugely impressed by its paler brother. I like bitter as much as the next hophead, but this beer is a tad too harsh and unrefined for me. Worth a look if you're a Czech Pils freak, but probably not if you're not.

A solid Pilsner. Pours out to a rich golden color with a small white foam head. Some lace, medium to medium low carbonation. Aromas of floral hops and sweet grain fill the nose, with malt notes lingering about. Taste is medium bodied and wonderfully simple; malty yeast, fresh leafy hops, grain. Nice. Mouthfeel is crisp and refreshing, but a touch more carbonation would have been welcomed. Good drinkability. Another solid beer for the summer months ahead. Recommended.
