Had this on tap with lunch. Didn't pick up much on the aroma. Real malty punch at first, roastiness flavor with mild bitterness. You definitely pick up the harsher acrid or bitter notes on the lingering aftertaste. Beautiful color, decent head and average carbonation. Definitely lacked the WOW factor but warranted a 2nd pint.

22oz bottle served in pint glass. Beer is brown; head is massive. Pleasing spicy and malty aroma. Flavor is pretty good too. Texture is pretty creamy, especially at this cool but not cold temperature. Really well balanced and with a solid load of interesting malt flavors, this beer is highly sessionable.

Winter Warmer ...a really vague catch all style so I'll play the game a be lenient as well. This is a damn good beer. If you think of a "Winter Warmer" as strong, sweet, spiced or anything along those lines you will be disappointed. It is none of those things. But it is a damn good beer! Very close to a Dunkle..but it's an ale. It uses smoked malt but...(maybe my time in Bamberg is showing but..) it isn't smokey at all. Wish I had a keg of this right now. Malty, full flavored without being full bodied, medium ABV, really what I want to drink gallons of during the..Winter.

Well done once again Fremont!

Poured into a Fremont Brewing pint glass. Pours a dark mahogany brown with a fine, two finger light tan head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of sweet toasty and biscuit malt, brown sugar, faint cinnamon and smoke. Flavor of mild bready malt with hints of toasted malt, light smoke, nuts, light chocolate. Very nice medium creamy body, great mouth feel. A nice mellow brown ale style winter ale with distinct, but not intrusive smokiness. Slightly sweet and somewhat underwhelming at first, but nice balanced malty, nutty flavors develop, finishing malty and nicely smoky. I can easily picture sitting around a bonfire with a mellow brown ale while drinking this. I will add this to my seasonal rotation.

Bottled on 02.17.13.
Poured from a bomber into a tumbler on 01.30.14.

A: See through black with some red. No head.

S: Caramel, dark berry, sweet breadiness.

T: Brown sugar, molasses, maple syrup, some roastiness.

M: Smooth.

O: Malty sweetness comes first, then comes roastiness. It was good, but I'm not sure now how well it held up for being such an old beer without a high ABV. The place that I was buying bottles from likes to inadvertently age their beer. I'm going to re-review this when the sun goes down at 3:30pm up here in the PNW.

Bottle opened on 11.14.13

A - Pours a clear medium-dirty brown with a light tan head that fades fairly fast.

S - Smokey, malty, and bready.

T - Sweeter smoke, toasted malty bread.

D - Good carbonation with a light body.

O - Smokey winter ale, but lighter and sessionable.

The beer comes in a toasted dark woodsy brown.

The aroma has toasty malt, whole wheat bread, sweet caramel. A nuttiness, some brown ale notes.

The flavor has sweet toffee, a peanut or generic nuttiness. Tons of toasted bread. A bit of rye spice.

This is a beer has this wonderful brown ale flavor with some winter ale notes. Delicious stuff.

22oz into a tulip. Pours a clear amber brown w/ a loose sudsy head.

Aroma is smoky and roasty, smells a little bit like day-old coffee grounds. Some sweet malt in the background.

Taste is likewise both sweet and smoky. Some toffee and caramel.

Mouthfeel is light, a little thin. Doesn't quite align with the stronger, bolder flavors. Good carbonation, clean finish.

Overall, a more sessionable winter warmer than Abominable, but it lacks the strong, rich, complex quality and body I look for in the style.
