Notes/Commercial Description:
This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

The Indiana Replicale is an ongoing project by the Brewers of Indiana Guild.

Every brewery in the state is invited to participate and brew a singular recipe, thus allowing each brewery to showcase their own unique style and character. This particular Replicale is a recreation from Ackerman's Brewery.

Ackerman's operated from 1933 to 1935 in New Albany. The Imperial Double Stout was brewed only once each year, at Easter, as an early springtime treat for the brewery's loyal customers.

Had this one in a growler that was picked up by a Mr. Luke a.k.a. Lukafer. Lets get down to the review.

A- Pours out a darker brown almost black color. Two finger mocha colored head shows great retention. Thick sheety lace on the sides of the glass when I drink this one down.

S- The aroma is a little muted but from what I get I like it. Roasted malts in the front of the beer gives off a nice toasted feel. Chocolate hints come off next which comes into a coffee aroma. No real hop presence in the beer itself which is a little sad. Oh well can't have it all.

T- Roasted malts right off the get go in this beer. I personally like the flavor of the roasted malts as they are bold and burst in the offering. Light chocolate hints toward the middle which come out in a semi-sweet flavor. The coffee flavor does come in the backing with a hint of light bittering hops. As the beer was drank the flavor seemed to get less and less by the end of the sip. Interesting...

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is good for the style. Roasted malts and coffee are left on the palate. Light bitter hops, warming alcohol, and chocoalte/coffee malts are left in the aftertaste. Flavors were light but well blended. No off flavors were present. Medium alcohol drying on the palate.

D- I really enjoyed this stout. One of my favorites from the ReplicAles this year. Sun King once again proves they know what they are doing when it comes to brewing. A smooth drinker for such a higher ABV. Good job on creating a dangerous beer Sun King!

This one poured a medium bodied dark brown in color with a one finger medium khaki head. The aromas were pretty subdued. It had light chocolate, light coffee, and light roasted notes. The flavors weren't quite what I expected either. I felt they were held back as well. It had light chocolate, perhaps some toffee, light roast, and light coffee. It drank decently but wasn't as crisp or as smooth as desired. Overall I just expected something more. This drank closer to an oatmeal stout than an imperial stout. It was a little disappointing.

poured from the cask at macniven's during ACBW to a 6oz english mini pint near pitch black with a thin mocha head with nice retention and lace to the rim.

big coffee aroma with caramel and chocolate in the wayback.

nice coffee and chocolate blend. sweet creamy espresso with only a hint of bitter.

medium bodied for the style, medium carbonation, sweet enough.

drinkable - yep.

overall - better on cask !

Pours extremely dark brown/black with two fingers dark tan head.  Smells roasty, some chocolate and coffee.  Tastes like the smell, roasted malt, some coffee,  chocolate, some sweet malt, very delicious.  Mouthfeel is medium and drinkability is very high.
