Appearance - The beer is a pleasant golden color with a modest white head topping my snifter. Not much lacing is left along the sides of the glass.
Smell - Wow! The smells like some heavy booze. There is some breadiness to the smell, but not much more.
Taste - The booze jumps out in the initial taste. This is hot. Amidst the booze, I detect peaches, bread, sour malts, and something akin to butterscotch. I can't really detect the banana notes of a Belgian. The finish does not burn as badly as I suspected it might based on the initial. The aftertaste is like bourbon without the burn.
Mouthfeel - The mouthfeel matches the style, thick and coating the tongue in its booziness.
Overall - I am not sure I have had a barrel aged version of a tripel that I liked. My hopes were high for this one since it is aged in Pappy. Instead, I am a little disappointed.

Pours a crystal clear golden with a thin collar of white head. The aroma is immediately and onslaught of bourbon. Straight bourbon. Heavy boozy notes, tons of oak, and no detectable tripel characteristics. As the beer warms, some malts get coaxed out of the nose. Mild caramel and candi sugar is present. The taste presents a little more balance with a heavy presence of bourbon. The bourbon brings nice notes of vanilla and oak with minimal heat. The base beer isn't easily identifiable, but subtle notes of Belgian yeast and clove are there when they are searched for. Mouthfeel is well carbonated with a seemingly light body considering the high abv. A tastey beer for sure with heavy bourbon, I guess my main criticism is the lack of balance. For some that is a good thing. I like me a bourbon bomb, but I at least want to taste the base beer.

On tap at the 2014 Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Fest held at the Paso Robles Event Center in Paso Robles, CA.
Pours a clear orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, vanilla, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with vanilla, bourbon, and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with an especially nice bourbon barrel aged presence in the taste.

Screw-cap pint can. Pours an absolutely perfectly clear deep gold into a New Belgium pint globe with a thin, but enduring head. This is a visually gorgeous beer.
The aroma is a little raw bourbon plus a touch of Belgian funk. The raw wood smell is a little too strong, like with KY Bourbon Barrel Ale. You'd expect it to be sweet, and it's a bit much, but the flavors blend well. Mouthfeel is a little thick, but nicely offset by a generous carbonation. Overall, really well-done.
