Pours dark gold. Thick, short, off white head that fades slowly with a lasting ring. Light lacing.
Smells grapefruit, orange, pine, bready malt, caramel malt and floral.
Tastes citrus peel, grapefruit, caramel malt and light toasted malt. Followed by pine and earthy bitter. Finish is dry with a pine linger. Medium body and smooth medium carbonation.

My bro-in-law shared this with me during a recent visit to Holt. It poured a hazy orangish with white head that is leaving a lace. The scent had some bitter citrus. The taste is sweet malt base with bitter grapefruit finish. The mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's solid.

Poured into a pilsner a dark golden with a white thin head. Nice hops flavor but a little thin. A solid IPA butt lacking the depth to elevate it to the next level

Pulled from the crypt, Sun King pulls Fistful of Hops emerges from retirement for a deeply malty taste that after all this time still cowers to hops.
Rich amber upon the pour, the beer shows impressive ecru persistence and lace. Grapefruit and orange blaze the trail while the scent of toasty, nutty malt attempt to round the hops. To taste, its the malts that win the early palate with their toffee, bready, toasty, crusty sweetness.
The middle brings a shift. The caramel malts and starchy substrate begins to lift and the hops take hold with their stern citrus of grapefruit and orange along with a finish of deeply resinous bittering power of pine and grass.
Medium-bodied for IPA, the beer's toasted taste persists in an amber ale-like fashion even though the hops take firm command. Trailing bitterness is laced with a long linger of stem, grass and leaf as those resins grip the throat and are slow to relax.

Has a good hop balance. I like the amount of bitterness in this beer. It's dialed in just right. I'm working on the winter batch in the blue pint cans right now. Not sure why it's listed as retired. I have always found it in the rotation...however, I ALWAYS get it at one of their two local tap rooms. I'm OCD about getting all of my local (and only local) favs straight from the source. It's one of my go-to choices.
