Sun King’s take on a dry Irish stout is textbook mediocrity. I’ll take it all day over a Miller light, and would happily get drunk on it on someone else’s dime, but would never choose it if other craft options are available.

Day 18 of the advent calendar 2021

Deep black, tan head. Loads of malt on the nose.
Excellent flavour. This one goes down quickly and easily.
Great dry finish and mouthfeel.

Drinking this at home from a can poured into a pint glass.
Appears dark brown, almost black, with a tan head that dropped quickly.
Smells, chocolatey, malty.
Taste follows the nose.
Mouth feel is medium thin for the style.
Overall, I might order again.

12oz can marked 04/25/19 (no indication of born on or best before?) poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on can. The beer pours nearly black with only a hint of brown highlights and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves no lacing. The aroma is roasted malt first with some dark chocolate as well. The taste is debittered dark malt and slight tang. Very minor bitterness on the mostly dry finish. Mouthfeel is thin bodied with less than medium carbonation. Overall, ok. This is a dark colored ale more than a dry stout.

12oz can, date stamped 31JAN18. Near black pour with a light brown head that fizzles out rather quickly. Earthy chocolate and roast with a hint of coffee for aroma. Nice meld of flavors with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, roasted barley, and earthy hops. Medium body, ample carbonation, finishing smooth, balanced, and dry. Nice Irish Stout.

From a can into a tulip glass. (I've also had this on tap from the 96th street tap room)

Pour is opaque and very dark. Two fingers of thick khaki foam form of top of the beer. foam lingered throughout leaving nice lace on the glass.

Smell is roasted nuts with chocolate and maybe some caramel.

Taste follows the smell well. Lots of roasted malt flavors to go with the coffee, bitter dark chocolate, and toffee. Not as dry as I initially thought this was going to be. Maybe even a hit of smoke and vanilla. Good complexity.

Feel is light to medium. Beer is very smooth with just the right amount of carbonation. Does dry a bit but not as much as others in the same style I've tried.
