Smoke and leather. This beer stands on it's own for style, but is just okay.

If I were trying this blind, I would not peg it as a winter warmer. I suspect I would slot it as something in between a nut brown and a mild-mannered rauchbier. In any case, the pour is lovely, with a solid finger of head that lingers but doesn't produce much lacing in the long term. Smells of a brown ale that's perhaps been very lightly spiced, and the palate brings in some meaty, smoked tones to build on top of the malty grain bill and winter spices.

Pours with bubbles but they don't over balance the taste at all
Cans taste great. It isn't as sweet as something like a Newcastle. Like other Fremont brews, it is easy to drink these aggressively but is a bad idea since the flavors will linger. A little sweet. The alcohol is certainly there but not mind crushing.

Unpleasant lingering bitterness with vegetal notes spoils what might otherwise be nice brown ale.

A verk dark, like rich farmland. Thick, forthy head woth good retention. The aroma has yeast, malt and dark rye bread notes. For a brown ale, thw taste is very clean, dry and light. It stays well clear of the stout and porter territory, which is fine by us. We are fans of brown ales, a style that is not so popular and we appreciate Fremont's efforts.

Dark barley and gentle hops. Winter ale, mahogany color. Rye, smoked, and chocolate malts. Very smooth. Light head w good lacing. Not much bite but I appreciate that it's not too bitter.

22 Oz bottle. No bottling info
Pours a cola/brown/red body with an off white head. Good retention and lacing
Smell is fairly prominent.. I'm getting fresh cut grass-hay, along with a little nuttiness
Taste found a little hops, but the grassy hay "wheat beer" taste dominated, and was most noticeable in the aftertaste.
Medium feel
Value (does not effect overall score) At $4.49 this 22 ounce beer was decent value for a (new for me) winter warmer.
I love winter warmers. It's one of my favorite beer styles. But I have never liked winter warmers brewed with wheat and that will remain consistent in this case. A one and done for me...

No question that Bonfire is a beautiful brown ale. It is indeed dark, and clean, brown. Hints of mahogany flicker in light, and an espresso colored and looking foamy head rest on top of the liquid below.
At first, a bold roasty presence dominates the scent. A heaping helping of brown sugar follows in behind and paired by with a mild metallic aroma.
Though there is a moderate roasty flavor going on, the sweet brown sugar takes center stage. A hint of nuttiness ties it all together, along with a spicy hop bite.
It feels pretty spot on for an American Brown Ale. Balanced, slightly flavoring sweet, but the bitterness is noticeable. It's mild to medium carbonation aids in it's relatively dry finish.
This is a pretty good brown ale in a world where the style doesn't seem to get much attention anymore. I'd prefer it to be a touch more roasty, especially consider the name. Smoked malt could do wonders! Cheers!
