22 ounce bottle. This beer has a clear golden color with a huge, chunky head and vigorous carbonation. Malt and lemongrass aroma. Some zesty hops. Bready malt flavor. A little sweetness initially, but not the nasty sweetness found in many American lagers. In the middle it becomes bitter and lemony. Saaz hop finish. Clean, crisp flavor. Thicker than most pils, which is fine by me. This is a mighty tasty beer, and at $1.39 for a 22 ounce bottle it's a great deal.

Klášter Premium Traditional Czech Lager imported from the Czech Republic pours with three fingers of creamy white head over a clear dark golden lager body with substantial carbonation that leaves lace.

Aromas are of morovian malts and enticing Saaz Hops that dry the honeylike sweetness of the malts. Enough bitterness in finish for good balance. Medium body with a velvet mouthfeel that is not slick. From the shelves of Lucas in Ellisville, Mo.

Deserving of the name PREMIUM emblazened in red on the label.

Klaster Lager: Wow, was I impressed with this Czech beer. Deep golden color, with a thick rocky head. Silky malts, with a crisp snap of hops. It came in a thick half liter bottle, and had a tiny, tiny whiff of skunk, which interestingly made it taste better. Not a traditional Czech pils, but as good a beer as I’ve ever had for $1.29 a half liter.

This beer is light golden in color and there is little head. Some lacing is left in the glass. The smell is slightly hoppy and grainy. The taste is somewhat bitter, relativly smooth. The mouthfeel is creamy and the beer is tolerable. I wouldn't mind drinking a few of these on a hot afternoon.

Pours out pale gold and sits deep, bright gold in the glass with a large frothy white head. Fades to a nice skim, leaving a good load of lace up and down the glass.

Smells of ripe, fruity esters: apples, pears and plums. Firm, crisp malty aroma permeates giving of a nice crackery base. Mild grassy background.

Tastes crisp and malty, but not overly so, good crackery presence with some soft fruit flavors behind, Gala apples mainly. Sharp grassy flavors dig down on the tongue, leaving a fine oily residue behind, lasting well on into the finish. Well-bittered and totally refreshing.

Soft and delicate in the mouth, nice carbonation, highly refreshing feel. Light overall, but not lacking in body. Very smooth.

A fine pils. Easily consumed and gleefully too. A winner on all accounts, plus it's a gem in the glass.

Label says "Best before: see label." Huh? Medium head gave way to soap-like bubbles. Dull gold color, quite clear, some good hop aroma. Sweet caramel, with a good deal of corn, finish is bitter, dry and cleansing. The same league as Rebel, better than most mass-produced Eurolagers but not Budvar or Urquell. I like pilsners a lot, but they should always be very clean-tasting and this just tasted dirty to me.

A- Pours a gold color into my pilsner glass, with a couple finger, tight head that settles to a ring in a few minutes.

S- Grain fields, white corn, dry, beautiful beer. Smells like a pilsner should.

T- Slightly sweet malt up front, that fades to a caramel, and then corn and white bread and yeast. Very faint alcohol and hops in the finish that leaves the grain taste in your mouth.

M- Watery and thin, with medium carbonation and a smooth, long, perfect finish.

D- So wonderful. I could drink this all day and all night.

This was poured from the bottle into a pilsner flute. It has a clear golden color with a decent head that is well retained. Barley malt dominates the aroma with a faint trace of hops. The flavor is clean and, like the aroma, dominated by a strong barley malt presence. Hops are present but noted mostly on the finish. It's very clean. It has a medium body with moderate carbonation.

Overall this is a decent Czech pilsner. However, I usually prefer my pilsner(s) a little lighter though, especially on a hot day like today. It's a bit grainy also for other choices in the style.

Appearance: This beer poured a crystal clear, golden yellow with a nice bead. The white head rose up nicely to two fingers and settled down relatively slowly, becoming fluffy as it did so. A thin layer of bubbles remained for the entire drink. Nice, heavy lacing was left behind.

Smell: Spicy, somewhat herbal hops cut through the thick layer of green grasses, mown hay, and wildflowers. I'm not sure if they use Saaz in this or not. If they do, not much of that character came through on the nose. Overall, a very traditional smelling lager.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied and thin, with a crisp, sharp mouthfeel. Stong carbonation makes the beer a little rough, but no more than I would expect from the style.

Taste: Sweet grasses upfront were immediately cut down by a hops powered mower. The hops provided a nice bitterness, but contributed more to the beer in the floral character that they added. An obvious dose of vanilla floated over the top. The finish was hops (and yes, I've decided that Saaz is used, but its presence isn't overbearing) and menthol. Well into the aftertaste a full graininess developed that was really nice.

Sampled at BJ's Beer Appreciation Night.

Aroma is intensely malty with a dry grain and honey aroma with minimal flowery hop.

Honey continues into the flavor until it is surplanted by a roasted butter squash flavor.

Finish is also decidely malty with a lack of any hops which is surprising for a continential pilsner.

Strong initial hop aroma. Some malt in the background. Hop fades kinda quickly though leaving mostly Pils-type malt aroma.

Golden with a big white head. Lots of rising carbonation. Totally clear.

Taste is mostly malty with some pretty assertive grain character. Hop bitterness is high but almost no hop flavor. Lingering aftertaste is malty and cereal grain (wheaties?)

Creamy and light bodied. Carbonation level gives it a bite.

Above average light lager. Pleasant to drink but not really my thing.

The was the 5% version purchased from Corti Bros in Sacramento. Poured a clear gold with nice white head and good lacing. Nose of caramel malts and floral hops. Smooth and clean mouthfeel. Flavor of mals and some more hops, these a little grassy. Finish is mild and slightly bitter. Pretty decent beer.

Pours a clear straw color, about the standard for Czech lagers. A fluffly white head appears with quick dissipation. A bit of buttery notes come through as well as floral hops, but overall quite clean. Flavor, again is standard, and though unremarkable, good for a Czech pilsener: a balance of hops and crystal malts. A bit more body than Urquel, but certainly very comparable. This was a nice new choice recommended as an alternative to Urquel for this unseasonably hot day. Would be great with most summer fair off the grill or some pizza, as well as a thirst quencher on a hot day.

Deep yellow, nice carbonation, beautiful creamy head that lasts and lasts. Soft sweet malt aroma judisiously combined with noble hops. Saaz hops and grainy malts hit you first. It's rich, soft and creamy yet crisply refreshing. Maybe a tad less bitter than its better-known rivals. A microbrewed version of the "originals"? Try it if you find it.

16.9 oz. bottle. Amber colored with an off white head that sticks around. Has a earthy, leather, rope smell. Medium bodied, it has a super smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Lightly caramel sweet flavor with bakery fresh bread taste. A nicely crafted, well rounded lagar.

Poured into a pilsner glass. Nice foamy head and good golden hue. The aroma is of saaz hops and a slight biscuit, bread, malt mix. The taste has a little hops bite upfront followed by a sweet corny, bready, doughy flavor that is not overly apparent. The body is light and thin. Not a better example of Czech pilsner IMO. One thing I noticed is that the bottle that I purchased, which has a best before date of October 2006, the alcohol content was listed as 5.0%. Different from the listed ABV here, but the bottles look exactly the same.?

A very malty Czech pilsener, one that is lighter on the Saaz hops than most that I have tried. It pours a beautiful dark gold with a slim soapy head that laces well. The aroma is a very deep maltiness with only a slight hop nose. The flavor is not as clean as some Czech pilseners, very malty with only slight hop bitterness and perhaps a bit of diacetyl that gives it a bit of buttery taste. The mouthfeel is nice, but slightly slippery or soapy. Overall this is a good beer, but a bit too malty which cuts down on its drinkability.

Comes in a 12 oz green bottle with a monk enjoying a Klaster brew on the side of the label. Though I bought this in Prague, the label is in English.

Very hoppy and malty for a lager. There is a lot of spice here, much more so than the average Czech macro. Doesn't smell like much though, and though it pours a very pretty blond, head is only average. Nevertheless, this is a good example of a Czech microbrew lager.

PS I do miss the fact that despite buying this in Prague, it is the wimpy American 12 oz bottle, rather than the standard Czech .5 liter. What the fudge gives?

Klaster Premium

Served from a 1 PT .09 FL OZ bottle.

Poured somewhat dark amber. Fluffy white lace quickly faded. In my opinion, it has a taste similar to Leffe, a Belgium beer. It is very drinkable. Has slight carmel and then berry notes. The mouthfeel is pleasant and not overbearing by any means. Overall, a great beer. If your looking for other Czech beers, check out Golden Pheasant. A another great beer to accompany a hardy eastern European meal.

Klaster was found at Binny's in River Grove, IL

A - Pours a golden straw perfectly unclouded, with a fizzy white head that left a single sticky ring of lacing.

S - Crisp wheat and straw aromas, a bit of cirtus and mainly clean earthy character.

T - Clean wheat and light malt flavoring dominate the taste with a bit of herbal undertones.

M - Light and crisp with a refeshing clean finish.

D - Easy to drink and pleasant on a hot day.

I love a good Czech Pilsner and I would argue this is a pretty damn good one. Has a nice gold appearance with a large white head that dissipates quickly leaving a moderate amount of lacing. Has a good grainy, citrus smell. Has a very crisp malt and finishes with great hop flavors. Very drinkable, not expensive a good beer like most decent Czech Lagers. I would definitely say worth a try.

Pours a clear gold. The substantial head is impressively creamy. Rings of lace line the glass. I've rarely seen pilsners that look this good.
The aroma is bready and hoppy with just a hint of sweetness.
The taste has a nice, strong bitterness. It's got an unexpected fresh hop character that's balanced by just the right amount of bready malts.
Highly drinkable. A pilsner that doesn't require a hot summer day for it to be enjoyed.

This beer gives reason to constantly explore pilsners. I'll probably use this one as a benchmark for all others. Solid and highly recommended.

This was a clear light yellow beer with a frothy white head, with average lacing. It had a light aroma.

The taste was a short light lager. Light hop, light sweetness, and a thin body. It was a bit fizzy. This would be a good drinking beer for a ball game. More flavor than our domestic beers and a bit more alcohol.

Aroma: light hop aromas

Appearance: good foamy, white colored, long lasting head
Clarity is excellent: crystal clear.
Color is golden yellow.

Flavor: Lots of spicy/peppery Saaz hop flavor up front.
Something of a minerally character in the flavors.
Hop bitterness is moderately high, and lingers long
in the finish (IBU 40, maybe). Very clean lager like
Backed up with malt sweetness, but the hops dominate.

Mouthfeel & body: Carbonation percieved
as being fairly high, but Saaz hops also contribute
to the feeling. Also somewhat minerally water gives
it a dry, lending it a moderate-low mouthfeel and body.

Overall: Very tasty Czech Pilsner. I could drink gallons
of this stuff.
